Bond goes low key

Anthony Horowitz continues Bond's adventures after the events of The Man with the Golden Gun {Book}. The story is low-key but Flemingesque. I was disappointed with the ending as it seemed another outcome had been teased earlier in the story. Rory Kinnear does a great job bringing the world to life.

Don’t go here!!!!

This is the first time I have EVER submitted a negative review. This book is pure misery! I just can’t understand why it goes into the depths of despair rather than make the reader enjoy it. As for the narrator......he maybe an acclaimed actor, but I don’t think he’s taken the trouble to watch any of the Bond films. He voices M with a high pitched stacatto voice SO far removed from Bernard Lee as to be insulting. I wanted to enjoy this but hated it. Sorry Mister Horowitz.

Disappointed

I am usually a fan of Anthony Horowitz but I am deeply disappointed by this book - so much so I gave up very early into it. I feel I wasted a credit on this one.

excellent pace, good writing

very listenable. intriguing from the very start, with lots of the familiar and fun bond tropes. some seems were drawn extremely vividly - I could imagine a film playing out in my mind, so clear were the description of the surroundings and the sense of danger.

Huge let down

A facile and improbable plot with a predictable outcome and which relies on unlikely scenarios to help the story limp along. Thanks

Superb

Really enjoyed this. From Rory I’d reading to the excellent flow of the story, I couldn’t wait to find out what happened next. Had the feel of From Russia with Love, true to the Fleming novels. It feels like it is Connery walking throught the story. Sad to hear that Anthony H is not writing any more Bond novels as they have been excellent

A.H top writer.

Once I started I couldn't stop.
Horowitz is a good choice to carry the J Bond mantle.

With a Mind to Kill

Brilliant, nail biting story, and Rory Kinnear just the right person to read it. Excellent

Accidentally bought , nice surprise

I accidentally purchased this because I love Horowitz's books, not realising it was James Bond, whom I hadn't read before and was sure I wouldn't like. I did really enjoy it! My only issue with the story was when Bond got a woman he hated drunk, and then aggressively had sex with her, it was very rapey and hard to listen to without utter disgust and hatred towards James Bond, so was hard to rally for him after that.

Racy, but lacking the real killer punch.

The storyline was good, the performance wasnt as exciting as you would expect in a 007 story. Good read, not exceptional, narrator was lacklustre.
