People with borderline or narcissistic personality disorders have a serious mental illness that primarily affects their intimate, personal, and family relationships. Often they appear to be normally functioning at work and in public interactions, and narcissists may even be highly effective, in the short term, in some work or social situations. However, in intimate relationships, they can be emotional, aggressive, demeaning, illogical, paranoid, accusing, and controlling - in the extreme.

Publisher's Summary
From a leading voice on recovering from toxic relationships, a deeply insightful guide to getting back to your "old self" again - in order to truly heal and move on.
Jackson MacKenzie has helped millions of people in their struggle to understand the experience of toxic relationships. His first book, Psychopath Free, explained how to identify and survive the immediate situation. In this highly anticipated new audiobook, he guides listeners on what to do next - how to fully heal from abuse in order to find love and acceptance for the self and others.
Through his work with thousands of survivors of abusive relationships, Jackson discovered that survivors frequently have symptoms of trauma lasting long after the relationship is over. These may include feelings of numbness and emptiness, depression, mood swings, isolation, perfectionism, rumination, caretaking and people-pleasing, a need for control, physical maladies, substance abuse, and more.
But he also found that it is possible to work through these symptoms and find fulfillment and love on the other side. In Whole Again, he shares insights and tools for working through the protective self we've developed so that we can finally move on to live a full and authentic life - to once again feel light, free, whole, and ready to give and receive love.
Like Brené Brown's The Gifts of Imperfection and John Bradshaw's Healing the Shame that Binds You, Whole Again offers hope and multiple strategies to anyone who has survived a toxic relationship, as well as anyone suffering the effects of a breakup involving lying, cheating, and other forms of abuse - to release old wounds and safely let the love back inside where it belongs.
Critic Reviews
“In Whole Again, Jackson MacKenzie lays open some of his own personal wounds to advise on how scars from past traumas can heal. He describes how development of a ‘protective self’ can provide acute, numbing relief from emotional pain, but at the expense of more enduring self-acceptance. MacKenzie addresses co-dependency, addiction, post-traumatic stress, and borderline, narcissistic, and other personality disorders, outlining pathways to achieve forgiveness and discharging shame. This book may help fill in the holes that can make you whole again.” (Jerold Kreisman, MD, co-author of I Hate You, Don’t Leave Me: Understanding the Borderline Personality)
"Jackson’s book is an empathetic gem of true knowing. Dismantling the effects of trauma can be a daunting undertaking. Whole Again is a compassionate guide. It takes your hand and encourages you to keep going, prompting you to build a power base of self-discovery that takes you home to yourself. All true healing happens within, which in turn offers you the miracle of hope." (Sarah Brassard, author of Inside: A Guide to the Resources Within to Stay Connected to Your Truth, Even in Trying Times)
"In Whole Again, Jackson MacKenzie has synthesized the important basic principles and tools of healing and writes in a style that is both warm and articulate. Whole Again offers a good starting point for those not yet ready for therapy or in conjunction with therapy. It is almost impossible to deal effectively on your own with the effects of trauma and abuse, but having a supportive community and using the simple tools in this book can help you begin the journey toward healing." (Stan Tatkin, PsyD, MFT, founder of A Psychobiological Approach to Couple Therapy® [PACT], and author of Wired for Love and We Do: Saying Yes to a Relationship of Depth, True Connection, and Enduring Love)

Kind of Dissappointed
I really liked Jackson MacKenzie's first book, "Psychopath Free," and so I bought this one. I found this book extremely confusing and upsetting. After listening to this book I feel my healing journey has been sort of derailed and my mind is now filled with self doubts. Moreover, the book is not interesting enough to hold my attention (this is hardly ever an issue for me) and I have to concluded that the material is unmistakably boring. This is surprising to me, since I'm positively obsessed with the subject. As I listened to this book, I've tried to figure out the meaning of each chapter, but there dosn't seem to be any concrete meaning. This book meanders and retraces repetitive circles, and sort of leads to nowhere. It also seems to defend narcissists and attack the victims of narcissistic abuse--indirectly blaming them for being blind to their problems and being unwilling to address the "numb feeling inside" that the author has not been able to resolve in himself either. I would not recommend this book to people seeking real advice for inner healing. It was well narrated though.

