Story
I didn’t notice her before... but now I do. Once I focus on her, I can’t take my eyes from my newest obsession. I need to know everything about her. Her past. Her present. The way she takes her coffee. Exactly how she smells after a spritz of perfume in the mornings. I notice the organized way she arranges her clothes in her closet. How she visits the same market each Saturday. The sounds of her breathing as I lie beneath her bed in silence. Violet is mine. She just doesn’t know it yet.

I'm a freak, a misfit, an odd end. Abandoned and unloved. But my happiness is so close I can taste it. Until he shows up. Gorgeous, expensive, and all man. Sad brown eyes and a brilliant smile. And he wants me to go with him. His intentions are hidden. His motives are unclear. Yet I leave with him because there's no happiness here. What he promises feels too good to be true.... A castle. Triple Falls wasn’t at all what it seemed, nor were the men that swept me under their wing. But in order to keep them, I had to be in on their secrets. Secrets that cost us everything to keep. That’s the novelty of fiction versus reality. You can’t re-live your own love story, because by the time you’ve realized you’re living it, it’s over. At least that was the case for me and the men I trusted my foolish heart to. Looking back, I’m convinced I willed my story into existence, due to my illness, and all were punished.

She was my first love. She was my first hate. The very sun in my world tried to burn me alive with her lies and cruelty. Until I dimmed her light for good.... Or so I thought. Now she’s back. Cracked. Broken. Lost. And for the first time in a long time, I feel free. Free from our past. Free from my present that suffocates me. Free to destroy her future. Her misery is my music. Thrilling. Invigorating. Intoxicating. For so long, all I’ve done is hate her. So why do I love her?

Javier Estrada is the king of Mexico. Evil. Twisted. Psychopathic. A cruel madman with a killer smile. And he is my boss. My duty is to blend in, clean his home, and not make a peep. I’ve done my job well for years. I've embedded myself so deep in his world, he’s never going to get me out. But I am this king’s worst nightmare. Bad men like him took everything away from me. I will never forget. He will pay for the sins of many. I’ll just bide my time - watching, waiting, calculating - until the time is right. When I strike, he won’t know what hit him.

They are not people you mess with, yet my dad did. The old man ran up a debt with them and then sold me to cover his losses. Yes, sold me. They own me now. I’m theirs in every sense of the word. The stories were all wrong—Hook was never the villain. For two centuries, all of the Darling women have disappeared on their 18th birthday. Sometimes they’re gone for only a day, some a week or a month. But they always return broken. Now, on the afternoon of my 18th birthday, my mother is running around the house making sure all the windows are barred and the doors locked. But it’s pointless. Because when night falls, he comes for me. And this time, the Never King and the Lost Boys aren’t willing to let me go.

My future is a big ‘what if’ at the moment and I’m fine with that. For the most part. When Thayer Holmes moves in next door, the grumpy landscaper both fascinates and amuses me. When he asks me to nanny his kid, it’s a great way to make some extra money. It’s impossible not to fall in love with Thayer and his adorable son. There’s a big problem though. I’m eighteen. He’s thirty-one. Falling for someone almost fifteen years older than me wasn’t part of my plans, but sometimes things happen when you least expect them.

There’s something uglier that has been haunting me for years upon years. So ugly that I have never seen its face. I never had to. I’d hear his whispers through my internal screams, feel his shadow brush against my nightmares. He was my monster that tormented me. And maybe lived under your bed.... When I started Midnight Mayhem, his presence faded. His whispers were silenced. His shadow dissolving without a trace. I wondered why that was.

Am I friends with JP Cane? Ha! That's laughable. Besides the fact that he’s adopted some far-fetched notion from the movie When Harry Met Sally that says men and women can't be friends and work together, it’s safe to say we're not friends. He's annoyingly loud, obnoxiously handsome, and has made an art out of poking all my hot buttons...multiple times a day. So you can imagine how disgruntled I am when I not only have to fly to San Francisco with him for work, but stay in the same penthouse. Yup, we're sharing the same air, 24-7. We're talking full-fledged working roommates.

Story
I was a good girl. I ate my vegetables, volunteered at the local autism centre, and sat in the front pew of church every Sunday. Then, I got cancer. What the hell kind of reward was that for a boring life well lived? I was a 17-year-old paradigm of virtue, and I was tired of it. So, when I finally ran into the man I'd been writing to since he saved my life as a little girl and he offered to show me the dark side of life before I left it for good, I said yes.

Three months on a private island. Two men. One million dollars. All I have to do is tame Nash Wilde. It’s been two years since my sister and her boyfriend were killed in a plane crash. The last person I expected to show up on my doorstep was his father, Alistair Wilde. Yet, he came with an offer I’d be an idiot to pass up: be his son’s girlfriend for three months, live with the two of them in a remote house, and the one million dollars is mine.

