Publisher's Summary

In the best-selling tradition of Rosemary Altea and John Edwards comes the memoir of Mary Ann Winkowski, the real life "Ghost Whisperer" and consultant on the Top 30 CBS show Ghost Whisperer starring Jennifer Love Hewitt.

Lights flicker on and off for no good reason. You feel drained and inexplicably irritable. Your four-year-old is scared to enter her bedroom.

Tell these things to Mary Ann Winkowski, and she'll tell you that you have a ghost.

A happily married, devout Catholic, suburban mother, and full-time paranormal investigator, Mary Ann Winkowski has been able to see earthbound spirits, spirits that are trapped on Earth and haven't "crossed over", since she was a little girl. Mary Ann works with these spirits to help them make peace with what keeps them here - whether it be people they can't let go of or homes they love.

In When Ghosts Speak, Mary Ann will tell the amazing story of growing up with this gift, and will share tips on how to recognize when you're not alone, and what to do if you are in the presence of a ghost.

Love the subject, not the narrator

The material is interesting. I learned a few things. At least now, if I miss my white light I know where to go to hitch a ride on someone else's. : )

Unfortunately this is one of the instances where an author shouldn't narrate their own work. While I am sure the author is an accomplished speaker, audio-books are a different beast. They can make or break a book.

When Ghosts Speak

A wonderful guide to earthbound spirits. The book is well written and easy to listen to with no “hocus locus” like some of the other books I have read. Mary Ann seem like a down to earth person. Hopefully one day I will get to meet her in person.

Interesting material, abysmal narration

I genuinely want to finish this book because I'm curious about the author's experiences but HOLY COW she's painful to listen to. I appreciate when authors want to narrate their own material because you can sometimes get a better feel for the true sense of the writing and how it's meant to be read. But the author's Midwestern accent, dull intonation, and grating enunciation make her interesting material sound terribly boring. I had to return it.

Firsthand knowledge is what it's all about

This book is a collection of firsthand information gathered by Mary Ann Winkowski. She speaks frankly and easily of the experiences she has had with souls not yet moved on. I highly recommend!

The best I've ever read/listened to in my life

Normally, I get a feeling of fear when listening to audiobooks when trying to understand ghosts. My brother took his life and I want to know so badly what he may experience. And what other family members have experienced after passing. I've often thought about my own death. Especially "What if I don't want to go? What if I want to stay with my kids?" This book matter of factly explains absolutely everything. She is SO calm and truthful. I've never come across someone that I never doubt and who does such a wonderful job. Definite MUST for anyone with questions about after death.

So excited to see this available in audiobook!

This was the first book I checked out from the library as an adult. I was enraptured then and was enraptured now. In my opinion the book doesn't have any boring spots at all... it's just fun and funny and full of great info. One thing I will comment on. In all my years of listening I had NEVER listened to audiobooks at a different speed than 1.0x, but even though I'm from the Midwest too, Mary Ann just spoke too slowly. I found 1.25x the perfect speed to listen to this audiobook. I found it more amusing than annoying though; plus, no one but Mary Ann should read the book. :-) Very well worth the listen.

Amazing. I wanna hear it again.

WoW! Learned so much. Great stories.

I thought ghosts actually could see the future, and knew our thoughts. I thought since they were dead now , they knew everything. They don't , cuz they didn't go into the light. She says ghosts don't have a special powers. If they couldn't tell the future or read minds in real life, they can't as a ghost. That ghosts act the same as they did when they were alive, except no body. The only way the ghost can evolve is to go into the light.
