When wilderness guide Harper Ward is summoned to the small town sheriff's office in Helena Springs, Montana, to provide assistance on a case, she is shocked to find that their only suspect in the double murder investigation is a man described as a savage. But the longer she watches the man known only as Lucas, on the station surveillance camera, the more intrigued she becomes. He certainly looks primitive with his unkempt appearance and animal skin attire, but she also sees intelligence in his eyes, sensitivity in his expression. Who is he?

Once, I was nothing. Hungry, abandoned, wandering, and alone. An adolescent street rat fighting for crumbs. Then a chance encounter changed my entire world. A man in an expensive suit asked me how much my life was worth. I didn't have an answer because I didn't know. He asked if I thought it was worth killing for. Impulsively, I said yes.... Publisher's Summary
When the director of a local mental health hospital is found murdered and mutilated, Homicide Detective Reed Davies is first on scene. What was done to the body is gruesome. Inexplicable. But Reed is dealt another curveball when he finds that the doctor who discovered the victim is someone Reed is intimately familiar with - a woman with whom he shared one passionate night weeks before.
Dr. Elizabeth Nolan is somehow tangled up in the crime, and even while Reed must now question her possible involvement, he can’t help being drawn to the beautiful, enigmatic woman.
As more bodies appear and the devious killer terrorizes Cincinnati, a shocking connection begins to emerge, one that not only involves Dr. Nolan, but Reed himself. A connection more twisted and elaborate than he can imagine. Now Reed must hunt the monster down, a killer who will stop at nothing to see his diabolical plan to its final, deadly conclusion.
The follow-up to Where the Blame Lies - Where the Truth Lives is a gripping, pause-resisting, romantic thriller that will leave you gasping for breath.

Very intense suspense thriller!
WHERE THE TRUTH LIES is a sequel to Where the Blame Lies by Mia Sheridan. I recommend the earlier novel be listened to first although the current novel is set a generation later. Both novels have intense suspense even though the protagonists are different. The protagonists in Where the Blame Lies were Josie Stratton and Zach Copeland. They are years older in Where the Truth Lies and are very much part of the story. Josie's son Reed Davies and his giorlfriend Liza Noland are the protagonists of Where the Truth Lives.
Be aware that this novel has strong elements of a romance novel including graphic sex scenes.
The same narration duo returns from Where the Blane Lies. They do a great job.

I loved this book as much as the first book in the series. I had no idea what a book 2 would be like and who the main characters would be but when it started I was so happy to have Reed's story. I felt like getting his story helped with a little closure into book 1 and where things left off between him and Josie.
I really like these strong characters that Mia Sheridan creates and I also thoroughly enjoy the push and pull that she does with the mystery that keeps making me change my mind about who is doing what. This book kept me on my toes the entire way though and I thought the ending was perfect. I also really enjoyed how together these characters are considering their past. I don't love drama so this was perfect for my taste. I can't wait for more romantic suspense by this author in the future.
It's no surprise to me but again I loved the narration. Teddy has the perfect voice for a good guy and he was perfect for Reed. Callie was also great.

Trashy at times
The abuse in the first chapter was disgusting. Skip it. The romantic dialogue was laughable. The story was good but hardly worth the laughable parts. Didn’t realize this was a ‘romance’ novel. Wish the author had stick to the good mystery parts.

Good crime fiction with a side of meh romance
Enjoyable Audible version of a police procedural/serial murder story with a complicated plot and good subplots. The narrators are superb, but there’s only so much they can do with the cliched romance clinging to the crime fiction.
The crime fiction features a surfeit of serial killers, so more suitable settings would be a megalopolis like NYC or a mega-region like LA—either likelier to have several active and retired serial killers. Instead it’s set in Cincinnati, which has a population of about 300,000, and worse, the author treats it as Any City, USA, instead of setting-as-character.
The interwoven romance subplot brims with bog-standard cliches. I don’t enjoy insta-love/insta-sex; overly predictable love plots; and indecisive, wimpy women. Detective Reed Davies needs a stronger, smarter, and more decisive love interest, so the romance plot might complement the murder mystery. As is, the murder mystery is bold and gritty, but the romance is soft and squishy.
Overall, 3 stars.

5 AMAZING Stars!!!
I absolutely loved it! It’s a little different from my normal listens but Mia Sheridan always hits it out of the park! I had just finished Where the Blame Lies and couldn’t wait to start Where the Truth Lives. I love a good mystery but hate when you can guess it by the ending. This is absolutely not one of those books. Callie Dalton and Teddy Hamilton did a fantastic job narrating! Their performances along with the storyline had me so hooked I couldn’t put it down until I had finished it.

Riveting!
If you buy this, it will keep at least one ear bud in so that you can quickly hit the play icon whenever possible. Don’t listen as a bed time story. A good story can be ruined or made better with great narrators and both male and female voices added the right tone for this book. For those of us who had extreme mental and physical abuse during their childhood will relate to walking on the this fence. This book brings to light the horrors of that walk. The good and bad outcomes.

Another superb follow up!
After reading "Where the Blame Lies" I dove right in to this book. It's very seldom that an author has a follow up that is equally as great as the first book in a series--Mia Sheridan absolutely delivered! While this is a follow up it can be heard alone, but trust me-you'll want to listen to the first book as it helps to build upon the intrigue.
Liza and Reed are fantastic characters, the narrators did an awesome job. The story was brilliant, Mia Sheridan is incredible at weaving people and events together. I loved coming to know the man Reed became and seeing the son and big brother he developed into. Liza was an awesome and complicated woman (with good reason to be), the moment she triumphed over her fears was so well written.
The ending!! I can't say much or I'd given it away--who saw that coming??? Fantastic!
Another great from the Audible Plus Catalog!

Not a fan of this one. Grotesque.
This is the first Mia Sheridan book I've listened to that seems so unlike the others. The characters lacked continuity and the chemistry was absent.Too grotesque; skipped many sections. Normally a Mia Sheridan book makes me ponder life; this one brought on feelings of needing to take a shower and rid myself of the vileness. I couldn't find the meaning of this book. Books usually have a message...but I couldn't find it in this one. It was murky. And there weren't any relationships that seemed genuine; father/daughter; male/female; brother/sister...they were so disjointed. I wasn't invested in the storyline or the characters.
