Cassie Forrest isn't surprised to learn that the day she’s decided to get her life together is also the day the world ends. After all, she’s been on a self-imposed losing streak since her survivalist parents died: she’s stopped painting, broken off her engagement to Adrian and dated a real jerk. Rectifying her mistakes has to wait, however, because Cassie and her friends have just enough time to escape Brooklyn for her parents’ cabin before Bornavirus LX turns them into zombies, too.

The electrical grid sputtered; law and government collapsed - and more than half of the world’s population was decimated. Where there had been order, there was now chaos. And as the power of science and technology receded, magick rose up in its place.

It was just a random mutation - one of a billion that happen in viruses every day. But this one was different. It exploded out of Somalia and spread across the oceans before anybody thought to look up from their cell phones to see what was going on. The infected breathed the virus into the air around them, spreading it through the cities faster than anyone thought possible. Hospitals were overwhelmed. Police lines crumbled. Amid the leftovers of civilization, ex-Army Ranger Jason Larsen is reminded of the meaning of hope, family, and loyalty by a dog and a young boy who are as alone as he is. Publisher's Summary
Danger can be anywhere in the world between.
Trapped in the fairgrounds by zombies and circumstance, it’s impossible to move out—and tough to move on.
Whether romantic or platonic, changing relationships prove tricky for Rose, Tom, Clara, and Craig—never mind adapting to the new not-so-normal. Being surrounded by the undead is bad enough, but with a tyrant-in-training running their Safe Zone, it’s that much worse.
Still, it’s better than being eaten alive. And when the biggest threats are removed, it seems life with zombies is on the upswing. But there’s no margin for error in the world between—and sometimes the smallest threat proves most lethal.

Is this a zombie book?
Really disappointed. I liked the first book in this series. I’ve purchased every book available by this writer. Relationships between the characters are the focus of the stories with a zombie apocalypse backdrop. But THIS BOOK felt like the entire thing was written by a romance writer aimed for teens. Are there any zombies in this book at all? Not really. I had to stop a couple of times in annoyance. The only reason I finished this book was it was extremely expensive and I didn’t want my money to be wasted. But it was. I’m really disappointed. This storyline had so much potential. I just don’t get it. I think I’m done with this writer.

Decent, but not near as good as previous series
The original series by Sarah Lyons Fleming (Until the end of the world) is one of my absolute favorites. I have listened to it several times over and I swear it just gets better with each listen. The second series, The City is also great.
This newest series does not quite live up to its predecessors though. It is decent, however, the characters are just lacking a certain something. I would have loved to see more character development for more interesting characters like Lance and Gabe. Although Craig’s story was great in the first book, it was kind of a bore in this second one. I think the choice to have 4 narrators may have watered the story down a bit. The storyline somewhat drags throughout and just isn't as compelling as it could be.
Although the Cascadia series is missing the same magic as the original, I still enjoyed it and will continue to listen to the complete series. I still recommend the series for anyone who loves survival/ apocalyptic stories with well developed character arcs. Even though its not as great as the previous two, it is still worlds better than a lot other crap out there.

Can't wait for the next one!!!!
How are 20 something people going to get by the broken down cars and the Lexers?... I'm now so attached to these characters that I actually lost sleep wondering how are Rose & Tom with family & friends going to move those cars without losing someone....this book of the series was especially hard to say goodbye to so many characters....even though Ethan wasn't so bad to say goodbye to....at least as an really iratting character he did something for his family.
Wow! We readers waited what felt forever....it's going to feel like an eternity for this next book....I Hope Sarah hasn't laft us wondering....
Thank you so much for your hard work, and amazing creativity....it's so good it's believable....

Pushed the boundaries of rom v zombie
When I describe these books to people, it’s as a realistic but fun zombie story…with a dose of romance at times. This though was a rom book, with a dose of zombies.
Little things, like resources suddenly seeming unlimited & whole plots taking place without without a threat of the undead left a little bit of a bad taste. The romance in this really pushed me to my limits, & I’d have stopped if not for the credit accrued from the previous books.
Some of the rom got really…weird as well…
It has it’s moments, & the bits that are good are the classic scenarios you listen to these books for. I’m going to listen to the next in the series - so that should tell you more than the negativity above. Just pushing the boundaries of what made these great.

As good as I'd hoped
Having read book one I had been eagerly waiting for the release of book two. It didn't disappoint. More colourful characters and plot twists whilst underlying stories went in the hoped for direction. SLF does it again
Who knew the zombpoc would be so emotionally charged? If you're new to the series, this is book 2 of the Cascadia series. There are 4 Povs in this series which work well together to weave a wonderful tale to showcase the best and worse of humankind.
We pick up with Rose and the gang at the fairgrounds safe zone and although it seems like everyone's trying to make the best of a really bad situation, there's always some real bad eggs that ruin everything. Nefarious plots come to light and soon, the daily routine that's been established at the safe zone in order to survive the end of the world comes to a horrendous end.
SLF takes us for a wild ride in this book and throws in heart-warming and heart-wrenching moments that readers experience through the perspectives of Rose, Tom, Clara, and Craig. Each pov is unique as it provides different opinions to enhance the story. The narrators are quite likable and the added nuances from the 4 different voices adds to the listening experience.
I can't wait for more! If you've not read or listened to the other books from SLF, I highly recommend that you do as all the books take place in this world. You don't necessarily have to read one series before starting the others which makes the books unique. Keep in mind, if you're interested in reading via publishing order, start with Until the End of the World series. The City series runs parallel to UTEOTW and the Cascadia series' time-line begins approximately a week or few days prior before the first two although it's her newest series. I am an extreme enthusiast of these books so have read/listened to them in publishing order and the very tricky time line order many times. These books have super staying power and hope more people get into them.

Wanting more
Personally, I'm biased towards this series. I was so enthralled that I reached the halfway point and end far too quickly.
There were points that I felt happened so quickly and I think that's the point considering what age is being depicted.
I simply can't wait for book 3 and 4 to finish. I guess I will listen to this and book 1 on repeat til then. I'm far too emotionally tethered to cast at this point. I'm angry, happy and I have so many unanswered questions.