Publisher's Summary
This standalone is best enjoyed when you don't read any reviews or spoilers. Going in blind is best. Trust me.
When my eyes are closed, the monster can't see me.
When I sing a song in my head, the monster can't hear me.
When I pretend my bedroom is a playground where I play hide-and-seek, the monster can't find me.
The darkness should frighten me.
I should worry I'll find more monsters...monsters scarier than him.
But I'm not afraid.
It's safe here.
When I'm inside of my head....
He. Can't. Ever. Touch. Me.
Warning: Whispers and the Roars is a dark romance. Strong sexual themes and violence, which could trigger emotional distress, are found in this story. The abuse written in this story is graphic and not glossed over, which could be upsetting to some. This story is not for everyone. Proceed with caution.

Wow that was a wild ride! I don't want to give any spoilers so I'm just going to say that in the beginning I was confused because I couldn't figure out what was going on but when it finally came together I had my suspicions and I was right but not to that extreme! Wow! But beware if you have triggers read some of the spoiler reviews first, if you don't have trigger issues go on blind, I think it made all the difference!
The narration was good, the female voice was a little to childish for me but they both did an awesome job on so many different voices!

ODD FOR SURE!
I was about to bail on this book, but I'm glad I didn't. It is definitely hard to get into until about half way and even more weird to hear on your car speakers on your work commute.
The story itself is interesting, but best to be read to oneself and not listened to. Not exactly erotica or very sexy to me, and the male characters could be better voiced but A for effort.

Incredible
I can’t really review this with details. I can say that when I did researched this book everything I read said do not read the reviews and just blindly read the book, and I wouldn’t be disappointed. They were so right. OMG I’ve never read a book so good before and at the same time heartbreaking.
Incredible writing, incredible character interactions, incredibly emotional. I have to say I started to guess the twist about a quarter of the way but even being right it blew my mind.
If your considering reading this book, read the author description first. Very hard read because of topic.
The narrators were a big part of making this book incredible. Great job. I can’t imagine it was an easy read, yet they did it gracefully.

All the other reviews were right.
I've been listening to some heavy love stories lately but this did them all to shame. I was so bored in the first half of this book, I won't lie. I thought I was getting something different from this book but I kept thinking about another book I read recently. I didn't realize I was right until it was put out there but I never would have guessed the extent of it. I had so many doubts about these characters and their intentions but when it was all brought out into the open, it totally changed how I felt about everyone involved. So many confusing moments that suddenly made sense... I almost quit the book and said forget it I'll read the spoilers but I'm glad that I didn't. I teared up toward the end... it was just beautiful. The love between these people is beautiful. It was very well done and I will probably listen to it again just to pay more attention to the parts when I was sort of bored because I didn't understand the importance of it all until so much later. This is definitely a book that needs to be read more than once to fully understand. Everyone was right, listen to it blindly with no bias, and listen to it closely.

I've given 2 stars because I have to appreciate it must have time to write it.
Wtf? This wasn't as good as I expected.. not even close. I sussed the "big plot twist" 30% in, so that was no shocker when confirmed. I got whiplash from the random back and forth in time which helps cover the big surprise (which isn't really a surprise if you're on it). I couldn't commit to the characters, they didn't draw me in at all. This one really wasn't for me. I forced myself to read it to the bitter end like enduring nails scraping on a blackboard.. argh! Done.. moving quickly on..

Overall a great story. The author recommends going in without reading spoilers and I absolutely agree it's necessary.
Some odd twists and turns and I kinda guessed where it was going but I think overall it was done well.
Lots of triggers including child abuse and rape, self harming, mental health issues and more.

Slow and repetitive
Slow moving, cringe worthy and repetitive. It felt like every second page was the same just in a different setting. The characters are constantly communicating in cringey dialogue and I got two thirds of the way through and gave up, I couldn't stick it out. I only really listened to get to the big twist, which was good but not exactly groundbreaking or shocking.
I can understand why some might like this, but this wasn't for me.

Not sure what the hype is about
The writing is average, the characters are shallow, some casual anti-asian racism sprinkled in here and there to really top it off. Please be aware that there is sexual violence towards children and incest in this book, no review i saw included this so be warned. Kylie Stewart wasn’t a bad narrator, but I couldn’t get into Eric Rolon as much, although the male protag in this instance was quite one dimensional so maybe it was more what he was narrating rather than how he was narrating it

Wow - that blew my mind
I’ve never read/ listened to anything like this. I thought the first half was a little slow and odd for a romance but whatever you do - don’t give up on this book. It is so clever.
