Marvellous Addition To The Series
Stillhouse Lake is another great listen and I loved the continuation of the central characters into this book.
Gwen Proctor is still fighting for her survival at Stillhouse Lake. Gwen is willing to do anything to keep her kids, Lanny and Connor, safe from vigilantes equally determined to eliminate her for their mistaken belief that she participated in the gruesome serial murders perpetrated by her ex-husband, Melvin Royal.
Wolfhunter River is another exciting book in the Stillhouse Lake series, and this time Gwen and her man, Sam, are caught up in murder and mayhem as Gwen tries to help a troubled teenage girl charged with killing her own mother.
The book grabs from the first page and pulls the reader through to the thrilling conclusion. Rachel Caine does it again!
There is violence and blood but no more than is necessary for the topic. Profanity and obscenity are present but not in overabundance. One sexual encounter is relatively discreet.
It's realistic for Lanny and Connor to grow up and more fully realize their dire circumstances as they mature.
I enjoyed the Stillhouse Lake series, including Killman Creek, and I recommend all of them to others.
The narrators were good but Emily Sutton-Smith and Dan John Miller were the best and one narrator would have most sufficient.

Long walk for a drink of water.
It takes 4 and 1/2 hours of narration to even get to Wolfhunter, and once you're there it's just a mess of a plot. Gwen's character is exhausting, and the villain is downright cartoonish. I've heard the other books in this series are much better. This didn't build anything on the previous books or set up any kind of cliffhanger for the next one, so maybe it's okay to skip this one and just continue with book 4. I forced myself to finish but I'll be requesting my credit back.

I feel like I need to correct the prior review
I will update this when I am finished with the book— currently, I am halfway through it.
I’m not sure what the other reviewer is talking about in regards to the voice actors, because they are all the same ones who read Killman Creek.
EDIT: I finally finished Wolfhunter River and, though I enjoyed it, it was an introduction to a new set of circumstances for Gwen Proctor and her family.
I feel like many people won’t like the changes but, after all, Melvin Royal is dead. There is very little to do with him in this story. And by the end, there is even less.
Personally, I enjoyed this book immensely. I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys vigilante justice. But there is no denying that the first two books were tighter in terms of plot.
However, I look forward to Gwen’s next adventures, especially considering the new job she has by the book’s conclusion. Her story is evolving, as it should. She and her family are all very interesting characters, and I can’t wait for the next book!

Wolfhunter River Book 3 wasn't for me..☹️
I couldn't WAIT for Book 3 in the ’Stillhouse Lake Series’ to come out! As ’gruesome ’ as the series was, I thought Rachel Caine wrote a story/series in the most unique way, and I really thought they were outstanding.
Then when I saw that ’Wolfhunter River’ Book 3 of Stillhouse Lake came out I immediately downloaded it. I thought I would lose another 2 nights of sleep as I did in the first 2..well I didn't.
In a nutshell, there was too much going on. When I got to the Epilogue the book had so many characters I had to re-read a few chapters because I had no clue who was who? For this reader, it should have been a book on its own, it barely had anything to do with Stillhouse Lake except every other chapter is told by the family members & the background is retold also. That was it!
Gwen is still trying to escape her past. Since her ex was a serial killer and a sick one at that! A lot of people believed who had loved one's that were killed thought she was responsible for his crimes. In the beginning she decides to go on a stupid reality talk show to try and explain why protecting her children, changing her name and moving is the most important thing for her so that she can move on. Then the host decides to bring on the mother of one of the victims, who proclaims she’ll be making a documentary about Gwen & her family to prove to the ’world’ Gwen knew about her husband's crimes and helped. Oh Lord it was so DUMB!
I end the review here....because her ex disgusting, serial killer is dead, and the next 200 pages has nothing to do with his crimes except...there was a kidnapping and a bunch of people, to this minute I couldn't remember names if you asked me! Oh, and they hate Gwen because everyone on social media hates her too due to a lot of lies! Wow..sounds familiar 🤔
If you loved the first 2 books, read this one because you'll understand why I'm so disappointed....if you didn't read them, it's completely your call.
As far as the narration, since it's seen and spoken through their eyes (Gwen, her children and her boyfriend) it was better than I thought it would be.
I'm sorry but when you are 2/3 into a series you expect the story would follow closer than ’Wolfhunter River’ did for ’Stillhouse Lake’. And I know there's a book 4 coming out! Oh, Lord...

