Publisher's Summary

"A film-ready rom-com about finding love when you least expect it." (Elle)

"My favorite romantic book of recent memory." (Emma Straub)

"The delightful, sexy, queer rom-com of the summer...[with] all the makings of a Nora Ephron classic." (Vogue.com)

One of NPR's best books of 2018.

One of Washington Post's 50 notable works of fiction in 2018.

From the acclaimed author of The Assistants comes another gutsy book about the importance of women taking the reins - this time, when it comes to love, sex, and self-acceptance.

When it comes to Cassidy, Katie can't think straight.

Katie Daniels, a 28-year-old Kentucky transplant with a strong set of traditional values, has just been dumped by her fiancé when she finds herself seated across a negotiating table from native New Yorker Cassidy Price, a sexy, self-assured woman wearing a man's suit. At first neither of them knows what to make of the other, but soon their undeniable connection will bring into question everything each of them thought they knew about sex and love.

When Katie Met Cassidy is a romantic comedy about gender and sexuality and the importance of figuring out who we are in order to go after what we truly want. It's also a portrait of a high-drama subculture where barrooms may as well be bedrooms and loyal friends fill in the spaces absent families leave behind. Katie's glimpse into this wild yet fiercely tight-knit community begins to alter not only how she sees the larger world but also where exactly she fits in.

Critic Reviews

“My favorite romantic book of recent memory.” (Emma Straub, New York Times best-selling author of Modern Lovers)

“A tender tale of finding yourself and trusting unexpected impulses.” (Cosmopolitan)

“As timeless, warm, and funny as When Harry Met Sally, with the same irresistible Big Apple backdrop and a modern tribe of bar-hopping friends who become as close as family. Perri’s latest will inspire you to go after what you want and hold on to what you already have with both hands.” (Elisabeth Egan, Glamour

Narrator

The book was really good. Highly recommend it. The Narrator was horrible though. They definitely need a new one.

Not too original

The story was fairly predictable except with two women and for two woman it was even more predictable. Not many surprises. I suppose if one were straight and never been with a woman it probably was more interesting. But in terms of a compelling story not really there. The narrator was poor and didn't really differentiate the voices of the different characters very well. They really needed a second voice to make the performance more interesting.

Sweet queer romance

I devoured this in less than 24 hours! The narrator isn't great, but the story pulls you in pretty quickly and it's an easy listen. It's not super groundbreaking, and lacks the emotional depth of something like Call Me By Your Name. But it's a very sweet story with a happy ending for two women - if they make this into a movie, I'd see it.

Loved this book

Love the characters, the story line, for a change no evil ex just getting to know you and yourself... refreshing.
Narration was exquisite.

Not as great as I heard it was

Kind of left me with a "meh" feeling, not as great of a love story as they hyped it up

Finding the right person to move forward with

Cassidy is a true player sleeping her way through life until she meets Katie. Katie believes she is straight and can’t explain her attraction to Cassidy. They have a few hurdles to get past but in the end they are falling for each other. The narrator does a good job with the story.

Great lesbian love story!

This is such a sweet story and so many familiar references to what being a lesbian and going to gay bars is like. This story had me taking many trips down memory lane as I look back on my coming off age trying to figure out my sexuality. There are so many references that made me laugh out loud and it is such a comfort to read a love story that I can relate to!

Worst lgbtq book i’ve read

Honestly, the entire time I was listening, I felt offended. I assumed it was written by a straight person that was extremely homophobic, but the fact that it wasn’t might even make it worse. The only characters of color didn’t get names, and this book reduces lesbians to stereotypes that offended both my wife and I. Overall, I’m disappointed. 2 stars is gracious.

Marvelous Rom-Com.

When Kentucky born Katie Daniels meets Cassidy Price across the negotiation table she finds a sexy gender bending woman who challenges what she thinks she knows about love. A great narration.

Enjoyable, needs a sequel

If you are looking for a hot steamy romance this isn't it. If you are looking for a mild "woman's sexual awakening" this is it. I love the butch, androgynous, non binary views from both characters. It was tame and I enjoyed it. I would love this story to have a sequel.
