Publisher's Summary

Libby has been given a powerful gift: to live one life in 1774 colonial Williamsburg and the other in 1914 Gilded Age New York City. When she falls asleep in one life, she wakes up in the other without any time passing. She has one conscious mind but two very different lives and bodies.

In colonial Williamsburg, Libby is a public printer for the House of Burgesses and the royal governor, trying to provide for her family and support the Patriot cause. The man she loves, Henry Montgomery, has his own secrets. As the revolution draws near, both their lives—and any hope of love—are put in jeopardy.

Libby's life in 1914 New York is filled with wealth, drawing-room conversations, and bachelors. But the only work she cares about—women's suffrage—is discouraged, and her mother is intent on marrying her off to an undesirable English marquess. The growing talk of war in Europe further complicates matters and forces her to make sacrifices she never imagined. On her 21st birthday, Libby must choose one path and forfeit the other forever—but how can she possibly choose when she has so much to lose in each life?

A Split time/time slip/duel time story

Never would I have ever considered reading a split time/time slip/duel time book like this, until I listened to the Christian Historical Fiction Talk podcast. Episode 78 featured Morgan Tarpley Smith explaining what split time/time slip/duel time fiction means and episode 77 featured the author Gabrielle Meyers, who wrote “When the Day Comes.” After listening to these episodes, I decided to give “When the Day Comes” a try. I am so glad that I did! I thoroughly enjoyed the book and I look forward to her upcoming book about Maggie. Rachel Botchan is one of my most favorite narrators. Every audio book that I have listened to that she has narrated has spoken to my heart. I am amazed how Gabrielle came up with this story and made it work. I am now interested in other books written by Gabrielle Meyer besides her split time/duel time stories. She is a good writer and I am grateful for such a wonderful story to enjoy and savor.

Loved this beautiful story

I thought it was a tad slow at first but soon became enthralled with all the characters and the two lives the main character leads. I really liked the Christian perspective that God is sovereign and we need to do His will and trust Him. It kept me interested and the twist at the end was worth listening to the book. I would recommend this book if you love history, and romance, with a little mystery

Enjoyable story line about two different eras.

Story line was interesting and I thought it was going to be boring. Instead I really enjoyed the jumping back between two different eras. Also liked the input of the historical information of the American Revolution and WW I.
I may check out other books by author since her writing is different from my usual read.

Wonderful, different, historical -narrator good too

Wow, just wow! This book hooks you right from the start! I listened on Audible, and enjoyed the narrator very much. The book jumps right in with Libby who lives in 1774 Colonial Williamsburg and when she falls asleep there, she awakes in 1914 New York City’s Gilded Age. But she’s the same person living two lives. Each chapter then goes back and forth! Such an interesting way to do the dual time-line and the history in both was well researched and kept you turning the pages! The days, weeks, months flow smoothly and quickly, and as her 21st birthday approaches, she has decisions to make. Which life will she choose? I really enjoyed listening to this book and can’t wait for the sequel!!

Beware, pseudo-Christian dreck

If your brand of Christianity preaches that everything that happens is God’s will, including multiple sexual assaults, and the real life is looking for “His purpose” in your suffering, then you’ll love this. If however you are a rational individual, religious or not, then I beg you to skip this and save yourself the disgust and nausea.

The time travel part mechanism is pretty cool but cannot make up for the rest. The reader is fine except there were a number of times where she flubbed a line and rather than re-record, she just turned it in as is. Not so much as to be detrimental to the plot but odd to find in a professional production.

Great premise and well written. However…

The author injects so much Christianity it makes readers who aren’t makes the book unreadable. And I wanted to it was a great plot.
Mentioning your characters believe in god it fine -throwing it in as only one BRAND of religion ensures you lose the majority of your potential readers.

Enjoyable read

While I surmised the subplot well in advance, I found the way the author brought it all about to be very well done. I could not have imagined how she could tie so many loose ends so well.

Story is unlike any other I have read! So compelling! Love that you are wondering how it ends the whole time and hoping that it never does end.