Just Wow
Wolfhunter River
Rachel Caine
Book three in Rachel Caine’s Stillhouse Lake series is just as dark and just as fabulous as the first two. She gives us a plot with so many unexpected twists and turns that you’d think it would be hard to follow but it’s not, oh yes readers/listeners will come away with whiplash, and yes some of them will catch the audience off guard but the author dangles just enough clues to keep fans on top of things as they unfold. The blunt dialogue and eerie atmospheric scenes add a noir like quality to the novel and fans will see a lot of character growth in Gwen, Sam and both kids plus they’ll see some past characters and a new batch of which both good and evil are fantastic. Fans will learn a bit more about Sam’s background and will see Gwen, Lannie and Conner heal a little to become a more solid family unit. This series will appeal to fans of dark thrillers that hint of horror. Series needs to be read in order.
Narration:
The multiple narrators continue to fit the character(s) perfectly and make this a series that listeners will love.
Gwen Proctor’s life and the lives of her two children Lannie and Conner has never been the same since she learned by accident that her husband was a serial killer using their garage for his torture and murder chamber. She was tried as his accomplice and acquitted but that doesn’t stop the hate from the people who don’t believe she’s innocent. One of those people, Gwen’s fiercest adversary is the mother of one of her exes victims and has made it her life’s mission to prove Gwen’s guilt. It doesn’t matter that they were victims too these fanatics will never believe she wasn’t involved and now this woman has funded a documentary and the crew has shown up enforce in Stillhouse Lake, the community where they have decided to call home. There’s also trouble on the home front, Gwen knows that Sam is hiding something but will give him time to tell her and her kids deserve some peace and quiet. So they decide to take a road trip until things quiet down at home, heading up to Wolfhunter River to answer a mysterious plea for help that Gwen received from a stranger. Unfortunately when they get there it’s not peace they find but trouble with a capital T.

Another good series ruined with change
The first 2 books were well written, well narrated and exciting. Idk why but so many authors ruin a good series by changing what works well. The different narraters were awful, you could tell they were done at different times and edited together. Not well either. The lulls between characters makes it choppy, not like a dialog. The whole story seems disjointed, not melding into a cohesive storyline. Too many "tangents". It's almost like a different author jumped in and out. I was SO looking forward to this book, turns out a big disappointment. Didn't even finish

Bit disappointing
I enjoyed the first 2 novels in this series however didn't think this had as much depth to it. While I understand the characters are who they are because of their past, I felt that there was far too much repetition in this story of events from the previous 2 books, particularly as it is clearly aimed at an audience who have read the first two and are familiar with what has gone on before. The new plot in this story seems to only kick in around half way and then is pretty rushed. It could have been better if the wolfhunter storyline started earlier, had more detail, and was the main focus.

I'm exhausted after completing this. Action packed didn't even come close.
A very well presented performance helped add to the excitement. Still hoping Gwen catches a break over if these days.

Decent series
I enjoyed all of the series. It’s fairly inane stuff but enjoyable. Unfortunately the angsty “ lannie “ chapters become so grating that I had to skip them.

An OK drama
The third in the Stillhouse Lake series and another chance to see Gwen battle the demons of her serial killer ex-husband. This book was just OK, but didn’t excite me as the previous two had.I felt the story was missing tension and instead seemed to amble quite nicely to the end when I wanted more action and pace. The fourth book of the series is due for release in January 2020.

very engaging, good characters
enjoyed the continuation of Gwen's story. only thought is that it is hard to imagine anyone, let alone kids, going through such constant stress

Best book from the series! Clever & Unique
Loved this book, the best in the series, the plot was so clever and brilliantly written. I love how the characters evolve and the strength and the main character shows. She is inspiring and encourages us all to be more resilient. #bawse

Not at all sure about Audio Book 3 in this series
l have listened to the fisrt 2 books in this series and found them quite fascinating as l have not really considered people's viciousness when it comes to behaviours. l have also found it interesting to hear about the effort required to start your life again and simply live each day seeing how tenuous it really is in the context of these books.
Those Audio books were read by one person. The reader has what l would call a 'flat voice' but it for me it suited the content and did not distract from the themes running through the books.
Coming to Book 3 - which l have not been able to hear all of it as we have different readers for different characters. l hate this.
l have been totally unable to focus on the development of the 2 children and the lead woman herself.
It is a book NOT A BLOODY PLAY.
l have noticed the increase in audio books doing this - l suppose the money makers see it a new gimmick to make money or whatever, but l find it totally distracting and irritatingly disappointing.
l cannot recommend this Audio Book.

Another great by Rachel Cane
I really enjoyed this book, but her first in the series is Stull my favorite. Lots of mystery and suspense. The main characters are so familiar to me now.

A better developed story than book 2
Enjoyed this book and the narration more on this book, although the characters are starting to feel a bit under developed. There's only so many times you can hear a character say that they know they should do one thing but then do exactly the opposite before it feels old.
Still it's a good listen and one that sets up where the story is going to go.

Another fabulous book in the Stillhouse Lake series
Well constructed and compelling storyline combined with fabulous narration by the whole team. I have my fingers crossed there will be more in the series soon.
