Story
My best friend warned me that it was too soon to marry Edward, a widower with an adorable but troubled little boy. She said we were moving too fast. But all I could see was a kind, loving man, struggling with grief, who needed my help. Yet as storm clouds gather above our small wedding ceremony, my hopes and dreams fall apart. None of my husband’s family turns up to support us. Instead of a honeymoon, we have a quiet night in. My wedding bouquet is placed on his first wife’s grave. And then my new stepson tells me he’s sure his mother is still alive.

Story
She bursts into my life like a storm, and nothing is the same again. One by one, I watch as my friends fall under her spell. Only I see that her smiles don’t reach her cold, furious eyes. And when I’m accused of things I didn’t do, when my home is vandalized, I know she’s behind it. But she only lets her mask slip when no one is looking, so if I say anything, I’ll look crazy. So when the baby shower comes around, I’m sitting on a velvet sofa in a posh hotel room, surrounded by balloons. But that afternoon, I finally learn the unbelievable truth. There is no baby....

Story
The white-washed Italian villa is perfect. I thought it might feel odd, living in a stranger’s house for the summer, but as my husband and children swim in the infinity pool, I start to relax. And then, in the back of a wardrobe, I find something that shatters everything.... Sparkling green eyes, square jaw, lopsided smile. A young man with his arm around a beautiful woman. The picture is old and faded, but I’d recognize him anywhere. The man is my husband.

From the outside, my marriage to Zach was perfect: a dream home, a perfect baby girl, and passionate, all-consuming love. But as I cradle my gorgeous baby, I have to accept that the husband who used to be my everything has changed. Samantha Frayn doesn’t know why Peter Bridges picks her - a nobody with bitten fingernails and a troubled childhood behind her - but she falls quickly. He’s older, charming, likes fine wine and French films, and his beautiful home has real art on its walls. Peter transforms Samantha’s life in an instant. He sees the better version of herself - the one she’s always wanted to be. It’s only normal that there’s a little friction, when she moves in, over domestic matters like where things are kept, or the proper times to eat, sleep, and shower.

Publisher's Summary
A gripping psychological thriller with a heart-pounding twist
She lied to her daughter to save her family.
Everyone knows Leona would do anything for her daughter Beth: she moved to Church Langdon to send Beth to the best school, worked hard to build a successful business to support them and found them the perfect little cottage to call home. Leona and Beth hike together, shop together, share their hopes and fears with one another. People say they’re more like best friends than mother and daughter.
It’s the relationship every mother dreams of.
But their closeness means that Beth struggles to make friends. Her mother has kept her sheltered from the world. She’s more reliant on her mother’s love. More vulnerable.
When Beth finds an envelope hidden under the floorboards of their home, the contents make her heart stop. Everything she thought she knew about her mother is a lie. And she realises there is no one she can turn to for help.
What if you’ve been protected from strangers your whole life, but the one person you can’t trust is the person closest to home?
What She Saw is a gripping psychological thriller with an incredible twist that will make your jaw drop. If you love The Girl on the Train, Gone Girl, or anything by B. A. Paris you’ll be consumed by this.

If you have 5 hours to wait for a story to get going, like in traffic or getting a root canal (a long one) then perhaps it's worth a credit. I buy unabridged audiobooks to help assuage my time driving but my word, do NOT expect Gone Girl or any of the like in this book. Below average. Audible needs a bonified psychological thriller group that is just that and not some lifetime narrated story.

Transporting and Gripping
Masterfully written to every detail making you feel you know the area, can picture the scenes and truly know the characters. At least you think you know them until a plot twist throws you a bit. But this is a good thing. Just when you think you have a weak female character on your hands (can't stand that), what makes her seem weak turns out to be her fighting to keep a dangerous past at bay and protect her family while fighting her own demons and trying to live up to the demands of life. Every time you think you've git it and even as the story unfolds, hang on because a turn of events is headed your way. The performance was excellent.

Mostly a really good thriller
This book came with many excellent reviews and, for the most part, lived up to them. The plot device was interesting and carried out well for about three quarters of the book. At that point, predictable melodrama set in and a soap opera ending left a sour taste that doesn't encourage me to read anything more by this author.

Not a bad story, if I'd read it
I nearly gave up on this so many times, due to the awful narration. There was about as much feeling as a robot and, like one of the other reviewers pointed out, over-observance of commas so that there was no flow - it just sounded so stilted with those annoying pauses after "and".
The story itself was good except for the over-abundance of tears throughout. There didn't seem to be a chapter where somebody wasn't sobbing, eyes filling with tears, eyes pricking with tears.

Over dramatic complicated nonsense
Sometimes less plot is most definitely more. Why does it need to be so complicated? 1 or 2 twists ....fair enough but when it gets too many l just lose interest. Some of the writing was so amateurish and made me cringe in places. The narrator had no 'soft subdued' mode. It was like so many audible these days loud sharp with no feeling.

Got to chapter 13 and could not take it anymore, was pleased to be able to return for credit. I like a bit of suspense, but absolutely nothing had happened, it was all just padding. Found myself switching off in irritation. We were promised a twist, but to twist the story, you need a story in the first place. I will never know What She Saw, but frankly, life is too short to wait around to find out.

enjoyable read but a little too long
I really enjoyed the first Wendy Clarke book I read, (We were sisters) but I felt the pace of that was quicker. The reason I didn't give the book four stars is because- for me- it was a little too long at the beginning. The narrator is one of my favourites and she was - as always excellent.

Fantastic book
This was pretty much faultless. The story was amazing and the narration was great. The only thing that was a bit disappointing was the end. I feel like we could have been given another hour or so of the aftermath and how the characters dealt with the events on the fells. I felt it ended rather abruptly and I was a bit disappointed.
