Story
In a near-deserted coastal village, odd things are happening. Strangers are asking questions about the town's recluse. A local hunter discovers naked footprints in the snow. The stray dog population has ceased to exist. And with winter's most powerful weapon bearing down, things are about to become much, much worse. A werewolf book. Not a romance. Not at all.

Story
In a steel-and-lead-encased bunker 20 feet below the basement level of his house, a soldier waits for his final orders. On the surface, a plague ravages the planet, infecting over 90% of the populace. The bacterium burrows through the brain, destroying all signs of humanity and leaving behind little more than base, prehistoric instincts. The infected turn into hyper-aggressive predators, with an insatiable desire to kill and feed. Someday soon, the soldier will have to open the hatch to his bunker, and step out into this new wasteland, to complete his mission....

Story
More than two centuries after World War III poisoned the planet, the final bastion of humanity lives on massive airships circling the globe in search of a habitable area to call home. Aging and outdated, most of the ships plummeted back to Earth long ago. The only thing keeping the two surviving lifeboats in the sky are Hell Divers - men and women who risk their lives by skydiving to the surface to scavenge for parts the ships desperately need.

My name is Kazimir Wolfe. People call me "Kaz", except they don’t. I never use my real name; it’s too dangerous, for me and for anyone I meet. I’m on the run from the law, who think I killed my aunt, and from whoever did kill her, because they want to finish the job. So, I move around a lot, working construction or whatever job I can find. It’s a lonely life. I don’t let anyone get close...people who get close to me end up dead. Why? I’m a wizard. The world’s only wizard, as far as I know.

Story
We were fighting on the wrong side of a war we couldn't win. And that was the good news. The Ruhar hit us on Columbus Day. There we were, innocently drifting along the cosmos on our little blue marble, like the native Americans in 1492. Over the horizon come ships of a technologically advanced, aggressive culture, and BAM! There go the good old days, when humans only got killed by each other. So, Columbus Day. It fits. When the morning sky twinkled again, this time with Kristang starships jumping in to hammer the Ruhar, we thought we were saved.

Story
For dinosaurs, it was a big rock. For humans: Coronal Mass Ejection (CME). When the Earth is hit by the greatest CME in recorded history (several times larger than the Carrington Event of 1859), the combined societies of the planet's most developed nations struggle to adapt to a life thrust back into the Dark Ages. In the United States, the military scrambles to speed the nation's recovery on multiple fronts including putting down riots, establishing relief camps, delivering medical aid, and bringing communication and travel back on line. Just as a real foothold is established in retaking the skies (utilizing existing commercial aircraft supplemented by military resources and ground control systems), a mysterious virus takes hold of the population, spreading globally over the very flight routes that the survivors fought so hard to rebuild.

Story
From the Audie-nominated narrator of The Martian. In eleven years' time, a million members of an alien race will arrive at Earth. Years before they enter orbit, their approach will be announced by the flare of a thousand flames in the sky, their ships' huge engines burning hard to slow them from the vast speeds needed to cross interstellar space. These foreboding lights will shine in our night sky like new stars, getting ever brighter until they outshine even the sun, casting ominous shadows and banishing the night until they suddenly blink out.

It was just a random mutation - one of a billion that happen in viruses every day. But this one was different. It exploded out of Somalia and spread across the oceans before anybody thought to look up from their cell phones to see what was going on. The infected breathed the virus into the air around them, spreading it through the cities faster than anyone thought possible. Hospitals were overwhelmed. Police lines crumbled. Quarantine sites disintegrated. Cities started to collapse.

Publisher's Summary
War pigs. Road savages. And the crumbling asphalt of the open highway.
After nearly four years, the zombie epidemic has almost burnt itself out. Gus' new life on a communal farm is peaceful. The daily routine of policing the fields is rarely disrupted by straying undead. His drinking binges are over. Long days have thrown time over the memories of Annapolis. But this will all change.
When Gus is asked to search for a group of missing scavengers, he reluctantly agrees. What he finds is a new predator unleashed upon the land, one determined to harvest every last mortal life.... And feed it to a ravenous machine.

Didn't think it could get any better!!
Not even finished reading Well Fed and I am ready to rave about it. Gus is back and kicking butt as usual (yeah!) but the other characters from zombies, bad guys, and women that kick butt...Let me just say the author out did himself. I didn't know things could get any worse at the end of the world but they can! From humor, horror, and tears, everything I look for in a story Keith Blackmore gave it and more. The narrator handles every character's voice very well whether male or female (how does he do that?) This series is at the top of my list with The Remaining, and the Joe Ledger series. I went though a lot of bad reads before I finally discovered this one. Let me just say it was more than worth it.

absolute MASTERPIECE of audio excellence! !
This story is an excellent, believable and extremely well written and narrated finish to the Mountain Man Series. I was dissapointed with the rats in an earlier story line, no dissapointment in book four, NONE at all. Very creative and believable cast of characters, each easily identified via OUTSTANDING narration.

