Pretty Inspiring

Great book! Made me want to go on an adventure an explore new things. I recommend it, even if you don't hunt.

Good stories

This book was a good collection of stories from an Alaskan hunting/fishing guide. There was no major point or story line necessarily, but a good/entertaining recollection of the life and times of the authors adventures in Alaska. I felt the narrator did a decent job, but was a poor fit for the story.

Good hunting stories; religious overdose

Enjoyed many of the hunting stories and got a great sense of Alaskan wilderness but almost every chapter refenrenced the "greater meaning" and "gods unseen path for us" which I wasn't expecting and it was totally overdone. No reference to his strong faith in the book summary which was odd as Rockys faith is referenced regularly.
The irony of a man extolling gods virtues and Christian way of life while simultaneously never missing an opportunity to get a dig in at women wasn't lost on me either. A man of his era I suppose, but a dinosaur with a 19th century gender outlook to me e.g. "elk cows often walk ahead and sense possible danger for the bull - whatever happened to that idea!?". 🤦‍♂️

Who chose the narrator?

I’ve read this book multiple times in it’s printed form and each time come away very moved from the stories that are shared.
I found it very hard to listen to this book in this form as the narrator did not fit the subject. Imagine the big burly Alaskan guide with the full beard. Listening to this narration all I could picture was a singsong college professor reading it as a bedtime story.
My advice skip the audiobook and go for the printed version

If the Alaskan wilderness interests you, takes from Rocky’s camp will fascinate you. I enjoyed listening to it all.
