Once, I was nothing. Hungry, abandoned, wandering, and alone. An adolescent street rat fighting for crumbs. Then a chance encounter changed my entire world. A man in an expensive suit asked me how much my life was worth. I didn't have an answer because I didn't know. He asked if I thought it was worth killing for. Impulsively, I said yes.... He found me, then fostered me, and, in the interim, turned me into a killing machine.

Publisher's Summary
At 19 years old, college student Josie Stratton was kidnapped by a madman and held shackled for 10 months in an abandoned warehouse before she finally escaped her hellish prison.
Eight years later, when the body of a young woman is found chained in the basement of a vacant house, Cincinnati Police Detective Zach Copeland is instantly reminded of the crime committed against Josie Stratton. Zach was just a rookie on the perimeter of that case, but he's never forgotten the traumatized woman with the haunted eyes.
As more information emerges, the crimes take on an even more sinister similarity. But Josie's attacker died by suicide. Does the city have a copycat on its hands? A killer who picked up where the original perpetrator left off? Or are they facing something far more insidious?
Josie has spent the last eight years attempting to get her life back on track, but now there's a very real chance she could be the unknown suspect's next target. As Zach vows to keep her safe, and Josie finds herself responding to him in a way she hasn't responded to any man in almost a decade, the investigation takes on an even more complex edge of danger.
As past and present collide, Josie and Zach are thrust toward a shocking and chilling truth. A revelation that threatens not only Josie's life, but everything she's been fighting so desperately to reclaim.

If you like a good Suspense/Thriller...
... this is the book for you!
This book is spellbinding! I couldn’t stop listening once I hit play. The writing style is excellent, the characters are likable (most of them) and believable and the plot is actually quite unique. I would go into the storyline but the publisher’s summary gives more than enough information, almost too much. There are some surprising twists that I didn’t see coming and the ending is close to impossible to figure out until it’s revealed.
Be warned, there are some graphic assault scenes which can be difficult to listen to and might offend some people.
The narration is excellent and the two narrators worked very well together.
This book has my HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION.

Mixed feelings with this one.....
Ok, all in all, this was a good book.
I am going to be very much in the minority here though......
While this was a great story, very original story line, the writing was amateurish at times. I even looked to see when it was published, figuring it was one of her earlier books. No, it is only a month or so old at the time of this review.
The romance was WEIRD. I just didn't feel the love. At all. And they were both spouting "i love you" left and right. The sex scenes just made me uncomfortable.
While i liked how the situation with the child was wrapped up, the rest was just all over the place. Being raped repeatedly in an over 9 month period didn't cure Josie of being the promiscuous woman that got her in the mess she was in to begin with. I mean, who jumps into a relationship like she did without having some kind of reservations? She should have carried MAJOR insecure baggage. I just didn't care for either of the main characters.
I'm glad others loved this book though. Not every book is written for every person.
I more than likely won't be listening to any more of Ms. Sheridan's books. Because i obviously can't trust reviews. Pretty much all of them are 4 and 5 *s with the exception of the woman who didn't like all of the F-bombs.
The narrators were good. I liked the male, Teddy Hamilton a lot but the female was whiny at times.
Please, don't let my review sway you from trying this book. I hate book bashing and hope that is not what i am doing but the reviews and the book i just listened to don't match up at all.

Loved it..
This was a really good murder mystery. About Josie who was kidnapped and held for 10 months and suffered from rape and cold and starvation and being fixed to the wall in chains.
Josie had already escaped, and 8 years had passed when the bodies of more women were discovered, and the police went to talk to her about the similarities and decided she had to have protection. Which was Zach’s job. Anyway, they fell in love and she had healed somewhat and the made love and she was tense and nervous, until she wasn’t.
It was an enjoyable book and I did like Josie and Zach, as well as Zach’s partner Jimmy. And I do have to admit I was thoroughly surprised at who the killer was. Never saw that coming.
There was explicit sex and the F-bomb was used 44 times.
As to the narration: I thought Teddy Hamilton and Callie Dalton did a fantastic job on the voices.

