Christian Suspense/Murder Novel
I enjoyed listening to this audiobook but to be able to keep up with so many characters, I had to get the Kindle version to read along.
It is an interesting and well written book. There are several people's perspective throughout the book which makes it a bit harder to follow at times. It is not an easy listen/read. I had to place close attention so I would not get lost. The suspense, twists and turns kept me engaged.
Poor Sara goes through a lot in this book. Matt annoyed me with his suspicions but things got ironed out at the end. I wish there was a bit more romance intertwined in this stressfully suspenseful novel.
If you like suspenseful detective novels with lots of twists and turns you would like this book. Detectives are trying to solve a murder case that happened almost 30 years ago. The remains of a six year old are found in a construction site. The killer could still be living in the area and if there are any witnesses, the killer might stop at nothing do silence the witnesses.
There are 2 murders and some attempted murders that might be connect. Or are they? I don't want to give out spoilers.
The narrator did an awesome job bringing the story to life.

Suspenseful - Great Mystery!!
I received a free audio version of this book to write a review.
Great characters with believable background and emotions. This is the story of a woman that becomes the center of a series of crimes whenever her childhood friend's body is discovered buried in a field. And a sheriff that tries to solve the crimes and keep her alive.
The unexpected twists and turns through out the book kept me on the edge of my seat. I enjoyed it so much that I bought the second book of the series.
The narration was well done. He was about to distinguish all the characters.
I look forward to more from both the author and the narrator.

COULDN'T PUT IT DOWN!!!
Any additional comments?
It's been awhile since I've read a book that kept me up much later than I intended to because I couldn't put it down!! I kept waiting for a slow part but they were few and far between. Oh well, it was totally worth it! It's a little hard to keep track of all of the characters but keep with it, it's worth it. I won't give the story away other than to say I was completely wrong about the killer, I'm usually pretty good at figuring it out, but this one slipped right by me. The best part is you don't have to worry about language or sex scenes, it's completely clean. Being a murder mystery there is of course violence, but it's not gory, I think it would be a perfect audiobook to listen to on a family trip as long as the kids weren't really young. The narrator did a superb job, his voice was perfect for the story and the characters!!

Christian Themed Mystery/Thriller
Often I shy away from Christian themed fiction as so often the books are 'hard sell' and very preachy, like listening to or reading a very long church sermon. However this book is more gently Christian themed containing Christian references, a trust in God, Christian values and behaviors, The Christian content was nicely integrated into the novel without distracting from the mystery/thriller story.
The narration was outstanding. The narrator has a crisp distinct deliverance and did a great job portraying the various characters.
The book was well written with an intricate plot,

The unknown connections
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes, the story keeps you guessing. You may think you know who it is, and you really don't. Not until it is finally discovered and you find out.
What other book might you compare Works of Darkness to and why?
...
What does Maxwell Zener bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
He did a great job in reading the book.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I laughed at time and grumbled about how Matt always thought we worse of Sara. Poor Sara just seemed to have one problem after another.

Mysterious
Narration, Maxwell Zener - Max has a smooth voice and is pleasant to listen to and this has really great production quality. There are several characters of both sexes and he handles them well with nothing falling in the "over the top" category.
The story is a mystery, well, actually there are several mysteries going on in this book - some un-seemingly related events however, somehow there are some common players involved in each of these individual events. I enjoyed the mystery and attempting to figure out what the connection was and who actually was the bad guy. The only thing I didn't really care for was the way the facts were revealed in the end. It got a little bit Scooby Doo there - I much prefer for the characters to muddle their way into the details and truths of the mystery vs. having the "bad guy" regurgitate exactly what he did and why he did it. That always seems just a little bit too convenient and easy. But it was still an enjoyable listen.

Christian Mistry thriller
This book was just OK for me, the plot and concept were an excellent idea. I found this book a little hard to follow the author kept going off on sad tangents that really were not necessary for the book. I also found several inconsistencies, if I would have been more invested in the novel I probably wouldn't have noticed them though. Maybe it was just me but I found the narration to be very flat and uninspired. I see potential in the author but I have no desire to finish the series.
I was provided this book at no charge from the author narrator or publisher for a honest review
