Ravi Zacharias and Vince Vitale defend the absolute claims of Christ against modern belief in the "secular gods" of atheism, scientism, relativism, and more. The rise of these secular gods presents the most serious challenge to the absolute claims of Christ since the founding of Christianity itself. The Christian worldview has not only been devalued and dismissed by modern culture, but its believers are openly ridiculed as irrelevant. This audiobook is fresh, insightful, and important, and faces head on today's most urgent challenges to Christian faith.

Now, with his son Sean McDowell, Josh McDowell has updated and expanded this classic resource for a new generation. This is a book that invites listeners to bring their doubts.

San Bernardino was the most lethal terror attack on American soil since 9/11, and it came on the heels of a coordinated assault on Paris. There is no question that innocents were slaughtered in the name of Allah. But do the terrorists' actions actually reflect Islam? The answer to this question is more pressing than ever, as many Muslim refugees are still migrating to the West, seeking shelter from the violent ideologies of ISIS, Al-Qaida, and other radical Islamic groups. In Answering Jihad, Nabeel Qureshi answers these urgent questions from the perspective of a former Muslim.

Story
An inspiring new perspective on the science versus religion debate. Can science explain everything? Many people think so. Science, and the technologies it has spawned, has delivered so much to the world: Clean water; more food; better healthcare; longer life. And we live in a time of rapid scientific progress that holds enormous promise for many of the problems we face as humankind. So much so, in fact, that many see no need or use for religion and belief systems that offer us answers to the mysteries of our universe. Science has explained it, they assume. Religion is redundant.

Publisher's Summary
Why would a loving and powerful God allow so much pain and suffering? In Why Suffering? Ravi Zacharias and Vince Vitale carefully walk you through a variety of responses that considered together provide a clear, comprehensive, and convincing answer. Responses like:
- Where there is the possibility of love, there has to be the reality of freedom, and therefore the possibility of pain.
- Wishing God had made a different world is to wish yourself out of existence.
- The cross is the key to a compelling and rational explanation for trusting in God in the face of suffering.
- In comparison with other world religions, the Christian response is highly distinctive.
- The reality of evil only makes sense in light of the reality of divine goodness.
- Relational knowledge about God takes the argument beyond reason to the presence of God amidst suffering.
- God's decision to allow temporal suffering is understandable when viewed from an eternal perspective.
- Divine goodness shows how to conquer not in spite of, but even through suffering.
Here is a book written with great respect for the complexity of the issue, recognizing that some who read it will be in the trenches of deep suffering themselves and others questioning the very existence of a loving God. Why Suffering? provides an answer to the problem of pain and suffering with emotional sensitivity and intellectual integrity.

Best time spent / benefit ratio book of my life
This book eclipses Frankel' Man's Search for Meaning as the most beneficial book to my life per time spent reading/listening. I was afraid this book might be boring, but I couldn't wait to finish it. Both author/narrators are wonderful at both tasks. I listened at 1.5 speed and could've bumped that to 2, but didn't actually want to be done because it was so good.
Suffering is a very difficult topic for any world view to explain, and I have spent a lot of time reading and listening to books about it. Why Suffering handles the topic masterfully. It fairly presents the case from major world religions and philosophies and compares their answers to that of Christianity. If nothing else--and it is much more--Why Suffering is an excellent survey of the topic. I wish all my non-fiction books managed to be so deep and yet so brief. You will be smarter and possibly wiser for listening to Why Suffering.

Good Scriptural Study About The Nature of Suffering
I did quite enjoy this book read by both authors. I am a little more partial to Zaharias over Vitale being the reason for 4 stars as opposed to 5. My last book I listened to was The Grand Weaver by Ravi Zacharias which dealt with a very similar subject and I think I liked it a little more. If I had listened to this book first I would have probably given it 5 stars. Either way it is a very insightful look at pain from a apologetic view. I will probably listen to this again within a year or so and not right after another of Ravi's books

Great book, recommendation for sure.
I'm biased. I have been a Razi Zacharias fan for a while. He has an incredible way of fully explaining why he thinks and believes the way he does. Vince Vitale as well has spent a lot of time thinking through his beliefs to best explain how to articulate any given question.
Suffering is a hard subject that has and will affect us all. However, knowing the underlying premise of the question helps with understanding why the question is valid or not.
I hope this book finds someone right in the midst of their suffering to add some comfort and some understanding of why Christianity answers the question with the best explanation.

The Gospel according to Zacharias & Vitale ??
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
Book is read well, can listen easily.
What could Ravi Zacharias and Vince Vitale have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
Why does not Zacharias and Vitale refer back to the Bible to find the answer to the question ??They refer to their own life experiences and sayings of other people AND DO NOT REFER TO THE WORD OF GOD to come up with any explanation to the question at hand.In my opinion, this is a very poor approach. It was very difficult to hear page after page a very NON biblical thesis of the topic based on their experiences.
Any additional comments?
Need to refer to the bible when we need to seek answers for such questions. But for these 2 authors, they saw fit that they refer to their own life experiences and what other people have stated AND NOT WHAT GOD has stated about suffering in the bible. How can their explanations be seen as authentic when they do not seek what God says about the topic ??
