Publisher's Summary

In July 2015, Mary Yoder returned home from the chiropractic center that she operated with her husband, Bill, complaining that she felt unwell. Mary, health-conscious and vibrant, was suddenly vomiting, sweating, and weak. Doctors in the ER and ICU were baffled as to the cause of her rapidly progressing illness. Her loved ones - including Bill and their children, Adam, Tamryn, and Liana - gathered in shock to say good-bye.

In the weeks that followed Mary's death, the grief-stricken family received startling news from the medical examiner: Mary had been deliberately poisoned with colchicine. Another bombshell followed when the local sheriff's office received a claim that Adam Yoder had poisoned his mother. But Adam was not the only person of interest in the case.

Pretty and popular Kaitlyn Conley, Adam's ex-girlfriend, worked at the Yoders' clinic. She'd even been at Mary's bedside during those last terrible hours. Still, some spoke of her talent for manipulation and a history of bizarre, rage-fueled behavior against anyone who dared to reject her. Had Kaitlyn and Adam conspired to kill Mary Yoder, or was the killer someone else entirely?

Contains mature themes.

sad

Mr. Phelps says it all in his closing statements. I listen to a lot of true crime books because they are way better than most fiction! But this one really pulls on my heart strings. plus make me so mad. It is obvious how good of person Mary was. The world is worse off without her in it. The deplorable way she wad murdered astounds me that the imp didn't get the death penalty! or at LEAST Life without the possibility of perole!! She should ROT in jail!! SHAME ON MARY'S SISTERS!!! In the overwhelming evidence of the imps guilt they STILL turn a blines eye!? were they that jealous of Mary?? I feel so sorry for Adam, I pray he is able to find peace in his heart someday. I hope he finds love in a good person and happiness.

Way too repetitive

A droning performance and constant repetition by the author makes a two hour story almost 10 hours long.

Good true crime but narrator could be better

I really enjoyed the story. The narration w as hard at times to listen to. He had such a raspy voice that it made me feel at times I was struggling to catch my breath. It kept distracting me because it sounded so painful when he spoke. I just kept listening because I did enjoy the story

Goes back and forth a lot

I did enjoy this story, but the writer goes around and around a lot. There is a lot of repeating the same thing. I love Danny Campbell narration.

Easy to Follow !

1st Audio for me. Good choice ! Easy to follow. M. Phelps always tells a great story. Unbelievable denial so evident in the supporters. I was left feeling such sadness for Adam.

Interesting view of reality....Thank you

first, thank-you, thank-you and thank-you!!! Living next door to a narcissistic sociopath for 20 years and living... luckily....each time i hear am blessed to read a published story, i am comforted because all too often the non-believers are officials . They become convinced that the truth the victim reveals....targeted person, i prefer... can not be true so the target becomes the focus and the sociopath is empowered again....ours has been inflated by the officials and puppets she has brainwashed in disgusting displays of manipulation. We have had a rare opportunity to watch the show up close and personal for 20 years and i have an advanced understanding of psychology....it truly is unbeluevable, their minds....disgusting. I appreciate your well rounded analysis and it is a story i wont soon forget. Thank God there are growing numbers of people who understand your clear and concise explanation of 6 to 8% of the population....great book and education!

Tough listen

Hard to sit through not because of story content but because of the awful narrator ... sounded like a shopping channel salesman selling a vegetable slicer !

Terrifying

Do we really know anyone? This story is a sad reminder that kind people very often get hurt or die at the hands of those who will use that kindness to manipulate and mold people untill they are walking themselves into a toxic situation. Mary's only fault around Katie was trusting her, believing her and giving her more control than she should have had around accounts etc in her business and when Mary extended that trust, love and kindness with Katie into Mary's family she paid with her life. Adam seemed to have inherited his mother's kind nature and the co dependent relationship with Katie was so very toxic. My heart broke for the family losing their beautiful mother, broke for Adam who will forever live with.. what if I did things differently. Giving this book 4 stars because found the narration difficult to listen too. Story will leave you looking at people in your life and wondering if you really know them. Hope Marys family could find some peace with time and healing 💕

Interesting true crime

I enjoyed this book and the authors ability to present so much evidence in an easily understandable way. Some reviewers have criticised the narrator bu I found him okay and didn’t feel he detracted from the story in any way

Unexpected

The story is quite good, but I found it difficult to listen to as the voice of the narrator sound strained. For this reason I can’t recommend it to any one.

repetitive

It could have been a good story but I didn't like the narrator and it seemed like the story was being repeated over and over. Unnecessarily long.

Very well structured

It was a complex story involving many people and incidences over a number of years. Yet the way it was written made it all really clear and easy to follow. It kept my attention the whole time. Worth a read.
