Story
Investigative journalist Laura Chambers is back in her tiny hometown of Hillsborough, North Carolina, the one place she swore never to return. Fired from The Boston Globe, her career in shambles, she reluctantly takes a job with the local paper. The work is simple, unimportant, and worst of all, boring - at least until a missing girl turns up dead, the body impeccably clean, dressed to be the picture of innocence. Years earlier, 10-year-old Patty Finch left home and never made it back. But for the people of Hillsborough, Patty was just the beginning.

And Gray may not want him found.
Her life is unraveling.
When a stranger named Annie calls claiming to know Paul's whereabouts, Gray reluctantly accepts her help. But this ally is not what she seems: soon Annie is sending frightening messages and revealing disturbing secrets only Gray could know. As Annie's threats escalate and Gray's grip on reality begins to slip, the life she thought she had and the dark truth she's been living begin to merge, leaving an unsettling question: What does Annie want? And what will she do to get it?

Good story until 7.5 hours in there is a graphic description of cruelty against a domestic animal. Wish I'd been warned, I"d have never started the book. I'm unable to listen to that and call it entertainment or interesting.

When You Find "When You Find Me"........
When you find "When You Find Me", I suggest finding another book.
Ugh! This book was not what I was expecting and, overall, it was a disappointment. The reviews for this book were good and that is why I stuck with it.
My major complaint about the book was that it was much, much too long. Where was the editor? Did he/she fall asleep???? The book's plot was weak and this book could have easily been a 7-hour book instead of a 10-hour one. I do not want to give specific examples of excessive content because I want to avoid providing spoilers.
I usually like books with at least two narrators and that was one of the reasons why I selected this title. The two narrators had very similar voices, however, which really defeated the purpose of having two narrators.
Audible has so many amazing titles and this was not one of them.

Odd & convoluted with too many sub themes. Is it about mental illness? Alcoholism? Race? Sisterly betrayal? Fraught mother daughter relationships? Marriage? Politics? Religion? S&M? Corrupt law enforcement? Yes & I didn’t even list everything. It leaves behind an underdeveloped & underwhelming story.

AMAZING!!!
This is the 49th book I have read this year and it is quite possibly the best so far. I read (or listen to) lots of books and I usually figure out where it is headed relatively quickly. Unfortunately, figuring the ending out early can be a little anti-climactic. I thought for sure I had the ending pegged several times, but every idea I had was wrong. Vernon kept me guessing until the very last sentence!!
The book started a little slow, but once it had my attention, I couldn't read fast enough. Congrats on your debut novel!! Very well done and hope to read more in the future.
A little shout out to the narrators... Awesome job as well!!

Good story, great twists, fantastic narration
I enjoyed this audio book very much. It was a good story that evolved quite slowly but had a few interesting twists along the way. It’s was probably a tad too drawn out if I’m honest, and if I were reading this as a book, I would probably be a little bored in places. However with the audible edition, I found the narrators were fantastic and they totally kept my interest with their incredibly authentic reading of the story.

Absolutely brilliant!
I nearly didn’t listen to this book, I’d only given it 10 mins but didn’t like the drawling accent, so I gave up and moved onto another.
After finding myself without Wi-Fi the other day, it was the only thing in my library I could listen to so gave it another go. I’m so glad I did! As soon as I’d got into the characters and storyline, my silly dislike of the accent went and I was drawn in….
The story touches on many sensitive topics, all of which I felt were handled sensitively and with understanding. I was kept guessing until the end. I don’t normally leave reviews but this book changed that. I highly recommend it!

Probably the worst book I have ever read
starting from an interesting enough premise, from the halfpoint onward the book builds toward a soap opera style, super predictable turn of events, with a telegraphed "shocking" finale worth of the cheesiest b-movie.
During the listening I kept hoping that the ineffective red herring would be proved right at the end, just to divert from the banal direction the thing was taking, and most of everything to steer away from the two gaping plot holes that the solution planned by the author would have left.
The delicate subject matter is treated with rough, heavy hands, prioritizing morbid details and shock value over suspence and psychological horror. A cheap thriller that gives cheap thrills.
This hot mess of a plot is very well written, at least.
The narrator's interpretation is another big drawback. she is ok most of the time, but everytime she has to play a male role, her voice beomes a weird parody. It's the same effect you would have if a man turned to a comedic falsetto to imitate a female voice.