Good content, but to much repeat
It's not often I leave negative reviews & I apologize to the author,.
I honestly don't understand how it got so many great reviews. Don't get me wrong, the content was great and so was the narrator. However, the meat and potatoes could have been conveyed in a few hours, tops. It seemed the author consistently repeated the same points, just in a hundred different ways. If I want to drill content into my head, I would like the choice to do so.
I can summarize it here - if you want to heal chronic issues caused by an unhealed emotional trauma, then you should practice mindfulness. I feel the author psychoanalyzed the heck out of the wounded personality types in order to help the readers understand which type(s) they are. Also, so the readers can recognize which types they may be attracted to in order to avoid those types of wounded souls. Here are some (if not all) of the wounded personality types: the Codependent, Cluster B disorders (the Narcissist, the Borderline Personality), the Complex PTSD type, and the Avoidance type.
I wish the author dedicated more time explaining how to practice mindfulness with a some exercises to illustrate what he/she means by mindfulness. I wish it had its own section or chapter. I feel as though the author basically referred me to a couple of other books that went into greater detail about mindfulness.
The overall message was abundantly clear. However, it repeated so much that I became suspicious, wondering if the author provided filler in order to stretch out the length of the book (longer books are often sold at a higher price). I hope the author makes future amendments to add more original content, especially regarding mindfulness, and make the book more concise.

This is the book you have been looking for
Firstly, I am not one to leave reviews. And I have read pretty much everything around this subject written mostly by people with a great many letters after their name and all fall very short of this book. Jackson freely admits he is not a shrink and yet has such a complete understanding of the those on both sides of the symptoms and able to explain it in very well ordered and simple terms. You will be astounded at just how clearly he is able to relate exactly what is going on inside and around relationship dynamics. The 'aha' moments will have you chuckling to yourself. I will go so far as to predict this text will become a future classic and reference by which others are judged. I wonder if Jackson might follow up with a short companion book on mindfulness.

fantastic read
couldn't stop listening to this book; found it very poignant and helpful; many moments in the book gave me great elation, and can honestly say feeling much better after having read it.
it is not the usual approach of meditation and positivity, more hard-hitting and straight to the point which I really appreciated.

For anyone out there who feels that they are going crazy, that if they would be better they could heal others, and those who are recovering form the present or past toxic relationship: please listen. This book is for you. And me.

A life changing script flip
Thank you, Jackson, for giving us the permission to place down the luggage of the toxic shame thrust upon us in the wake of an abusive relationship with a Cluster B individual.

Helped me to heal QUICKLY
I loved this book so much - so many 'a-ha' moments that put things into context for me. My ex-fiance had just cheated on me and left me in a pit of despair. Reading this book (twice) I realised I was certainly in an abusive relationship with a narcissist/ borderline personality. I discovered the patterns I had to remove and my childhood wounds I needed to heal before I would attract a healthy relationship. I am glad to say I very quickly moved on with the help of this book.

Author does NOT have any formal psychology training
Although some of the ideas and suggestions in this book seemed to make some sense I was continually amazed to hear the author throwing around psychological diagnoses and labelling people. This is such a terrible thing to do because mental health diagnoses should only be made by a professional after a thorough assessment. I can imagine there would be many vulnerable people adversely affected by this.

love almost everything
except the assumption of unconditional love that is typical from Humanistic approach.
if humans were good inside world would not have 2nd war, Nazism, nascisists, psychos etc.
Some disorders for me are psychiatric disorders instead of action of the protective self, unconscious etc.
Despite this difference of approach,.this book saves many lives - everybody had an abuser (emotional or physical). Maybe this book can also save you.
