Really fun book!
- By AdaChaDad on 12-21-15
Publisher's Summary
Twenty-two-year-old Ivy Morgan isn't your average college student. She, and others like her, know that humans aren't the only thing trolling the French Quarter for fun... and for food. Her duty to the Order is her life. Four years ago, she lost everything at the hands of the creatures she'd sworn to hunt, tearing her world and her heart apart.
Ren Owens is the last person Ivy expected to enter her rigidly controlled life. He's six feet and three inches of temptation and swoon-inducing charm. But letting him in is as dangerous as hunting the cold-blooded killers that are stalking the streets. As Ivy grows closer to Ren, she realizes that she's not the only one who's carrying secrets that could shatter the frail bond between them. She is no longer sure which is more dangerous to her - the ancient beings threatening to take over the town or the man demanding to lay claim to her heart and her soul.

TINK!
I didn’t really know what I was getting into as usual. The cover gives me one thing but the story is totally something else. Ivy is an interesting character she is a little no-nonsense and a little shielded. I love that she has a brownie for a pet, Tink is hilarious is amazon prime habit is a little bit concerning and probably my favorite side character yet!
Ren well he is charming and knows what he wants if not a little arrogant. I like that he doesn’t beat around the bush he knows he like Ivy so he goes after her.
The stuff happening with the other world and its door that is good but I found it dragged on a little I know book 1’s you have to get the world building in so I am hoping book 2 and 3 the story comes out more.
I really like the narration, I think she does a great job with each other characters giving them their own voice I am continuing on with the series.

Okay. Not what I was expecting.
Part of my discontent with this story is that I didn't realize it was mainly a romance. I was looking for more Fae based stories and the New Orleans setting peaked my interest. So I gave it 3 stars instead of two because that part is my fault. So I will try to ignore the ridiculously sappy deep conversations with sexual undertones and corny "That's What She Said" type jokes that dominate the interactions of the two main characters of this book. Don't get me wrong, I like Romances. But in good smut the couple usually have a lot more friction and discord before they realize their sappy soggy lust for each other. Even romance needs to have more suspense. The main issue for me is that their conclusions and decisions are both completely predictable in one instance and illogical in the next. I actually think the author had a good setting and setup. But the quick romance she forced between Ivy and Ren sort of ruined it for her. He overlooks some pretty serious flaws in his logic so he can fall in love. Also some elements of the story don't seem plausible. It's disappointing when you can think of alternate and BETTER resolutions than this supposedly CIA of the Otherworld can. Death is not the only option folks! And the children of members aren't the only possible recruits for your organization. Come On! I kept hoping Ren would just be knocked off so Ivy could get on with her extremely predictable but somewhat interesting story.

✫✫ 3.75 Stars ✫✫
This book wasn't anything I was expecting. While I enjoyed the characters and the story line, I have to say I found it a little slow. I figured out the plot very early on so I spent a large part of the book waiting for it to finally come together. I am not a big fan of Fae so I'll admit I didn't have high expectations once I realized this was a Fae story and it was better than I expected. I don't know if I will even continue with the story though.
The narration was good, Amy Landon isn't a favorite of mine for most books because she has a voice that fits a specific type of person, like upity lawyers, heiress, queen types so it doesn't really work for me as a butt kicking Fae hunter. Besides that she did a great job at the other voices, especially Tink!

So, so good!
I fell into this book right from the start. I wanted to listen to Wicked all the time. I really liked Ivy, she was brave and kicked butt where ever she went. She had a hard time letting people in, it was hard to connect to her...at times. I also loved Ren. He was a perfect match for Ivy and made the story exceptionally swoon worthy. But I think the story stealer was Tink. He had me cracking up so many times.
I wish it wouldn't have taken me so long to read this book. Everything by Armentrout is amazing, so I should be surprised how much this paranormal romance rocked. I really hope to read/listen to Torn, book two soon, as it recently released.

