Publisher's Summary

A need to belong drives her. A longing to forget compels him. Fate may send them into each other's arms, but only love can mend their hearts.

An Outlander

Raised by a tyrannical father, Marion de Lacy yearns for the comfort of belonging to a loving family. So when her father announces her betrothal to an evil knight in exchange for his help to overthrow the king, she concocts a desperate scheme to avoid the marriage: feigning her own death and then fleeing England. But when her plan goes terribly awry and she's captured by the knight, not even her careful preparations could ready her for the Scottish barbarian who rescues her and then informs her that he's to marry her by edict of her king. Certain her father will defy the king's orders and wed her to the knight if she refuses the Highlander's hand, Marion agrees to marry the strangely compelling but obstinate laird of the MacLeod clan.

A Highlander

After the death of his beloved wife, Iain MacLeod has no desire to marry ever again. Yet when he finds himself obliged to do so to secure the freedom of his childhood friend and king, he reluctantly travels across England to collect his unwanted bride, expecting to find a cold Englishwoman. Instead, he discovers a fiery, bold beauty who is fiercely loyal, protective of those she loves, and defies him at every turn, challenging his certainty that his heart is dead.

Ensnared

Following a hasty marriage and perilous journey to Scotland, Marion harbors no illusions that her new husband loves her. Still, her heart cannot resist the noble, brave warrior, and she cannot suppress the hope that she has finally found where she belongs. However, the harder she tries to fit in with the clan and gain Iain's love, the farther away her dreams drift. Iain is more than willing to give his respect to his courageous wife - her kisses and caresses even ignite his blood and demand his passion - but he refuses to give up his heart.

A Little DeJaVu.....But Great!

I love highlander books and this one is enchanting, exciting, and adventurous from beginning to end. It has wonderful characters and a delightful story......but I have to admit, a little into the story I started to get a little dejavu. It took me a while to figure it out but the story is very reminiscent of "The Bride" by Julie Garwood. In fact, much of the storyline is similar. So, if you liked "The Bride" you are sure to enjoy this one too. 😉

Tim Campbell did a wonderful job narrating, as usual. 😀

Wow, loved it!

What did you like best about this story?

This book far exceeded my expectations, it was such a joy to listen to, and I really fell in love with the characters, especially the main characters Iain and Marion. What I loved best were the layers within this story - this wasn't just about the two main characters, the author brought in so many characters to add complexity and depth. You could get a feel for each character's personality, emotions, etc. I also loved that I couldn't predict what would happen. There were many surprises! I even literally cried at one point in the story, my heart felt so much for Marion. So sad it ended! Bravo, well done with this historical romance.

Which scene was your favorite?

Oh, hard to choose! I really enjoyed the part of the book just before and after Marion meets Iain, and their journey together. I also loved listening to how Marion overcame challenges she faced in her new home, especially with the other women. There were times when I cringed feeling her pain, and joy to find out how she solved problems. What an admirable character.

Any additional comments?

The narrator did a great job. At first I was skeptical about a male voice telling a love story, wondering how Marion would sound, but he did a truly amazing job. He is wonderful with accents and pitches.

Not sure

What does Tim Campbell bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

He was a good narrator but nothing new or special

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

NO

Any additional comments?

I am sorry to say I did not like When A Laird Loves A Lady!! The storyline was not appealing to me at all.

Lady Mairon de Lacy has been order by her father Baron deLacy to marry Sir William Froste. A man she can't abide. After pleading with her father and he ruthlessly beating her Marion fakes her death.

Iain MacLeod has tried in vain to gain the release of the Scottish King David from his imprisonment in England. King Edward of England has demanded that Iain marry Baron de Lacy's daughter Marion. Kind Edward believes that de Lacy and Froste are planning to take over the throne. So he must stop the marriage that will forge and alliance between de Lacy and Froste.

Poor Marion has been unloved and beaten by her father all her life and now she must marry Iain Laird of Clan MacLeod. Iain vows to be kind to her but he will never love her. Iain loves his dead wife Caitriona and has vowed never to forget her. I don't like 3rd party marriages and Catriona is a constant character between Iain an Marion. He never lets Marion forget he loves his dead wife. This pre occupation with a dead women and the constant reminder of her went on way to far in the story, to the end. Marion suffers untold amounts of physical abuse through the story first at the hands of her father, then at the hands of Froste, and then at the hands of his men. Oh and lets not forget the abuse she suffers once she and Iain get to his castle. She is poisoned and treated badly by Catriona's sisters.

Come on how much Abuse was the heroine suppose to endure? This was not a happy story. I hated Iain for most of the story and Marion was just a weak women who accepted her abuse by everyone around her. I Cannot Recommend When A Laird Loves A Lady!! Sorry!!

Excellent Story and Narration

This is my first book by this author and the story was excellent. The main characters are well written and life during that time period is historically accurate. I was especially impressed by the narration. Mr. Campbell was Excellent! I have my favorite narrators for different authors and these 2 make a great pair. If you like Highland romance you have to listen to this one. I can't wait to start the next book in this series.

What's not to love?

Fabulous! This was a perfect example of the ideal medieval Highland historical romance! Although the similarities between Julie Garwoods' 'The Bride' and this tale are very nearly scarey I still found it enjoyble!

NARRATOR : Tim Campbell is one of my favorites. Two thumbs up, a perfect ten, five star etc....

HEAT FACTOR: Scalding!

Definitely A Winner

This was a wonderful book. The love story was we'll done, the love scenes had just the right amount of steam and the drama and suspense kept me on the edge if my seat until the end.

The narrator was superb too. I would definitely look for other books specifically he's the narrator

Don't Judge A Book by its Cover!!! :(

Any additional comments?

Don't judge a book by its cover; the cover was great, the book was NOT. This book couldn't end fast enough, absolutely boring.

Truly Worth the Read

I am a huge Outlander fanatic and must say that I expected this book to mimic its story line. It's completely different, with all the great things we love about strapping Scots, love, sex, intrigue and excitement. I couldn't put the book down.

when a Laird loves a lady

A new author for me but I really liked it. Brave girl bartered by her cruel father for one cruel man and the English king for an honourable man who still grieves the loss of his first wife. She tries to escape her father, gets caught by the cruel one then rescued by the cold one. She has more backbone and intelligence than they know. Great story good narrator. just bought audible book 2...

when a laird loved a Lady excellent book.

I'm not into the woman saving herself and being a hard ball. I love a sexy hero, a damsel and bad guy. with romance, Witt, betrayal and action. this book gives a good mix of everything.

the narration was great. Both the English and Scottish accents are pleasing to listen too. I am just now hoping there are more in the series!
