Story
Billy Connolly may be a citizen of the world, but in his heart he's never been far from his homeland. Made in Scotland is Billy's unique and intimate portrait of his native Scotland, a love letter to the places and people that made him. It's an adventure inspired by a single incident: the moment Billy received his Knighthood and was asked, 'How does it feel to have achieved all this when you came from nothing?' His response was, 'But I did come from something!'

Over the course of a 30-year career, Eddie Izzard has proven himself to be a creative chameleon, inhabiting the stage and film and television screens with an unbelievable fervor. Born in Yemen and raised in Ireland, Wales, and postwar England, he lost his mother at the age of six. In his teens he dropped out of university and took to the streets of London as part of a two-man escape act; when his partner went on vacation, Izzard kept busy by inventing a one-man act, and thus a career was ignited.

'Between the Stops is a sort of a memoir, my sort. It's about a bus trip really, because it's my view from the Number 12 bus (mostly top deck, the seat at the front on the right), a double-decker that plies its way from Dulwich, in South East London, where I was living, to where I sometimes work - at the BBC, in the heart of the capital. It's not a sensible way to write a memoir at all, probably, but it's the way things pop into your head as you travel, so it's my way'.

Ramble Book is about parenthood, boarding-school trauma, arguing with your partner, bad parties, confrontations on trains, friendship, wanting to fit in, growing up in the '80s, dead dads, teenage sexual anxiety, failed artistic endeavours, being a David Bowie fan and how everything you read, watch and listen to as a child forms a part of the adult you become. It’s also an audiobook about the joys of going off topic and letting your mind wander. And it’s about a short, hairy, frequently confused man called Adam Buxton.

Publisher's Summary
WINNER OF THE 2022 BRITISH BOOK AWARDS AUDIOBOOK OF THE YEAR: NON-FICTION
The funny, frank and full autobiography of the nation's favourite comedian.
It's the first time I've done this. Other people have written about me - or for me - but this time, it's just my own life in my own words.
In his first full-length autobiography, comedy legend and national treasure Billy Connolly reveals the truth behind his windswept and interesting life.
Born in a tenement flat in Glasgow in 1942, orphaned by the age of four and a survivor of appalling abuse at the hands of his own family, Billy's life is a remarkable story of success against all the odds.
Billy found his escape first as an apprentice welder in the shipyards of the River Clyde. Later he became a folk musician - a 'rambling man' - with a genuine talent for playing the banjo. But it was his ability to spin stories, tell jokes and hold an audience in the palm of his hand that truly set him apart.
As a young comedian, Billy broke all the rules. He was fearless and outspoken - willing to call out hypocrisy wherever he saw it. But his stand-up was full of warmth, humility and silliness, too. His startling hairy 'glam-rock' stage appearance - wearing leotards, scissor suits and banana boots - only added to his appeal.
It was an appearance on Michael Parkinson's chat show in 1975 - and one outrageous story in particular - that catapulted Billy from cult hero to national star. TV shows, documentaries, international fame and award-winning Hollywood movies followed. Billy's pitch-perfect stand-up comedy kept coming, too - for over 50 years, in fact - until a double diagnosis of cancer and Parkinson's disease brought his remarkable live performances to an end. Since then he has continued making TV shows, creating extraordinary drawings...and writing.
Windswept & Interesting is Billy's story in his own words. It is joyfully funny - stuffed full of hard-earned wisdom as well as countless digressions on fishing, farting and the joys of dancing naked. It is an unforgettable, life-affirming story of a true comedy legend.
I didn't know I was windswept and interesting until somebody told me. It was a friend who was startlingly exotic himself. He'd just come back from Kashmir and was all billowy shirt and Indian beads. I had long hair and a beard and was swishing around in electric blue flairs.
He said: 'Look at you - all windswept and interesting!'
I just said: 'Exactly!'
After that, I simply had to maintain my reputation....

Funny, honest and tender
You'd expect an autobiography by Billy Connolly to be humorous, however what made this extra special was it's truthful nature as Connolly recounts memories and anecdotes of childhood and into adulthood.
You learn early on of the tough life he lived in his younger years and his yearning to live a different life because he saw himself as different or as he puts it "windswept & interesting". From there a whole personality was formed into creating arguably one of the greatest comedians of all time.
A true gem of a book.

Excellent - both poignant and hilarious
A frank and irreverent look back at what has brought Billy Connolly to this point. Now suffering from Parkinson’s, his voice sounds a little strained, but the narrative is compelling. I finished the unabridged version (8.5hrs) in under 24hrs - I just couldn’t stop listening.
From his appallingly abusive childhood, through his schooling, apprenticeship to going ‘pro’ as a performer, he keeps you riveted. On a couple of occasions he had me snorting out loud with laughter - and loses it himself once.
A great autobiography - thoroughly recommended.

A must for all fans of the big yin, Billy's story in his own words and voice, a mix of funny wee stories, tragedies and a wild windswept and interesting ride through life. At one point listening to this I achieved that kind of silent laughter when you simply cannot breathe anymore so you just shake uncontrollably. I'm delighted after all these years Billy can still get me in that state. I have no words of praise high enough for the book, it is, like its author, simply wonderful.

Hilarious, Honest and Definitely Interesting
One of the best autobiographies I’ve ever read and even better with the Big Yin telling it in his amazing voice.
The flow perfectly matches his stage style, no overly constructed chapters, more a timeline of individual moments that ebb and flow back and forth to tell the whole story.
Captivating, an open door into Billy’s rise to fame, adversity and honest approach to his life, never compromising and adjusting to all that life has dealt him.
Warning - listen in private or you’ll find yourself laughing out loud in public, and if you find yourself in this situation just smile, knowing it’s exactly what Billy would want to happen.

I loved hearing his story.
He's done bits on stage but this was more measured, reflective and thoughtful. It was still a hoot and the world is a better place because Billy Connolly walks upon it. Thank you, Billy
