Publisher's Summary

Lieutenant Jacqueline "Jack" Daniels is having a bad week. Her live-in boyfriend has left her for his personal trainer, chronic insomnia has caused her to max out her credit cards with late-night home shopping purchases, and a frightening killer who calls himself "The Gingerbread Man" is dumping mutilated bodies in her district.

While avoiding the FBI and its moronic profiling computer, joining a dating service, mixing it up with street thugs, and parrying the advances of an uncouth PI, Jack and her binge-eating partner, Herb, must catch the maniac before he kills again...and Jack is next on his murder list.

Whiskey Sour is the first book in the bestselling Jack Daniels series, full of laugh-out-loud humor and edge-of-your-seat suspense.

Crack another case with Jacqueline "Jack" Daniels.

Critic Reviews

Dual voices add considerable interest to this debut novel....The production's conversations sound more like those of a radio play than a reading, and one gets the feeling that both actors are having fun. This is a fine series opener." ( AudioFile)

Like the book but GRAPHIC details

This is book one in a series about a detective named Jack Daniels (female) who works in the homicide unit of the Chicago Police Force. Some of the chapters are written from the point of view of Jack and then others from the point of view of the serial killer.

Jack has a partner named Herb who provides some comic relief. The two main characters are likable and I enjoyed the story but the details of the serial murders are VERY GRAPHIC. Before I downloaded the book I had read that in reviews and thought I had heard it all as I have watched shows like Criminal Minds, CSI etc and read some true crime novels but this truly tops those by far. I was listening to this in my car on the way home one night and found myself saying OMG more than once. When I got home I got freaked out just walking by my closet in the dark (if you have read the book you will understand this).
It makes me wonder what goes on in the mind of the author that he comes up with the murder details that he does - if I was his wife I might be concerned...
So if you are a little squeamish about some of the things you have seen on tv or movies you might want to think twice before downloading.

If you like Evonavich you will like this series.

This is the first book in the series and I am hooked! After listening to this book, I purchased the whole set.

I like that Jack(Jackie)Daniels is a little older and wiser. She is a 50 something cop with many years under her belt yet can get into some interesting situations.

The narrator dose a good job with the different voices and is easy to listen to.

Not funny;Warning gory details.

I had read a previous review indicating that this author was similar to Evanovich so I downloaded the entire series to listen to while traveling.

Unfortunately, while the stories are good, there are gory details that would come out of the blue and were very disturbing.

Didn't find anything worth giggling about. Story slow to develop.

Sorry I bought this book

I was expecting this to be similar to Evanovich's books. It is not. The very first chapter was so graphically violent that my friend refused to hear any more. I listened to the rest of it, but hated it. Any humor in the book is drowned out by the sadistic killing of the victims.

Whiskey Sour

This one wasn't as good as the others in this series, but I like Jack's sense of humor and her sweets-addicted partner. It got some chuckles out of me.The way the male and female voices are separated is a nice touch, which makes the book easy to stay into for long periods.

Follow the characters

What made the experience of listening to Whiskey Sour the most enjoyable?

The actors reading the story are excellent. The story is bloody but since in context it does not feel real it did not bother me.

Who was your favorite character and why?

All of them mesh well together

Any additional comments?

A great addition to the series

First book in the Jacqueline 'Jack' Daniels series

The narrators are the best thing about this audio novel. I'm not a fan of Joe (J. A.) Konrath, especially his horror novels. This detective series is, however, a quick and worthwhile listen when I have nothing better to listen to. Later novels in the series do a much better job of developing Jack's character. I gave up on the series when Dick Hill was no longer the narrator. Hill narrates books 1 - 7 in the series. With Kindle Unlimited the audio novels in the Jacqueline 'Jack' Daniels Mystery series are very inexpensive.

A Refreshing Take on Murder Mysteries

Would you consider the audio edition of Whiskey Sour to be better than the print version?

I never read the print version but I'm certain the audio is better. Konrath writes his novels with the audio book in mind. His characters are so much better when brought to life. He is the only novelist I have listened to that uses effects with the voices. I also like that multiple voices read in the same chapter when having a conversation, this is so unique compared to all other audio books I have listened to.

Who was your favorite character and why?

In the first novel, I enjoyed listening to the killer....he was quite psychotic!

Which character – as performed by Susie Breck and Dick Hill – was your favorite?

I enjoy Jack but also Harry. All the characters are great! Susie and Dick are the best!!

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

How can you beat the tagline already?

Any additional comments?

I found this series by accident and I'm so glad I did. I love listening to murder mysteries but lately they have all been so similar and bland. The Jack Daniels series is refreshing and its renewed my love of the genre. I'll be bummed when I finish them all.

Whiskey Sour

The voices of the narrator in this book bothered me and just when I was getting over that, the candy was found in her car and...I decided it wasn't a book I would finish. I was looking for something "fluffy" and while this wasn't exactly "meaty", it was a little more graphic than what I was looking for.

Fun group of characters (the 'good guys' that is)

I first listened to "Shaken" which keeps flashing back in Jack Daniels life. It really sparked an interest to know more about these characters and their history, so I went back to this book and started the series. Jack and company are an interesting and colorful lot, with many little humorous quirks that makes the story so interesting.
The Gingerbread man is a creepy soul that really puts the suspense into the story and catching him is the whole plot, but the character development from the supporting cast is why I will go forward with these books.

Gripping, amusing and a read I will definitely recommend

The story line was clever and the author had my emotions ebbing and flowing. Moving back and forth from, tension, and anxiety to relief, humour and dialogue that played its part with every character.
I normally read Patterson or Deaver, the later holding number one position. Now I can say there is, in my opinion within this genre a new number two!

Whisky sour

What a cracker of a book loved jack and co , the narration is very good although I prefer the male over the female voice found her quite stilted not natural or flowing as she narrates but having said that can't recommend this book enough.

Very Violent

I bought this audiobook expecting a cosy mystery - it is not, it is very violent in places and deals with torture. It is really well written, the characters are interesting, and the narration is fantastic, but I won’t be listening to more books in this series.
