Publisher's Summary

A captivating debut novel about brothers who have drifted apart and the accident that will determine their future, written by an unforgettable new voice in fiction.

Some twins communicate in a secret language all their own. For Whiskey and Charlie Ferns, the two-way alphabet (alpha, bravo, charlie, delta) whispered back and forth over their crackly walkie-talkies is the best they can do. But as the brothers grow up, they grow apart. Whiskey is everything Charlie is not - bold, daring, carefree - and Charlie blames his brother for always stealing the limelight, always striving ahead while seeming to push Charlie back. By the time the twins reach adulthood, they are barely even speaking to each other.

When Charlie hears that Whiskey has been in a terrible accident and has slipped into a coma, he is shocked...although perhaps not devastated. But as days and weeks slip by, and the chances of Whiskey's recovering grow ever more slim, Charlie is forced to look back on their lives and examine whether Whiskey's actions were truly as unforgivable as Charlie believed them to be.

Selected it for the narrator, listened for the story

I came to admire Gildart Jackson while listening to him narrate the DC Smith books by Peter Grainger. I found this title while searching for another Jackson narration. Not a British detective mystery but sounded interesting. An authentic rendering of family dynamics with twin brothers at the center. Immediately engaging. Worth s credit and then some.

Great story of two brothers and their fight to regain a long lost relationship

This book tells the story of a rivalry between twin brothers, their bitter estrangement and the accident that left one brother in a coma and the other regretting their past and praying for a doubtful reconciliation.

Rarely do I cry with emotion…

Rarely do I cry with emotion as I read or listen to a book, but this one did it! I loved this book, and I will recommend it to both my daughters who, I know, will appreciate its humor, its depth, the very tender story! I know I will not forget it among the huge lists of books that I listen to, and even the many that I enjoy… “Whiskey and Charley” will certainly stand out in my memory!

Reinforces any familial bond!

Entertaining story line. Captures every emotion at some point in the story, but I mostly recall smiling to myself throughout. Thoroughly enjoyed each character individually and their relationships with each other. Pleasant surprise for an Audible Plus selection!!

Excellent story

So nicely done. From the writing of the story to the narration. There is so much going on for Charlie - his relationships with his brother, parents, best friend, girlfriend, extended family, bonus family and the most important relationships - himself. Very well done! Bravo! I truly love this story.
