Publisher's Summary

From best-selling author Susannah Charleson comes an important and heartfelt exploration into the world of lost dogs and the power of reunion.

One in six dogs go missing at some point in their lives, leaving bereft owners to search high and low, hang missing posters, check shelters, and hope for good news. But amid these grim statistics, countless happy endings are forged. Tails wag again. Best friends are reunited.

In Where the Lost Dogs Go, Susannah Charleson, author of Scent of the Missing and a trusted chronicler of the human-animal bond, dives headlong into the world of missing dogs. The mission to reunite lost pets with their families starts with Susannah's own shelter rescue dog, Ace, a plucky Maltese mix with a mysterious past who narrowly survived months wandering lost. While Susannah formally studies animal behavior, lost pet search tactics, social media strategies, and the psychology of loss, Ace also steps up for training. Cheerful and resourceful, Ace has revealed a nose for the scent of lost pets, and together they help neighbors and strangers in their searching.

In Where the Lost Dogs Go, listeners take to the streets beside Susannah to bring home a host of missing pets. Along the way, Susannah finds a part of herself also lost. And when unexpected heartbreak shatters her own sense of direction, it is Ace - the shelter dog that started it all - who leads Susannah home.

Inquisitive, instructive, heartrending, and hopeful, Where the Lost Dogs Go pays tribute to the missing dogs - and to the found - and to the restless space in between.

For Dog Lovers Everywhere

I love this author's books and could not wait for this one to become available. Susannah Charleson narrates her own books and does an excellent job of it, so you don't need to worry. I can't imagine anyone doing a better job.

One of the author's previous books involved the search and rescue of people using dogs. This one takes it one step further, as it covers search and rescue of lost pets--again, often using trained dogs to assist in the process.

Ever lost your dog? There is much to know about having a successful outcome. There are things you may consider helpful that might assure you never find your dog again! If you are a dog owner (or even a cat owner), this book could be immensely helpful if your pet becomes lost. There are, for starters, simple things you really need to know. Listen to this audiobook and find out.

Susannah talks alot about her own dogs. Her love shines through. Any dog that takes up residence in her home is one lucky dog, indeed. And your dogs will also be lucky when you get this listen!

Searching...

As a SAR k-9 handler in the North Texas area, I have walked, and searched some of the same streets that Ms. Charleson does in this book.

This book brings to light the realities and complexities of losing and searching for, lost pets. The story is well written and well narrated, with only the unique style Ms. Charleson brings to her work. I can't say anything more about this book other than having been a SAR handler since 1998, I am constantly surprised by the author's adventures and descriptions.

After reading this book, I have taken some of the recommendations to heart and prepared for the eventual wandering of one of my dogs. Even though we think our pets want to be with us, and even though we do our best to ensure they do not stray, "They don't wander until they do."

I highly recommend this read and the other two books by the author. This is a great book for dog and cat lovers alike... Just make sure you have a big ol' box of tissues handy as you listen, and maybe a dog or cat or two to snuggle while you cry.

Engaging and honest...

These stories of love, loss and the amazing connection between beings just kept drawing me in. I was jealous of distractions, and had to listen, deeply, again. Susannah is a great storyteller, and offers insight and honesty with the telling. I was so sorry to reach the end.

Great story and advice!

The stories were interesting and held my attention. The author gives wonderful advice on ways to rescue a lost dog or cat because like humans animals have different personalities too. I would recommend this book to an animal lover.

So sad this is the last book!!

I love everything she has written. You’re there searching with her, interacting with pet owners. I love the story telling approach, not just read accounts of searches she has done. And her voice!! I’ve gone to sleep many nights with that soothing, calm voice. I know how she felt about not being there with Puzzle,it guts you. Susannah is one of my most favorite people.

Couldn't love more!

So glad I came across this author in Audible. Loved her writing and the excellent job of narrating she did. Of course, loved Puzzle too. Being from Texas I liked recognizing places that are mentioned.

She just seems like someone I would like to hang out with. I wish I'd known about her books years ago, they are inspirational to me. Hope to see more from her in the future.

I'm starting my second time around of listening to all her books as there is much to learn.

Great narration

This book is poignant and informative. Really a joy to spend the time on this journey into animal rescues, and stories of her parents.
Books narrated by their author can be wonderful, think Elisabeth Elliot, or awful. Susanna Charleston is wonderful.
