Paved way for the third book.

Wolfsbane isn't as exciting and thrilling as Nightshade. In the first half of the book, we learned about the searcher's laws, magic and history, which is necessary, but can be really dull at times. You will discover that almost 80 percent of the book consists of people talking and talking. Calla was mostly silent throughout the whole book. She's the one that's always confused and popping up questions. I know all the questions she had asked was intended for readers to better understand the world of the guardians and searchers. But it can be exhausting and boring for this to repeat over and over. I had to force myself to keep listening in order to get into the second part. It was from there that everything gets interesting. Heart-breaking betrayals, the family secrets........but somehow I know the best part will all be in the third book, Bloodrose. It will be on the bookshelves in spring 2012. We'll wait and see if it gets better.

My problem is with the series. Here are my spoilers.

Calla - By the end of the third book she is a week willed, manipulative character. She claims to be this strong alpha warrior from book one. But being strong means you know your weaknesses as well as your strengths. By the third book I wanted to choke her ever time she says don't tell me what to do, I am an alpha, I don't need you to protect / help me. Everyone needs help and to imply you're not a strong woman cause you need help is a horrible thing to do to. She is in love with Shay from book one but she wears Ren's ring and say she won't chose. It's like she doesn't want to commit to either boy because she is hoping the war will kill one and make her choices for her. She needs Ren so she keeps her feelings for Shay in check around Ren so she can keep him dangling on a string. I hated Calla by the third book

Shay - He is a baby not an alpha. He has human ideas that he is pushing on Calla from book one. And it's not that I don't agree with him on some of the points. But it was the way he went about it. Only thing he didn't do was stomp his feet and throw himself on the ground. He doesn't care about the pack. He only cares about himself and what he wants. He even tells Calla at one point I am doing this cause I love you. Not because it's the right thing to do, Not so only he can save the world, not cause its morally wrong to stand by and watch this happen..... No its so he can get laid ....

Ren - Well was not sure about Ren at first. He was really pushing his will on all the other characters, but for anyone who has read Alpha werewolf books before this is a common flaw in the alpha males that is normally redeemed by the end of the series. And Ren is no different, by the end of the third book I wanted him to win so badly I was almost chewing on my desk. But no ... He doesn't win ... She kills him ... She didn't even write him in a new female that he could get a happy ending with.

I know the characters are suppose to be teenagers. However the author is not and when you are writing a book for YA then why would you make your hero/heroine so immature. They can start off that way sure, but they grow and learn and are better by then end of the story. I found that Shay and Calla only got worse the longer the story went on. I didn't want them to be rewarded with the happy ending they got. They didn't go through the trials and come out the other side better people.


I was so disappointed and sad. I didn't want anyone else to have to go through this ....

Almost as good as the first

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I think this book suffers from middle book syndrome, but what trilogy doesn't? As far as second books, its good. I dislike the way she goes back and forth between her boys, but I guess she is still young. I wish there was more Wren. I like Wren more. Overall, I really enjoyed it and can't wait for the next one.

A great read, in my opinion. I also enjoy the narrator's performance, I felt like I could escape into the story.

Basically all filler

The entire book only covers like 3 days. 2/3rds of the book is just pointless dialogue that doesn’t move the story along& flashbacks, you can pretty much skip 1/2 off fed each chapter and still be fine. The actual story tho is good when it finally gets to it, but overall the book was disappointing.

Good Book

It’s your YA Novel. Some things are predictable but the world is becoming more and more fascinating. But half of the book is explaining everything of what is going on and understand for the reader what is going on. But when the real story starts coming in it has twist and turns.

Solid universe. A little too angsty.

The series so far has a good universe. As an older male though, it does get a little too angsty. all in all it's a good book.

I Was Surprisingly Disappointed by This Book

I bought this book hoping that the characters would grow in depth and strength and, well, character, and I found myself disappointed on all counts. Both Calla and Shay act like completely self-absorbed children, not like strong leaders, and by the end of the book I LOATHED both of them. True, we all have blind spots and this book is about teenagers who are still learning who they are, but ANY kind of good leader works to be aware of these weaknesses so that s/he can make good decisions despite his/her challenges. If anything, Calla and Shay grow less self-aware and more self-centered as this book goes on.

I can’t tell you how TIRED I was of hearing Calla say how much she loves both Shay and Ren. . . and her pack for that matter, because love is not selfish, and that’s the way she came off to me. Make a choice and STICK WITH IT! Calla risked everything to run away with this one guy, leaving her pack and a boy who cared with all his heart for her behind. Yet throughout this book, she screws with their emotions as she makes one bad choice after another, dragging the boys, her pack, and even the searchers through the mud without a backward glance. The fact that she never even stopped to think about what might be happening to the pack that was left behind also bothered me—especially when it was made clear that keeper justice was not gentle .I don’t understand how the author expects us to care for a character who never even THINKS of how her actions might impact those she supposedly “loves” before making decisions. Shay is no better, I imagine him as a three year old stomping his foot and saying, but I want this NOOOOW!!!! Then again, I didn’t particularly care for his character in the first book, so this wasn’t a big surprise to me

I did like the pack because they are loyal and dependable and seem to know what it means to fight for something they believe in. Too bad their leaders are just interested in themselves, and too bad we didn’t get to hear more of their stories. I feel like a lot was lost by not spending more time with them—they actually did grow, or at least change, in some ways (well, except the brother who acted like a spoiled child). I wish we’d learned more about their story. I also like the Seekers, especially Ethan and Connor, and I did appreciate the history that was provided through their stories. And I can't fault the performance. . . the reader just didn't have much to work with!

In the first book, I was intrigued by the society that was created, and (even though Calla’s tendency to jerk the boys around bothered me a bit), I thought she’d made her decision at the end of Nightshade, so I was curious to see how she would live into that choice in this next book of the trilogy. What I found as I trudged through this book is that she neither grew nor made/owned her choice, and I was frustrated by that. I’m not sure whether I’ll read the third book.
