Publisher's Summary

Toby's getting married! Now in audio, the 14th novel of the Hugo-nominated, New York Times-best-selling October Daye urban fantasy series.

It's hard to be a hero. There's always something needing October "Toby" Daye's attention, and her own desires tend to fall by the wayside in favor of solving the Kingdom's problems. That includes the desire to marry her long-time suitor and current fiancé, Tybalt, San Francisco's King of Cats. She doesn't mean to keep delaying the wedding; it just sort of...happens. And that's why her closest friends have taken the choice out of her hands, ambushing her with a court wedding at the High Court in Toronto. Once the High King gets involved, there's not much even Toby can do to delay things...

...except for getting involved in stopping a plot to overthrow the High Throne itself, destabilizing the Westlands entirely, and keeping her from getting married through nothing more than the sheer volume of chaos it would cause. Can Toby save the Westlands and make it to her own wedding on time? Or is she going to have to choose one over the other?

Includes an all-new bonus novella!

The one where Toby gets married!

I loved this book! We are 15 books into the series, and I am still completely captivated by the world building, the characters, the mysteries, and everything else. Nearly all of my favorite characters were involved, and there were some big emotional payoffs following the wedding. I can't wait to see what Seanan has in store for us next.

Boring

Honestly, this series is just getting boring. It's basically the same story repeated over and over again. Toby walks into another kingdom, someone tries to take over that kingdom, Toby acts like she's in charge and better than everyone, everyone agrees, Toby saves the day. Rinse and repeat for fifty books.

It feels like the ending is missing

I really did like the book, but the novella is really tied into this book, so it's absence makes it feel a bit unfinished. The novella is not available independently anywhere, So I felt like I was being asked to buy the same book again.

October “Toby” Daye review

I binged read the series. I invested the time, might as well read through to the latest. I was bored the first half. I don’t know? The chemistry between rude and arrogant Toby and super sensitive Tybalt is not exciting. Plus, it annoys me to no end to hear (on Audible) the pronunciation of Muir as “moor”. As a native San Franciscan, it is not pronounced “moor”! There were a few other words but that was in a few novels back. Mary must not be born and raised in San Francisco. San Franciscans have a distinct way of saying certain words. The parents and grandparents born here back in the 30’s and 40’s had more of a nasal accent. Other than that, I do appreciate how Mary has created different voices for the different characters. This latest novel picked up once the wedding party arrived at their destination.

wedding too rushed

This is my favorite series. I love Toby and Tybalt. I have been looking forward to the wedding forever. I felt it was a bit rushed and hated the sudden arrow ambush interruption. Wish Toby and her love could have shared more tender moments. It seemed like all the teary moments were with her friends or for Quentin. There was not enough focus on the couple. It was a little bit of let down I hope the next book focuses on the honeymoon and the relationship much more.