Best book of series
Excellent way to finish a series. Rc Bray does a terrific job narrating this very well written book. This is much more than just a zombie book. There's like 3 stories that all blend together throughout the story and Keith Blackmore wrote it all flawlessly. I didn't hear a dull minute. BRAVO!!!

Stupendous
I don't recall the last time I gave 5 stars for everything and if I could give more for this book, I would. 16 hours of incredible, can't-put-down, gripping and brutal story telling.
There was nothing predictable in this book. Many times I thought of a plot event that would be a very satisfying sense of justice and revenge, but nope, not too many things work out for Gus. You thought he took a beating in the other stories? This book is just gruesome.
I was a bit worried in the beginning because the zombies and rats were dying out and being hunted in a zombie filled house wasn't really what I was interested in reading about. But that was just the warm up.
This book is more about human raiders than zombies, which I usually don't like, but the story is just incredible, as is the narration, absolutely perfect.

Never have I loved Zombies so much
What did you love best about Well Fed?
I have to say I don't like Zombie novels. I only read the mountain man books because I happened to download The Hospital for free out of boredom waiting for my next credit to kick in on Audible. WOW.....after that I had to read\listen to mountain man book one, I was addicted! How can such a simple concept keep me so entertained. I felt I was with Gus during his adventures, and I was terrified! When the next two books were released to audible I nearly jumped for joy. When the fourth book was released I felt like it was Christmas and I was four years old getting that one gift I truly wanted. Thank you Brad for becoming one of my absolute favorites and surprising me by making me fall in love with Zombies. Love every book of the mountain man series, just can't get enough. Wish you would write 100 of them! I love GUS!
Who was your favorite character and why?
Gus of course, he is so simple yet heroic. Gus reminds me of an every day Joe that somehow becomes a hero of sorts.
What about R.C. Bray’s performance did you like?
Great distinct voice of all the different characters, great reading. just love this guy, he is the voice of GUS!
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
YES!
Any additional comments?

Best of the Series!
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
You bet but you have to start from the beginning.
What did you like best about this story?
I like the way the undead progressed in this series. I also liked the addition of the " undead plague" that follows the zombies.
What does R.C. Bray bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
R.C. Bray one of my favorites. He is so good.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Loved Ollie, his thoughts on his situation and how he handled himself.
Any additional comments?
I will miss Gus. I wish there were more. Well Done!

He's Back!
I can thank Keith Blackmore’s “The Hospital” his first book in this series, for really get me hooked on the zombie genre. And hooked I have become! Dam you Mr Blackmore! But as what happens over time, your taste changes, or at the very least you sample a larger variety on offer and you discover that there is so much more on offer. This addiction has cost me hundreds of dollars. However, the first two in this series have always held a special place in my memory. I found the main character Gus to be so endearing.
Out of the legion of other zombie stories I have listened to since those early days. I have always liked a story in which the main character reminded me of Gus. The dry sense of humour, the matter of fact way in which he deals with situations.
I like it when the author does not try to make the zombie story as serious one. I like it when it is a bit tongue in cheek. Gus fits this role extremely well.
I was not a big fan of the last one in the series ‘Hellifax’ probably largely because Gus was largely absent from it.
I am so pleased to report Gus is back! But, there is something about him which is different! He and the Captian don’t talk much anymore (well to begin with). However the thing which took me most by surprise is at times Gus no longer is the drunken superman that I had pictured him to be from the earlier titles in the series. He is now a much more worn out old bloke who wet’s himself when he is scared by other alpha males. He has lost his mojo!
There is so much to tell about this story, but I won’t because it will spoil the surprise of it all. But what I will say is that this one has really gone up a level!
There seems to be a level of maturity about it. The way in which the characters and storyline comes together over the previous book is huge improvement. This one was so good I wished the story wouldn’t come to a close. New developments in this one took me by complete surprise. Even though Gus may have lost his mojo, he is still the same old Gus!
The narration of Bray was once again excellent. He really is an excellent narrator for this type of story. The speed was a little slow and was best sped up a tad. So the story itself was shortened a little bit as a result. Might be important if you are watching your credit to hour value like me.
I don’t think anyone would purchase this title in the series without listening to the earlier books. So there is not much point in me saying ‘buy this one’. But if you are reading this review and you think you would like to give this series a go. My advice would be grab the free short story ‘The Hospital’ to test the waters. If like me you didn’t like the previous one in the series and you were a little wary about purchasing this one. Well don’t stress, this one is good, very good.