This was my second time listening, I needed to refresh before listening to the next book in the series. I am glad I re-listened because I didn't remember all the details I thought helped me understand book 2 better. I loved it maybe even more the 2nd time around. Josie is a great character, she is stronger than she knows and Zach knows it which makes them work so well for me. This book was so suspenseful and had so many great twists and turns, I think I changed my mind about what was going on at least 10 times. I hope Mia Sheridan continues to write Thrillers with a perfect side of romance.
The narration was exceptional but honestly Teddy Hamilton is my favorite male narrator so I knew it would be great. He and Callie Dalton work very well together.

One of my Top 3 Audios of 2019!!
Oh My Heavens... my heart! My heart just could not handle the pain during the last few hours of the audiobook. Ughh... it isn't very often where I struggle with what I want to happen but I struggled. I felt bitterness and my heart ACHED. Mia Sheridan was playing hacky sack with my heart and I'm sure she's a beginner because she dropped it so many times. I had about an hour left and I wanted so badly to devour that last hour but I had to stop and take a break. My heart hurt so much and I couldn't pinpoint how I wanted things to go down. I'll tell ya strait... Mia Sheridan had me a bit scared that I was going to be spending that last hour crying my eyes out. I did. I spent the last hour with tears streaming down my face at 1 am when I should have been sleeping. I regret nothing.
The narration was better than I could have imagined. I've enjoyed Callie Dalton's previous narrations but I feel like she really did something special with this book. Her narration was spot on. I felt the turmoil and the pain, boy did I feel that pain. It wasnt Ms. Sheridan's words alone that had my heart accelerating but the voices reading to me, the voices giving the story a heartbeat. Teddy Hamilton was also at the top of his game. There is nothing I would change or alter about this narration. They gave the characters a literal voice and I can't imagine it any better than it was!
Bravo to everyone involved!! I can't wait to see what's next for Mia Sheridan even if my hearts a bit scared of her currently.

Kidnapped, held captive, and escaped
he’s the victim of a heinous crime who’s been thrust back into a situation that could become dangerous for her. Josie survived after being held captive for almost a year. Eight years later Josie rebuilds her life trying to move forward. More young girls are kidnapped just like she was. Josie grows concerned that a copycat is on the loose and possibly after her.
Narrators:
Duel Performance by both narrators.
Teddy Hamilton was the voice of Zach. The entire time I listened to him perform I pictured the man who was the voice in the Twilight Zone tv show. He had that same eerie story telling voice.
Callie Dalton was the voice of Josie. Her performance was good for the role of Josie. However, her performance for the role of Zach wasn’t great. It’s kinda confusing identifying Zach’s character from both narrators. I already have in my head how Zach sounds from listening to Teddy perform him then listening to Callie give a different sound and tone that doesn’t line up was weird.
Together they brought this story to life even with all its contradicting emotions.
Overall:
I was pleased that the story hadn’t gone into the details of Josie’s ordeal, until it did. I could have done without those chapters labeled “before”. Part of why I would’ve preferred skipping over her kidnapping was because of the nature of the abuse she suffered. I felt the information was embellished and inaccurate. What Josie endured was tragic, yet the way she survived was not feasible. I hate to be the one to point out the obvious, but a person who is bedridden for nine months will encounter many complications such as loss of muscle strength and endurance. Contractures, osteoporosis from disuse and the degeneration of joints. Being confined to bed can add to the likelihood of developing an increased heart rate, decreased cardiac output, hypotension, and thromboembolism. Josie’s character suffered none of these complications or at least none were mentioned.
Mia Sheridan had an a great premise and concept. I loved all the twists and turns. Unfortunately, I didn’t like the delivery of these details. These revelations didn’t give me the chills I had hoped for upon the big reveal. Josie’s character was too matter of fact in dealing with the situation, lacking the emotional turmoil that would lend me to believe this had affected her. Her character had that “it is what it is” vibe. I didn’t find Josie’s character traumatized by her kidnapping, rape, or abuse. In fact, I found her ability to persevere amazing. Zach kept stating how impressed he was with her strength and bravery, yet I kept thinking no way would she function so easily after what she endured without some form of counseling or therapy.
She progressed so well after her incident that I would venture to believe it never happened since she showed no traumatic signs of emotional trauma.
There were too many contradictions in this story regarding Josie’s character.