Not great
I didn’t feel this was very well written or narrated. The writing was barely mediocre and contained grammar and vocabulary errors that the narrator read verbatim. The MC acted annoyingly Pollyanna-like and half the time seemed conflict-averse but then veered off to extremely bizarre jaunts into tough-girl mode. It was all over the place.
The narrator wasn’t much better than the writing. The voice did NOT match the character or the theme of the book. She was all one tempo and tone which would have been better cast as a schoolmarm or preschool teacher. Definitely not the type of heroine the author was trying to convey!! This book and narration was a complete mess.

Naughty talk was ridiculous.
What did you love best about Wicked?
The overall story was pretty good.
Did the narration match the pace of the story?
Eh...the narration was okay, but thought some of her interpretations, especially Ren's dialogue, were a bit off.
Any additional comments?
The scenes where Ivy and Ren were intimate, and most of Ren's dialogue made me want to both, stab my eardrums, and punch Ren in the throat. Yes, it was that ridiculous. Other than that, the story was solid. I really enjoyed it despite the poorly worded naughty & sweet talk. It would be a 5 star review otherwise.

wickedly horrible
it seems the story of the Faye was a backdrop to nauseating romance. The main character behave every bit of a 15 year old rather than one almost 23. dont even get me started on Ren and his over active rapey libido. I wanted more of the magical world, instead I got to hear the word panties a lot. I'm such an fan of her Lux series and the new one with the gargoyles, but this is a no for me. will be returning asap.

Basically a dodgy porno
I gave up on this about an hour from the end, first couple of chapters were OK but then it just turned into a rank porno. The storyline didn't do much and the romance between the main characters was a total bore with no depth just loads of aching breasts etc. Her breasts ached pretty much evertime ren looked at her it is a joke. If this is what you want then I guess you will love it but I just found it grim in the end it was more and more explicit sex and less and less story as it went on. I absolutely love the shadow hunter books by cassandra clare and this is absolutely not in the same ballpark sadly.

Wicked
Loved the premise of guardians of gates to the land of the Fae and that the order hunted the ones trapped here . It is also a love story of Ivy and Ren but not mushy (quite naughty and in parts sexy)
Ivy lives with Tink a brownie who she keeps a secret as the order would kill him and they have a lovely friendship even if he does have wierd cravings for dolls and sugar lol...
I would highly recommend it, it's a good listen the narrator was very easy on the ears and I can't wait for the second book Torn to be released hopefully by the end of this year fingers x'd

Loved the characters, Tink is so funny and I can't wait for the next book. Jennifer writes with such imagination you can't help but picture the events of the story in your head. Her characters touch your heart every time, but they are not soft or sappy. It's a great audiobook and the narrator did a fantastic job. I greatly recommend it!

loved 😍 the Characters !!
I love Jennifer L Armentrout as an author. This is very obviously the 1st book she ever wrote. There's not as much depth to it as all her other books. The characters are gorgeous but the world building is lack luster. I also think a different narrator would make a world of difference. She can't do male voices, or accents and her attempt at Tinks voice (a little winged male fairy) is cringe worthy . As always Jen is brilliant at her descriptive bedroom scenes, oh lordy!! I am going to continue and purchase the next book in the series, I'm 🙏praying and 🤞 hoping Jennifer has learnt alot since book 1 because I know how great an aurhor she becomes so lets hope its by book 2 and fingers crossed 🤞 that the narrator has improved or better yet Jennifer enployed a better one!!

Will read book 2 👍
A little cheesy / predictable at some points but the overall plot is great. The narration wasn’t the best but after the first couple of hours it didn’t feel as awkward - maybe I just got use to it. I do think I may have enjoyed this more in print instead of audio.

I couldn't even finish it
It was so cringey, I felt like I was listening to bad erotic fiction. I'm not sure if it's the narrator though I might have felt better about it if I had read it myself. I absolutely hate it when female narrator's put on a male voice...... So cheesy and cringeworthy. The only thing I think the book had going for it was the references to Supernatural and Jensen Ackles!
