Publisher's Summary

On the first day, she met her match. Then she killed 16 men.

Tossed into the gladiator arena, the delicate girl in the fancy pink dress should have been the first to die. Leyli had other plans. Surviving was at the top of her list. Revenge was a close second.

Having grown up behind the sheltered walls of the Oberhame Palace, she knew what the crowd wanted. She'd just become a pawn in the games of men. But why was she still alive? They'd killed her brother, the heir to the throne. Had they gotten to her father? Was the king dead?

In the cell beside her, the Lion of Lenlochlien was impressed. When he offered advice, she took it. When she kept coming back after each round, he dared to hope she'd survive. He had no idea he was about to become her best weapon.

Leyli didn't just want to live through the games, she wanted to protect her father's throne, but to do that, she had to become someone else. The Lion had to make her a Wolf.

Chained side by side, he'll show her how to be a killer. She'll give him a reason to keep fighting. Together, they'll learn it takes a friend to survive.

Good surprise

The interesting thing about this book is the genre it is in sci-fi/ fantasy. I think this book is more a game of thrones set in a bronze age it might even be considered a romance story. As well the adult relationship is done very well and quite in opinion believable. The characters are likable, the fight scenes are good and I believe this book is worth a listen.

Auryn is a master!

Please make all your books available on audio! The two currently available are both some of the best books I have heard. Narration is also great on both this and "Kiss of Death". You are a genius of this genre!

Perfection

For a book to be so amazing that it can even keep a reader devouring each page even if the whole gladiator doesn't normally get a second look from me. It just isn't a genre I am into but I did love every book of Auryn Hadley's is instantly clicked. I am so bad that i got this book. It was so much more than a Gladiator book. Anything this women writes I will read! Perfection!

When we were Kings

I LOVE this author!! The characters are real, the stories original, and the only things that ever trouble me is when the next isn’t written yet or the narration hasn’t been done yet. I can’t wait to listen to the next!

In love

I loved this story of finding inner strength and growing from the journey. Finding that one person to have your back no matter what is a real gift. Finding that person in the most unlikely of places is a blessing.

Awful narration

I loved the book on Kindle but the narrator in this version has an awful nasal voice plus the characterizations were like Boston mob accents. I can’t finish it. What a waste of money.

Unique

This story is a fantasy novel with a Roman gladiator feel. Both main characters are fabulous in this book, and I really felt for both of them.

One of my favorite books from Auryn Hadley.

I love the trilogy, the story is touching and very well written. I highly recommend reading this book. I hope that you would fall in love with the characters as I have.

Not a Bad Start

This is a story about a princess who is kidnapped by her cousin and sold on as a slave, later to appear in the gladiator arena, where she meets Tristan, the Lion of Lenlochlien, who takes her under his wing. He teaches Leyli everything he knows to survive the arena and whilst they start to fall in love with each other, their relationship remains platonic.

No surprise that they form a bond together. Then they are separated when Leyli is sold onto another slave dealer.... All this and she is on the run from assassins.

This is a slow burn love story/fantasy mix which is very easy to listen to with very likeable characters. I am a little unsure about the narration, but maybe it will grow on me.

Reminiscent of Conn Iggulden with a young female twist! I look forward to seeing how the story progresses.
