Publisher's Summary

Academy award-winning actress, producer, and entrepreneur Reese Witherspoon invites you into her world, where she infuses the Southern style, parties, and traditions she loves with contemporary flair and charm.

Reese Witherspoon’s grandmother Dorothea always said a combination of beauty and strength made Southern women “whiskey in a teacup”. We may be delicate and ornamental on the outside, she said, but inside, we’re strong and fiery.

Reese’s Southern heritage informs her whole life, and she loves sharing the joys of Southern living with practically everyone she meets. She takes the South wherever she goes with bluegrass, big holiday parties, and plenty of Dorothea’s fried chicken. It’s reflected in how she entertains, decorates her home, and makes holidays special for her kids - not to mention how she talks, dances, and does her hair (in this audiobook, you will learn Reese’s fail-proof, only slightly insane hot-roller technique). Reese loves sharing Dorothea’s most delicious recipes as well as her favorite Southern traditions, from midnight barn parties to backyard bridal showers, magical Christmas mornings to rollicking honky-tonks.

It’s easy to bring a little bit of Reese’s world into your home, no matter where you live. After all, there’s a Southern side to every place in the world, right?

Nashville Native

As a Nashville native, I was delighted and proud to identify with many of Reese’s stories, places, and experiences. Most inspiring and charming, were the heartfelt tales of her grandmother.

This book was an unexpected jewel!

Such a let down!

I wanted to love this! I am a huge fan of Reese, but this book should have been condensed into a 2 page interview in People Magazine or US Weekly. It has no depth, no real substance, and she narrates in a fake, forced-happiness that comes off as SO phony. You know the overly-bubbly way Elle Woods talks in Legally Blonde? That's what you're going to get with this book. It was such a disappointment!

Not Fun Or Informative If You're Southern

This is just a handbook for someone who wants to be Southern. She talks about the culture and traditions, and I'm not saying she's wrong, I'm just saying everything she's discussing is super basic; if you're from the South, you know it already.
The book wasn't what I was expecting and I was bored.

Lighthearted... yet predictable and clichéd

I really wanted to love this book!! Seriously. I love a good, uplifting story and I think Reese is great. However, if you're from the South, you've probably heard most of these anecdotes and stories before. In fact, some of the tales sound like they're out of Central Casting for Steel Magnolias or Designing Women. Also, the book is really less of a story and more of a non-fluent string of random odds and ends that read more like an etiquette book for relatively privileged people. Overall, it's ok. I really like that the author shared the PDF with all the recipes, etc. I know my opinion isn't a popular one, but I feel these reviews should be honest. I hope others got more out of this book than I did.

Just OK

I think I am probably the only person who thought the book was JUST OK. Reese's reading of it was good but the book it self just fell flat for me.

Great Home Sweet Home story. PROBLEM No .pdf came

Home Sweet Home - growing up in the South. Light, happy airy. Easy read. Unfortunately, the accompanying. .pdf file didn't download with the book the way it should have. All 20 chapters refer you to the .pdf file for recipes, etc. I contacted Audible.com concerning this glitch.

If you love the south, you’ll love this book!

I could listen to several more hours of this book! Reese is captivating, charming, and so down to earth. I resonated so deeply with many of her sentiments and loved her style of sharing them. Definitely one of my favorite reads/listens of the year, and I can’t wait to try out some of her recipes. Thank you Reese for making all the print resources available for the audible listeners-great insight and consideration!

A Handbook to the South

I’ve always been a huge fan of Reese Witherspoon. This lovely book, with insights into her family history made her even more endearing. Enjoyed Ms Witherspoon’s explanation of her Southern heritage and the traditions that she continues.