This book kept me griped to the story from the very beginning. Extremely well written and emotional. I was afraid that I wasn't going to like it in the beginning but it kept moving and I became entangled in the story. I find Ms Sheridans stories enthralling. The narration by Teddy Hamilton and Callie Dalton was perfect and only added to the story. GREAT JOB Mia on the book and narrator choice!

I can easily say this is one of the best books I have listened to this year. My other favorite is also by this author. I love how this book contained mystery, various conflicts (internal and external struggles), and overall kept me captivated the whole time. The development and the growth of the characters was well done. This book is a wow. Must read or listen to. It will hold you in suspense.

Great romantic suspense and murder mystery!!!
I really loved this audiobook. It’s not often I can find a goos romantic suspense and this one was a murder mystery too. I couldn’t put it down and listened non-stop until it was done. So good! I really hope there is another in the series w/ Jimmy and rain perhaps!

Excellent Thriller
This is the first book I have read by this Author and it definitely won't be the last.
The story was excellent, well written with very well drawn out characters.
Highly recommended and can't wait to read #2!

Gripping and all-consuming
I’m completely blown away by this story and narration. It was exactly what I needed to drag me out of my book funk.
The story telling by Mia Sheridan was incredible with a plot that moved between the past and present and had the right balance of suspense and thrill. Yes there was a few minor things that seemed a little too far fetched but all in all I was thoroughly engrossed with the story
This is a dark and gritty story but it was heartfelt- so much that I felt the aching heaviness in my heart. That plot twist did throw me!
This audiobook is so worth the credit and even though I know the outcome I will still re-listen to this at another time.

🎧 Zac and Josie 🎧
Strong, well developed characters and credible storyline.
Dual timeline romantic suspense, with third person POV and dual narration. Differing pronunciation of a key latin phrase was a bit distracting, but overall very well delivered.

Enjoyed this Romance Thriller
This was the first time I'd listened to this author and really enjoyed this book. loving both thrillers and romance it was a perfect mix. a few twists and turns although some predictable. Having said that wasn't expecting what happened to the serial killer at the end. I was left feeling a bit disappointed but still a good book. Great narrators too.

Boring
Struggled to finish, predictable. Wanted to finish so I didn't have to listen anymore. 🙁

Average read. Good story but
far toouch repetitive description of how amazingly strong the main character is. Very simplistic and idealistic characters

Intriguing if a little cheesy
Good story with enough to keep me guessing throughout. I picked many parts of the twist, but wasn’t certain of details which is always good!
Warning: the way it’s written is super cheesy. I literally rolled my eyes and laughed out loud at some of the descriptions and language. The voice actors added to this. They picked the manliest man and the most waif-like woman. It would have been better (story and acting) if everything was a little more subtle. If the you can get past that cheese, it’s a fun listen :)

Cliches abound
From the impossibly beautiful yet damaged heroine, to the impossibly handsome yet strong and wholesome hero, this book is one cliche after another.

Ok - nothing special.
The story was entertaining enough but nothing special. No amazing twists or memorable characters.
I found the tone of the male narrator gratingly sarcastic and their main character's emotions somewhat unbelievable. Especially as someone who has gone through traumatic experiences myself.
Some people may find this content confronting.

Superb
A riveting story of obsession and revenge which had me on the edge of my seat, with twists and red herrings until the last page. I will definitely be looking for more books from this author.
