Publisher's Summary

The Darkling City has fallen, but its final Stronghold remains.

With the Reality Editor in hand, Jack thought the assault on Skalahólt would be a short, victorious war. But his army has been stopped cold - and worse, someone close to him has been taken by the Overmind of Death. Every second counts if Jack wants her back alive, but to even have a chance, he’ll have to leave his troops behind, and dive into Thanatos’s twisted game-within-a-game.

Stranded behind enemy lines with only one shot at victory, Jack is faced with seemingly impossible challenges that will require him to think outside himself, to change, and even to lose. But as the puzzles take a new turn, and the other Overminds finally reveal their hands, it soon becomes clear that more than just this battle, or even the war, is at stake. Eldgard’s future is being written in Jack’s every action and word, and the Travelers may not have a place in it....

From James A. Hunter, the best-selling author of Rogue Dungeon, Bibliomancer (Completionist Chronicles Expanded Universe), and Shadowcroft Academy for Dungeons, comes the final installment in the best-selling LitRPG series, Epic Viridian Gate Online! Jack's adventures in a cutthroat, virtual reality, fantasy world will grip fans of Ready Player One and The Stormlight Archive alike. Can’t do it

I was really looking forward to this last book in the series as the rest of the series has been pretty good, but this book fell way short for me. The pace is just sooo slow that I had a hard time paying attention, and that’s even after I turned the play speed up to 1.3 times.

I’ve listen to over half the book and I can’t make myself finish. The author tries to go too deep and introspective all the darn time and it seriously hampers the action/gameplay. Even when you finally get to action scenes, they just fall flat.

At the end of the last book, when Abby died, I was super invested in the story (spoiler alert) and knowing she comes back is the only ending that I needed in order to finish this series.

Epic Culmination

The grand finale of VGO certainly does not disappoint! It does a terrific job of reminding us what an incredible journey it's been and just how far they've all come, compared to where they all started. One of my favorite things about James Hunter is how consistent he is with his characters abilities and growing them and actually using them. It all builds to an unbelievable crescendo to this finale act as the stakes are raised even higher and the group is tested in ways they didn't even know was possible, seriously! All of it resulting in the epic culmination of an amazing series of world and character building, that I for one am sad to see end. However I am extremely satisfied with this perfectly imperfect conclusion. And a big thanks to anyone involved in its existence!! Thank you

great

This was a great story and I'm hoping it won't be the final book. The author left it open enough to allow for more in the series but it also seemed like it might be the end. Either way. worth the listen too

Enjoyable Conclusion to Good Series

The details and descriptions paint pictures that make the world both virtual and real come alive. The description on a wooden patio extending from a house on a sunny day with children playing and friends gathered together over clattering plates and syrup drenched breakfast transport the listener. The humor and jibes of Cutter and Amara... the relationships that are tenuous then tolerable and then friendly feel natural and almost like a slice of life... which is odd and wonderful as this is a story about people living in a virtual world. Well done. Strong finish.

A brilliant ending

After what feels like an eternity Hunter and Taylor have completed the final audio in the main series and with quite a few surprising turns it's as good as you can wish. Hopefully this means we will see the return of certain characters later on in the future.
With Jack being my fav character it's hard to say just how well they did with the antagonist Empire that turns us around after so many books being a main villian.
Suffice to say that this really feels like even from book 1 this was always how it was meant to be and not a hastily turned out finale. Spoilers after doing this see how many hints were placed across the other VGO series and earlier stories of this one.
