Publisher's Summary

From number-one best-selling author Lisa Scottoline comes a pulse-pounding new novel.

Your family has been attacked, never again to be the same.

Now you have to choose between law…and justice.

Jason Bennett is a suburban dad who owns a court-reporting business, but one night, his life takes a horrific turn. He is driving his family home after his daughter’s field hockey game when a pickup truck begins tailgating them, on a dark stretch of road. Suddenly two men jump from the pickup and pull guns on Jason, demanding the car. A horrific flash of violence changes his life forever.

Later that awful night, Jason and his family receive a visit from the FBI. The agents tell them that the carjackers were members of a dangerous drug-trafficking organization - and now Jason and his family are in their crosshairs.

The agents advise the Bennetts to enter the witness protection program right away, and they have no choice but to agree. But WITSEC was designed to protect criminal informants, not law-abiding families. Taken from all they know, trapped in an unfamiliar life, the Bennetts begin to fall apart at the seams. Then Jason learns a shocking truth and realizes that he has to take matters into his own hands.

Sometimes justice is a one-man show.

Oh my gosh! You have outdone yourself! 💚🍀

Like the finest wines, you continue to quench our thirst for amazing stories and I feel this one equals or even excells Eternal! This soon to be number one on all the charts kept me up all night, so glad I pre-ordered the Audiobook.
Thank you and kudos to Eduardo Ballerini for his masterful interpretation of the cast.
No wonder you jump up and down when talking about this story.

meh

Does not live up to expectations total waste of a good credit. To little action, too many unnecessary details, just drones on and on between scenes. The one scene that had potential when Jason meets with the mob boss was totally anticlimactic.

very disappointed

I am usually a big fan of LS, but I feel like I just listened to a bad romance novel trying to be a mystery. The plot was outrageous and unbelievable. Zero character development. And none of the characters were even likeable.

Gut wrenching, fast paced thrill ride

The beginning almost physically hurt to read/hear. Just when I thought I had figured things out, they made sharp right curved in another direction. This is possibly the best of Lisa Scottoline’s books.

Favorite author

This book hooked me from the start. I do love how the author flows through the story revealing parts of the mystery along the way. I’ve read all her books and would like her to write another asap because I listened to this one in 2 days ❤️

Another stellar Scottoline masterpiece!

Thanks again, Lisa! You are an amazing author. I thought I had it figured out but the smart blonde gave us more genius and unexpected twists and turns throughout. As usual. Bravo!

Excellent.

After a long list of mediocre and downright awful books this was a relief. It’s not the easiest to follow ( for me anyway) but if you pay close attention it all comes together and is quite a page turner. There are twists throughout, surprises and the writing kept me interested, which is saying something as this is not my usual kind of book.
I really enjoyed it. Lots of action, family drama, good character development all around an excellent read.

Far fetched

The premise is a bit far fetched to say the least. I couldn’t wait until this was over.
