Story
At age 12, Nikki Haley started to do the bookkeeping and taxes for her parents' business. After graduating from college and entering the business world, she watched other business owners battle government bureaucracy and overregulation. Her frustration inspired her to get into politics and run for the state legislature. That first campaign, against an entrenched incumbent, led to racial and religious slurs and threats - but Haley, like her parents, refused to back down.

William Barr’s first tenure as attorney general under President George H.W. Bush was largely the result of chance, while his second tenure under President Donald Trump a deliberate and difficult choice. In this candid memoir, Barr takes listeners behind the scenes during seminal moments of the 1990s, from the LA riots to Pan Am 103 and Iran Contra. Thirty years later, Barr faced an unrelenting barrage of issues, such as Russiagate, the COVID outbreak, civil unrest, the impeachments, and the 2020 election fallout.

Black Americans have long been shackled to the Democrats. Seeing no viable alternative, they have watched liberal politicians take the Black vote for granted without pledging anything in return. In Blackout, Owens argues that this automatic allegiance is both illogical and unearned. She contends that the Democrat Party has a long history of racism and exposes the ideals that hinder the Black community’s ability to rise above poverty, live independent and successful lives, and be an active part of the American dream.

There are certain stories we tell ourselves about the hardships we face - we can become paralyzed by adversity or we can adapt and overcome. We can be fragile or we can find our fortitude. Publisher's Summary
This program is read by the author.
A revealing, dramatic, deeply personal book about the most significant events of our time, written by the former United States ambassador to the United Nations
Nikki Haley is widely admired for her forthright manner (“with all due respect, I don’t get confused”), her sensitive approach to tragic events, and her confident representation of America’s interests as our ambassador to the United Nations during times of crisis and consequence.
In this book, Haley offers a firsthand perspective on major national and international matters as well as a behind-the-scenes account of her tenure in the Trump administration.
This book reveals a woman who can hold her own - and better - in domestic and international power politics, a diplomat who is unafraid to take a principled stand even when it is unpopular, and a leader who seeks to bring Americans together in divisive times.

You're a woman, I get it
A little background, I am a died-in-the-wool Trump supporter. I voted for Cruz in the primary, but after Trump's extraordinary accomplishments over the last 2.5 years, I now know I should have voted for Trump all along.
I have liked Nikki Haley (a lot) ever since she splashed onto the world stage as UN Ambassador. Therefore, I looked forward to this listen. She read the book herself, and I loved her voice and her performance. I was also moved by her life story and her work ethic.
But the most startling thing I learned from the book was Ms. Haley's deep sense of sexism. She points out so often how, because she is a woman, she sees things differently. And women are better suited to political offices than men because of their sensitivities. She touched on this in various parts for the first few chapters. But in later chapters her sexism became a dominant theme.
I had no idea she felt this way. In my view, most conservatives do not play identity politics. The liberals have this lane all to themselves. True conservatives, again in my opinion, believe only in performance and results. We don't give a crap about your gender, race, or any other identity issues...just do your job.
I was deeply disappointed to learn of Nikki's identity politics. Yes, Nikki. you're a woman, but we don't care. Get over it! Unfortunately, I'm doubtful she will change.

So Much Respect!
Great audio book. Nikki has a beautiful voice and cadence. It is well written - allowing the reader/listener to walk in her shoes providing insight into her first principles and there is a recognition of her grit and determination to keep to those principles through the stories told and all while treating those around her with respect and directness. There are heartbreaking stories - the Charleston nine who were murdered after sitting for an hour and praying with a white supremacist in their historic church in Charleston South Carolina was particularly difficult to listen to but the stories don’t end with the heartbreak but rather she proceeds to describe how people can choose to move forward in the face of adversity even those of such a heart wrenching life altering nature. How people from different sides in a conflict or those with just different life experiences and backgrounds can chose to focus on their similarities and come together to help heal rather than divide and tear their communities apart. The stories of families and women she has met around the world - their resilience, their strength in forgiveness, their determination were inspiring. Well there’s that and a whole lot more. I won’t spoil it.

Nikki Haley: an American Dream Realized
Reading and listening to a good story is both entertaining and inspiring. Without a doubt, this is one of the most inspiring books I have ever read and then listened to. Ambassador Haley, is both, filled with grace and grit, in telling her story, from being an immigrant to becoming an American Ambassador to the United Nations.
This story will give you hope, and inspiration for what it means to be an American Citizen. We have been given a singular Gift, as Citizens of the United States of America, to live our lives of Grace, with Grit and Determination, so all Americans can live, with Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness. Fatigueless
I didn't know much about Nikki Haley and you don't normally think of a national politician with this kind of poise. She focuses on the positive even when describing race and what it's like at the U.N. Of course she's a politician, so I was guarded against drinking cool aid. But I'm gushing to my wife about her beauty pageant story and how she tends to win people over no matter the situation.
She explains at the mechanics of how she left the U.N. position, yet I didn't understand why she left when she did. I classify this book as 'uplifting' in a way not based on ideology, religion or party affiliation. I feel like I could hear the author's voice, see her image on the news constantly for at least three years without feeling a sense of fatigue.

objective well written
This book was very straightforward objective book that tells the story of Nikki Hailey's accomplishments and struggles growing up in rural South Carolina to becoming the first woman minority Governor or South Carolina and her time as US ambassador to the UN. It is heartfelt and straightforward without political mudslinging. She praises and criticizes Democrat and Republican colleagues and weighs her opinions based on facts and her firsthand experiences and not based on political parties or partisanship. I was actually quite surprised how objective and non-partisan this book was.
It also gives a peak into the inner workings of the Trump Whitehouse between 2017-2018 from her experience and is once again quite objective and non-partisan. I very much enjoyed this book and highly reccomend.

A campaign book through and through
I find it helpful to hear from politicians in their own words. Books like this one help to give us a politician's perspective without the filter of the media. I learned a lot about Haley's time as UN Ambassador that I did not know about, and really appreciated the way that Ambassador Haley talked about the personal effects of the Charleston shooting. Her vulnerability in talking about difficult times in her leadership in SC and at the UN were moving. That said, the book is light on substance in a lot of ways and contains many contradictions along the way. When she talks about policy, issues, and her political philosophy, there are pieces of the book that do not add up with other parts of the book. Like much of her political career, she tries to have it both ways.
Her narration is very good.

A great peek behind the curtains of US politics.
This memoir of the past few years of Nikki Haley's political career, and especially her time in the Trump administration is an eye opening expose of just how murky and gritty the waters of the US swamp really are. Written in an easy style and read in the soft, southern drawl of the author herself, the book was completely engaging and well worth the time/cost. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a bit of truth regarding the Trump presidency.

A wonderful book. A heart warming and sometimes tearjearking tale. The only reason the story didn't get the full five stars is because she left her UN post too early and would have loved her to do Trump's full term (hopefully eight year term).
