Story
The night uncovers all we wish not to see. A troubled man enters a dusky park before sunset. A young woman follows, hidden in shadow. Both have returned to the park to take back something the past has stolen from them, to make right six long years of suffering, and to find justice or perhaps redemption - or maybe they'll settle for some old-fashioned revenge. But something evil is alive and awake in those woods, creatures that care nothing for human motivations. They’re driven by their own insatiable need: a ravenous, bottomless hunger.

Publisher's Summary
The dense Bavarian forest outside the town of Rattenberg has long been rumored to harbor something sinister, something wild - mythical beasts that vanish into the shadowy woods after each attack, leaving carnage as the only evidence of their existence. Many villagers turn a blind eye to what is happening, but those who believe tremble at the mere whisper of the word: werewolf.
There are those who stand and fight, however. Konrad is one such boy. Too poor to live in the village, he and his mother fend for themselves in their forest hovel alone for months at a time, his father preoccupied with mysterious business abroad.
After a vicious assault on their homestead, Konrad finds himself buried beneath his mother's mutilated body, escaping death only due to his father's chance return. Alive, but taking no comfort in the presence of the man who had left him and his mother to face death on their own, Konrad soon discovers that his father's work has followed him home...and it's hungry.

Wow. LOVED this story!
I just can't tell you how much I enjoyed this story. Maybe it's because I have a thing for werewolf stories, as well as the pre-industrial forest setting, reminiscent of a fairy tale--and so the idea of combining the two was, for me, simply awesome--but whatever it was, it was nearly perfect. I just wish it had been longer. I don't want to spoil it by saying too much, so I'll just say that if you have an interest in books of this type, this one can't be beat. I really recommend you give it a try.
The narration was phenomenal. I can't find many titles by Jonathan Ip currently , but I certainly hope he does more in the future.

Good, except for volume. drivers beware.
A lot of people that listen to audiobooks do so on their drives, or during manual labor. So its important to have standards for adequate volume. This one does not. Too quiet. Partly the master level, partly the soft spoken narrator. So most of the time i tried to listen to this was EXTREMELY FRUSTRATING. That aside, narrator did fine. The story was good.

Where Wolves Run
This was unlike any of the other books I have read/listened to by Jason Parent. I like the way he writes for the most part, but this story was a blast. Werewolf stories are usually hit and miss for me. This one was really good. I liked the characters and the plotline. It was really well written and the narration by Jonathan Ip was perfectly done. I hope he writes more like this.

A good quick werewolf story
I love horror and I love a good werewolf tale. Consequently having listened to so many great ones that I’ve given five stars across the board to, I just can’t put this one in their ranks. It’s good, good character development, good monsters, backstory, transformations, plot. Great narration.it just didn’t rope me in like other werewolf stories I’ve listened to/read. That being said it doesn’t mean that you won’t enjoy it more than I did. Get it and give it a shot. It is good. A Quick Listen With Ironic Horror.
Konrad has been raised by his loving mother since they were abandoned by his father. For a number of years he longed to have his father return and develop a relationship. However, as time goes by with no appearance by his father he closes his heart to him. One-night howling and a ruckus is heard outside their door. Konrad's mother rushes him to the root cellar under the floor telling him to stay there no matter what happens. This night brings his father back, now not so welcome, and changes Konrad’s life.
The interaction between Konrad and father and the dangers they face fills the rest of the story and contributes to the ironic horror. The story moves along at a quick pace. There are moments of tenderness but more moments of danger and, of course, horror. I enjoyed this quick story and its irony even though I am not a huge fan of horror stories. I do recommend it to horror fans.
Audio notes: Jonathan does a good job of narrating this short work. He expresses voices for the characters and gives them energy. The narration contributed to my enjoyment of the story.

a little gem of a story
Where Wolves Run was like listening to a fairytale classic. Set in Rattenberg in the Bavarian forests, we are introduced to Konrad, a young boy, living a simple life, spending his time at home with his loving mother. His father, once again, has left them taking care of "business" elsewhere. Konrad hardly knows his father and their relationship is strained. Then one night, the boy and his mother hear wolves surrounding their simple dwelling and Konrad's life changes abruptly.
This was my first book by Jason Parent and I really enjoyed his style of writing. His use of language is excellent making the story flow very well. The descriptive prose really made this reminiscent of traditional folk stories rather than one of the more modern werewolves horror stories. But it contained, of course, some nicely gruesome scenes, too. Considering this was a very short story, both, Konrad and his father, who remains unnamed throughout, were characterized in depth. It was easy to feel for them. The ending - although not unexpected - was done very well, and I liked that the author decided on this route. At only 1 hour and 55 minutes, this was perfect for listening to in one sitting. It easily held my attention throughout.
Jonathan Ip was a new narrator to me and this looks to be his first narration on Audible. He absolutely nailed it. I would happily listen to him narrate longer books. His voice is very pleasant, he speaks clearly and his pacing is good. Although there weren't many characters' voices to cope with, they were done distinctly and with some excellent use of accents. There were no issues with the production of the audio.
Overall, a little gem of a story, written and narrated impressively. I would certainly look out for other books by the author and by the narrator.
