Publisher's Summary

Everyone has wanted their favorite book to be real, if only for a moment. Everyone has wished to meet their favorite characters, if only for a day. But be careful in that wish, for even a history laid in ink can be repaid in flesh and blood, and reality is far deadlier than fiction...especially on Addington Isle.

Winterset Hollow follows a group of friends to the place that inspired their favorite book - a timeless tale about a tribe of animals preparing for their yearly end-of-summer festival. But after a series of shocking discoveries, they find that much of what the world believes to be fiction is actually fact, and that the truth behind their beloved story is darker and more dangerous than they ever imagined. It's Barley Day...and you're invited to the hunt.

Winterset Hollow is as thrilling as it is terrifying and as smart as it is surprising. A uniquely original story filled with properly unexpected twists and turns, Winterset Hollow delivers complex, indelible characters and pulse- pounding action as it storms toward an unforgettable climax that will leave you reeling. How do you celebrate Barley Day? You run, friend. You run.

Absolutely LOVED this tale!!

Such a surprise find amid the unlimited choices of audible!! This story is like The Wind In The Willows, Narnia, The Magicians, Wildwood, and The Hunger Games all in one. The writing is beautiful, the characters instantly recognizable and the story will appeal to YA and adult readers. My only wish is that it was longer, and some of the early questions smoothed out, though it is a satisfying ending. It did take me a bit to get into the narration as the author reads FAST. I had to slow the narration to .8 speed for awhile to get used to his cadence. Loved this and now going to listen to it immediately again.

Wow

I loved this book, it’s first horror-ish book I’ve ever listened to, and I think some of the reviews are hating too much in the narrator. I liked him a lot.

I guess it's not for me.

wanted to stop most the time but pushed through.
It was a bit like a fan fiction, really not for me.

Very Interesting

This took me at least three chapters to get into this story. This is a twisted Alice in wonderland meets Hunger games story that was overall good. I highly recommend it if you want to listen/read something different.

Solid

the twists weren't twists so much as they were bends, but the whole of the book was written well enough that it didn't matter that it was a touch predictable. Well paced, well written, and well worth the listen.

Winnie-the-Pooh meets Hunger Games= AWESOME

This book.is genius. What happens to the animals when they are exploited by a writer? THIS. This book is a wild ride that is intelligent and complex, yet doesn't get bogged down in itself. LOVED IT.

Amazing story with dry narration.

Loved the story and the narration was dry but still a must read. The narration didn't bother me too much but made it hard to feel anything about any of the characters.

Desperately needed an editor.

This was exhausting. I found the writing style to be just not for me.

The writing just meandered so much over every detail that I feel like the same thing could have been told in 1 sentence that this author chooses to use 9 sentences to tell it.

I also didn't at all feel like I was reading a story, too often the style of the writing feels like I, as a reader am being talked to or read the story instead of me getting to actually experience it. I hate being told the story instead of getting to experience it from a characters percpective.

The book also felt incredibly disorganized especially with its pacing when it just took forever to get started. I'd often get lost with where I was with the plot or what was going on because of all these run on expositions or explanations being dragged out, over use of metaphors and talking at me of the plot or world building. It like all meshes together that really made everything feel messy, amateur and in desperate need of an editor.

The premise if this book was cool and it would have been neat if done by a more experienced writer.

IT'S VERY OWN GENRE

As inspirational to the imagination as it is painful to the heart.
Spoiler: It is NOT what you're expecting.

thought provoking

in general, I guessed how the tale would go,but it is so beautifully crafted,so sad and full of pathos. I like that the author is the narrator, for who else knows how the story should be told? a most memorable tale, much enjoyed and appreciated
