Publisher's Summary

The second audiobook in the Sands of Arawiya duology by the masterful Hafsah Faizal - the follow-up to the smash New York Times best-selling novel We Hunt the Flame.

Darkness surged in his veins. Power bled from her bones.

The battle on Sharr is over. The Arz has fallen. Altair may be captive, but Zafira, Nasir, and Kifah are bound for Sultan’s Keep, determined to finish the plan Altair set in motion: restoring the hearts of the Sisters of Old to the minarets of each caliphate, finally bringing magic to all of Arawiya. But they are low on resources and allies alike, and the kingdom teems with fear of the Lion of the Night’s return.

As the zumra plots to overthrow Arawiya’s darkest threat, Nasir fights to command the magic in his blood. He must learn to hone his power, to wield it against not only the Lion but his father as well, trapped under the Lion’s control. Zafira battles a very different darkness festering in her through her bond with the Jawarat - it hums with voices, pushing her to the brink of sanity and to the edge of a chaos she dares not unleash. In spite of everything, Zafira and Nasir find themselves falling into a love they can’t stand to lose.... But time is running out, and if order is to be restored, drastic sacrifices will have to be made.

Lush and striking, hopeful and devastating, We Free the Stars is the masterful conclusion to the Sands of Arawiya duology by New York Times best-selling author Hafsah Faizal.

About the narration..

I couldn't review the first book here since I bought it from another site, but now I have the opportunity, let me get something straight
so, in recording books companies logic
1) If the writer is of Asian descend the company searches high and low for an Asian narrator to narrate the book
2) If the writer is of color the company will make sure the narrator is of color too so they don't "white wash" it
BUT, here we have a writer of Arabic descend and the company get ... BRITISH NARRATORS !!!
can somebody please tell me what kind of logic is this ? or is it for some cultures but not others? can you honestly tell me that a big recording company couldn't find a single narrator of Arabic descend to at least pronounce the Arabic words as they should ?
- don't get me wrong the narrators did great given the situation -
but really ??
As a person of Arabic descend I felt offended by this move .. the book was written beautifully and she blended the Arabic culture in the story so well, but I was annoyed because the Arabic words are not sounding the same as if an Arabic person said it ..
Now with that out of the way, as for the book
I am still confused on how to rate this book, on one hand it was beautifully written and the characters developed really well, but on the other hand .. IT WAS TOO LONG for this story
In this book, we follow the aftermath after Zafira found the Juwarat and binded herself to it .. and Altaer is a prisoner at the Lion's keep, and they must restore the hearts of the witches to their rightful place to bring back magic to Arawiya, and in the meanhile Nassir is trying to get hold of the magic in his blood and get out of his father's clutch and Zafira is trying to keep herself sane with the constant nagging of the book inside her
there was a lot to experience with this book and I would say Nassir's transformation was the most amazing of it all .. but the book should've been shorter because in the middle it really dragged .. also, I wanted more of Yassemine, if there is a spin off about her arc I will be very happy to read it :D .. all and all I'm glad I read the series and I will keep the author on my to read authors

Amazing!

Loved this book: it’s characters, narrative, mythology, and message. I’ll happily read whatever Hafsah writes in the future. Also, Hafsah, thank you so much for not killing off my favorite character. I won’t say more because of spoilers. :)

wish there were more. even better than the first.

i loved the narrators so much. some folks said they mispronounced the arabic, which is unfortunate, but they did a good job nonetheless, zafira's narrator, especially has such a calming and emotive voice.

the story slows down very nicely, giving plenty of time to enjoy the characterization and relationships. some may not like that, but i love when an author allows the characters to just be together. i enjoyed the first book, but i loved this one even more.

i'll miss the characters and story terribly! i'm sorry the book ended . . .

Stick through the slow start

The story started off slowly. It had been awhile since I had read the previous book, and I wondered why I had liked it. I had thought about not finishing the book. Before long, though, the book became much better, and I really enjoyed it. After the slow beginning, the books was great, held my attention, and kept me wanting to hear the next chapter. I do recommend it.

Great Sequel

A really good sequel to the first book. At first I wasn't sure about the romance, but I came to like it in this book. The characters a fleshed out more in this one, and I like seeing how their relationships grow.
The voice actors do well, but I would've liked ones that could speak the language. Sometimes it's hard to tell which character is speaking because the voice either doesn't change enough or because the actor uses the same voice for multiple characters. Overall they do well.

Lovely story

I truly love this series. It's so well written. Twists, intrigue, romance, quests; it has something for everyone. My two biggest challenges were:
1. It does drag on at some points.
2. I love tension but holy crow, it had me exasperated as far as the main characters were concerned.

Otherwise, a truly enjoyable read.

YA as expected

could have done with some editing but it fits the genre without too many surprises
