Publisher's Summary
Few writers have explored the human dark side with as much insight and power - and in Winter Prey, his shattering New York Times best-seller, Sandford tells his most ice-blooded tale of all. Minneapolis Lieutenant Lucas Davenport has tracked killers in cities across America. But even he may be unprepared to face the savage murderer hunting human prey in the Wisconsin woods this winter.

Will not buy anything from this author, again
The story was an ok mystery and kept you guessing until the end as to the identity of the killer. The narration was fine, but will not buy from authors that think they're adding to the story by constant cursing. I can tolerate the occasional F bomb, but when the author feels the need to offend constantly by taking God's name in vain I won't waste the money on buying any future books from that author. For the life of me I can't figure out why authors think they're it's advantageous to offend future buyers when it adds absolutely, nothing, to the story.

Davenport...'nuff said
Would you consider the audio edition of Winter Prey to be better than the print version?
I love Mr. Ferrone's performance.
Who was your favorite character and why?
I love Weather
Have you listened to any of Richard Ferrone’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I've only heard him as the narrator of this series and so far, I can't imagine another narrator.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I found myself getting emotional when Weather described her parents and when the yellow haired girl ... (don't want to spoil it!)
Any additional comments?
Great. Can't wait for the next one.

Excellent!
Winter Prey, first released in 1993, introduces a female physician named Weather who would later become Lucas Davenport's wife. Davenport prior to Weather was a roguish character who was hard to like. The very nature of the series changed for the better with the introduction of her character. The series gets even better later with the addition of their adopted daughter Lettie.
Winter Prey is one of few novels in the series that take place totally outside Minnesota (in northern Wisconsin). It is an outstanding story that richly deserves a 5 star rating. Richard Ferrone does a great job of narrating this 2012 audiobook.

So glad this one came out on audible.
I'd skipped this one because it wasn't out on audible. I had the intention of going back latter and getting a kindle copy. Then it popped up last week and I grabbed it up. I'm so glad it came through on audible before I bought the kindle copy. This was really good. Lots of tension. Great story.
Richard Ferrone does a really good job narrating the series. I'm glad it looks like he's doing the entire series.
There are still some holes in front of me in this series and hopefully they'll fill in before I get to them.

Again... Sandford Quality!!! Nuff Said!
Sandford & Ferrone are a standard of Audio Book mystery excellence. Winter Prey is brrrrrrrr.... both in setting and plot. Like others, I'd almost exhausted the Davenport novels from Audible only to discover that Winter Prey... a key early story... was now available. And now I know how Lucas met Weather... even though a key part of that meeting's repeated in every succeeding novel. And here, Davenport temporarily a small town deputy... gets to solve reeeely chilly plot with all the Sandford twists and Ferrone imagining of the characters - which he does far better than I could as a reader instead of listener.
Five stars of course.

Classic Sanford and Ferrone
Would you consider the audio edition of Winter Prey to be better than the print version?
Don't know - never read the print version. I would think it's better. Listening to Richard Ferrone narrate a great story is a wonderful experience.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Winter Prey?
Too many to list.
Having listened to all available books in this series, re-listening to this was special. Revisiting Lucas's first meeting Weather was really cool.
Which character – as performed by Richard Ferrone – was your favorite?
Lucas, of course.
And Weather.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Having listened to all available books in this series, re-listening to the time when Lucas first meat Weather was really good.
Any additional comments?

... when Lucas met Winter ...
Would you listen to Winter Prey again? Why?
Sure, I enjoy a re-listen to the entire Prey series, you pick up little things you may have missed or look forward to the scenes & dialog that you remember. Either way, while waiting for the NEXT prey novel I enjoy a revisit to Minneapolis any time.
What did you like best about this story?
Winter Prey has a good plot line of its own to keep your interest, but this is the one where Lucas meets Weather. It adds to his back story and gives you more insight to Lucas' personal life.
Have you listened to any of Richard Ferrone’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
Many ... he is a wonderful narrator, and for me ... he IS Lucas Davenport. He delivers Lucas' lines exactly how I expect them to be spoken.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
Lucas gets shot, in the throat ... he can't breathe ... can Weather step in, in time ...
Any additional comments?
Everyone should add the Prey series to their wish lists.

Lucas and I fell in love ... with Weather.
This is one of my favorites of the series. I like the fact that the storyline occurs when Lucas is away relaxing at his cabin. I like that he goes to work and finds a way to tackle the problem of investigating the crime while on vacation. But, I love Weather. I love that she comes into the story and is so far from what Lucas normally knows. She has no connection to law, crime and homicide. And while she admires and then loves Lucas, she never loses herself in the relationship. She is a highly intelligent and equally compassionate woman who will stand up to Lucas when appropriate. She is integral to this novel and I am left wanting more of that relationship.