Would you listen to Well Fed again? Why?
I already have, twice. It never seems to get old
What was one of the most memorable moments of Well Fed?
Oh come on, why would I spoil it for those who have not read it?
Which scene did you most enjoy?
Lets just say, there's a dead-head which isnt all it appears.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Gus' humanity. He's the perfect anti-hero

Gustronomic Delight!
Hiking with the Mountain Man has been a real pleasure. Gus is a genuine character, drank too much, had his faults, could be petty and childish but somehow retained his own brand of nobility throughout. Well Fed turned out to be my favourite of the series, it has some excellent zombie horror set pieces including a bizarre millionaire's mansion where the swimming pool is literally to die in and the "playpen". It also has possibly one of the best-written struggles against turning in the genre. There are plenty of "good" bad guys with the growling but rather surprising Shovel taking the starring role and there is plenty of zombie vs human and human on human action of varying types.
The series does get criticised for being repetitive and there is a case to be made for that. There’s a lot of fight zombies, get drunk, wake up with a hangover, rinse, repeat in the first couple of books and in the second when a new undead terror emerges it almost seems like the groups of characters take turns to have the same battle against them. That said, the four books each have very distinctive characteristics. The first introduces the two main protagonists in Gus and Scott as well as the evil Tenner. The second sees Gus alone doing his “Castaway” thing trying to survive alone and it gets pretty claustrophobic at times in that addled mind of his. The third and longest follows Scott’s story on his mission of revenge. It’s much more a standard post-apocalyptic zombie story with one or two human and added undead horrors thrown in. This concluding volume sees the zombies dying out but they aren't quite finished and there are a whole host of human nasties rising crawling out of the woodwork. They all do have one excellent similarity in having the zombie apocalypse maestro at the microphone in RC Bray bringing a sense of urgency and dread to our ears.
I wouldn't recommend taking this one stand alone. I'd suggest reading the freebie "The Hospital" first to get the tone and if you like it go to the omnibus edition of the first three books (saving two credits) before finally bringing it to an end with this one. Note that when I talk about tone there is an air of being laid back about some of the characters but this is genuine horror. Make no mistake on that point. The Hospital actually does cross one particular line that possibly other authors would have stayed on this side of. The book could still reasonably be taken alone but with most good series it will certainly work better with the back story.
I enjoyed my time with Gus and the other characters, even feeling the poignancy of his relationship with a whisky bottle label! One of the very best zombie series.

0ne of the very best series ever
Definitely one of the very best, thrilling, credible and exciting series ever! Awesome!! This isn't my usual genre of books so I was gob smacked by just how much I thoroughly enjoyed every possible aspect of the series: the writing, the characters, the plot(s), the narration, the apocalyptic world. What a pleasure!

Every Bit As Good As The Others
Would you consider the audio edition of Well Fed to be better than the print version?
Anything read by RC Bray is better than the printed version; the narrator brings the characters to life and tells the story in ways that spark the imagination and pull it in different directions from that which the written word alone could do.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Well Fed?
The most disappointing moment of the book was the end. Though the series could easily be concluded at this point I'm not quite ready to let go of the Mountain Man's story just yet.
Have you listened to any of R. C. Bray’s other performances? How does this one compare?
R.C. Bray does an outstanding job as usual. I've listened to him narrate several different titles and he is by far my favourite narrator.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The entire book keeps up a high tempo pace and is difficult to put down.
Any additional comments?
The first 3 books of the Mountain Man saga are terrific and this one is no different. A combination of great story telling, fantastic writing and exceptional narration make this a very enjoyable book. If you have read/listened to the other Mountain Man books then you really need to get this one. If you have no experience with the Mountain Man and his escapades .... get some!

Amazing my new best author and RC Bray OMG
I'm stuck between really wanting this to be a film coz it's just about perfect. And then I don't want it shorten or the language changed for movie production coz that would destroy a lot of the things that make this stand out.

Wonderfully written story
For one who doesn't even like horror or zombie fic, this reader hungrily read my way through the Mountain Man series books 1-4, after getting a taste of the free; The Hospital (read by RC Bray).
I was completely hooked, and simply *had* to know what happened next. I'm very sad this is the last we'll hear of Gus, but what a great adventure he took us on! 😃

Fantastic
What a great series, well written and action packed. This story felt like a true account of what would happen if there was an apocalypse.
This series kept me up many late nights as I did not want to end the story. Bray is an awesome narrator!
