Publisher's Summary
'Do you ever wonder if you've lived the life you were meant to?' I ask her.
She sighs and dips her head. 'Even if I do, what difference will it make?'
In 1988 two girls with identical names and the same love of ballet meet for the first time. They seem destined to be best friends forever and to become professional dancers. Years later, however, they have both been dealt so many cruel and unexpected blows that they walk away from each other into very different futures - one enters a convent, the other becomes a minor celebrity.
Will these new 'invisible' lives be the ones they were meant to live, or will they find that kind of salvation only when they are reunited 20 years later?

Dorothy Koomson is back on form!
This story is brilliant. The last few from her have been a bit blah but she's back on form! I couldn't stop listening to this. Performances were really good too.

Excellent story, well read.
What made the experience of listening to When I Was Invisible the most enjoyable?
I've listened to Dorothy Kroomson books before, and I love her style and the way her characters are so believable and have depth. She deals with issues without you feeling like the whole story is about those issues, it is very much about the characters.
What did you like best about this story?
The way the story and characters are still with me. I had to keep listening to find out what was going to happen next.
Which character – as performed by Susy Kane and Sara Powell – was your favourite?
All the characters were performed brilliantly and were very real.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
I don't want to give the story away! Very real depictions of how people can end up in situations they didn't imagine.

Superb storytelling
I admire the work of this Dorothy Koomson and have downloaded the majority of her books available on Audible. Her characters are always interesting and engaging and the storylines have unanticipated twists and turns. This book is no different and, in my opinion, it is her best.. Brilliant premise and I love the device of the delivering the story using changing timelines. I very much look forward to the next book by this author.

Compelling!
What about Susy Kane and Sara Powell ’s performance did you like?
The narration was perfect.
Any additional comments?
This is beautifully written and compelling, with richly drawn characters that are easy to care about. It is filled with human distress, but there is believable justice there too. A warm blanket of a book.

LOVED this book, Sara Powell narration was top!
Wow, what a rollercoaster. Loved this book, very well written and narrated. Very dark and difficult topics but at the same time it wasn’t difficult to listen as it was handled so delicately through the characters . I loved Nika/Grace character and Sara Powell’s narration made this listen for me. Absolutely brilliant and I wish she would be narrating more books. I didn’t want it to end,

Not the best book she has written
A little slow to begin with and quite predictable. Not one of my favourite books by one of my favourite authors.

Gripping story of betrayal and love
At first I struggled to keep pace with the movement through different years and different stories but when it finally clicked, I couldn’t put this book down. The twists and turns kept you gripped and as the truth played out I was engrossed in the plot. It was totally plausible that this could have happened and the strength and emotions of both Ronnie and Nicka were well researched. A great read and reminded me of the ice cream girls.

Emotional experience written really well
The emotional experience of trauma was covered unusually well for a fiction book. There are some quotes of the book that are very similar to things I have journaled or communicated about a couple of experiences the protagonists suffer.

Dark subject matter but most engaging
From the first 5 minutes this book has you hooked. Whilst not a nice underlying subject the book tells an engaging story of the long term impacts these events can have on individials, and all their relationships.
There are some interesting turn of events with the outcomes not always as anticipated.
Another interesting read from an Author I recently discovered.
Keeps you hooked but subject content won't be for everybody.
