Story
The Lambert Family is heading to Crescent Lake, a rural cabin community in Western Pennsylvania, for an idyllic weekend getaway. Some fishing, some barbecue, some games... The Fannelli brothers are heading to Crescent Lake, too. Some stalking, some kidnapping, some murder, definitely some games...though not necessarily the type of games the Lamberts had in mind. But it doesn't matter. The Lamberts are going to play whether they like it or not.

Definitely not bedtime stories
This Audiobook was provided by the narrator at no cost in exchange for an unbiased review.
Let's start of with the bland.
Warped consists of several short stories (some VERY short) and as always in such cases some are hits (for instance Sugar Daddy) and some are misses.
I am rating this book for an overall of 5 stars.
Is this one of the best book I ever read (listened)? Not really, but this book managed to evoke an emotional response from me, something that caught me off guard completely, so kudos are required.
This audiobook also managed to creep me out, blame the narrator for that.
So what is all this about? The stories, as the book title suggests, are warped. Some of them play homage to classic horror stories, some are gruesome (actually, most are) and many of them are quite demented and disturbing. Jeff Menapace mostly manages to stay away from the horror tropes making my guesswork completely off most of the time, and adding to the suspension.
And what about the narration?
Jeff Hays is either one of the best narrators around, or is a wizard with Audio software (the alternative is that he has a really scary split personality). The first time a woman was voiced I had to go double check if he indeed is the sole narrator (he is!!?). In a way, this was both awesome and distracting at first (how in the world is he doing that voice?), and the end result was just upping the creepiness factor - which in this case serves the book quite well.
Other audio enhancements (like drinking sounds, dual voices etc.) further improved the dramatization of the book making it a joy to listen to.
To summarize, if you're going to read this book, you should listen to it. The performance here adds so much to the book it would be a shame to miss out on it and while some stories are not as good as others - the entire experience is one of the better ones I had the privilege of listening to.

Varied Assortment of Horror and Suspense Tales
There is a bit of everything in these short stories, Some are old fashioned paranormal or occult monster tales and others are great psychological thrillers that could possible happen.
I've always thought that scary stories like psychological thrillers that could actually happen are far scarier than the paranormal, and monster stories. Some of the tales are longer and more like a novella and others are only a few minutes long. Most all of the stories are very good. In some the bad guys meet their just desserts in others the bad guys prevail.
If you like this genre this is a great assortment. The narration was also well done.

It helps if you're a bit warped too!
When I read stories where the endings are left 'up in the air', for our own interpretation, I feel quite frustrated! This set of 11 stories have quite a few endings like that, but frustration aside I did enjoy each one. A scarecrow with more than straw inside has a beautiful bond with an abused boy, a game of poker where the winner really does take all, finding the best candidate for a very special job, and lots more. Some were short, some better than others, but when each one had finished I had to press the pause button so I could think about it. To me, that is the sign of a good story,
