Long before the beginning of recorded time, there stood the world of Azeroth. Every kind of magical being strode the countryside among the tribes of man, and all was at peace - until the arrival of the demons and horrors of the Burning Legion and their baneful Lord Sargeras, dark god of chaotic magic. That night, visions mocked Vol’jin. He found himself in the midst of fighters, each of whom he recognized. He’d gathered them for that final assault on Zalazane, to end his madness and free the Echo Isles for the Darkspears. Each of the combatants took on aspects of a jihui cube, faced to be at their maximum power. Not a fireship among them, but this did not surprise Vol’jin.

Publisher's Summary
An all-new official prequel novel to Shadowlands, the next expansion for Blizzard Entertainment's legendary online game World of Warcraft.
"The Horde is nothing!"
With those infamous words, Sylvanas Windrunner betrayed and abandoned the Horde she vowed to serve. The Dark Lady and her forces now work in the shadows as both the Horde and Alliance race to uncover her next move. Struggling to shoulder the crushing weight of leadership, King Anduin entrusts the void elf and High Exarch Turalyon to uncover Sylvanas' whereabouts. The Horde now stands at a crossroads. The various factions form a council, leaving the mantle of warchief to rest. But the threats are numerous, and the distrust runs too deep. When the council is derailed by a failed assassination attempt on Talanji - the Zandalari queen and a key ally - Thrall and the rest of the Horde leaders are forced into action. They empower the young troll shaman Zekhan, still grieving the loss of Varok Saurfang, with a critical mission to aid Talanji and help uncover the rising threat against her.

Worst audiobook I have ever listened to.
Firstly the overall writing of this book is poorly formed and very disjointed, more importantly the narration is terrible, it appears that this is the 'artists' first read through. The forced 'Received Pronunciation' is almost unbearable from the first syllable. There is so much wrong with this title another book would need to be written to explain it. (Neither the author nor the artist needs to apply)

This book is WoW fans only.
Without knowledge of WoW this book is atrocious - there is almost no explanation about events or characters or their motivations. Narrator does not help as well - female trying to do deep male voices falls flat really hard for me.
Also - forced inclusion of LGBT at the end of the book with Shaw reqlly put me off.
I do not recommend this book to anyone.

Mediocre story, even worse narrator
One of the worst WoW books in recent history, with a narrator performance that makes it even worse. Gives off the impression of trying too hard to impersonate the characters, while failing utterly at it. Also, the story is a jumbled mess of continuity errors with no narrative structure or thought put behind.
"Mediocrity" and "forgettable" are the key words here. As well as "refund". Don't waste your credits.

Shadows are definitely rising
A novel well worth reading if you currently play the game. I was very invested and enjoyed the book. Certain mentions and interactions of characters I didn't expect were definitely the best part.
Only negative I can think is the mispronounciation of some words by the narrator (Lich King was said as Linch King once for example) and some of her male voices kind of take me out of the story sometimes. Her female voices are absolutely excellent though, especially Talanji
Bwonsamdi is involved heavily in this book, which I absolutely loved. He's my favourite character in the Warcraft universe and the author writes him absolutely perfectly. Zappy boy gets great writing too
I've seen some people say Talanji is out of character, which I also thought at first, but the further you go, the more you realise she isn't

Good book, terrible, terrible audio balancing.
STOP LETTING WRITERS DO THE VOICE ACTING.
PLEASE START USING AUDIO BALANCING SOFTWARE WHEN YOU PRODUCE AN AUDIOBOOK.
Audible, this book, sounds like it was balanced on Audacity.
the audio goes from whisperingly quiet, to screaming loud. if you try to sleep to audiobooks this isnt for you.
on top of that, the voice actress can't do the accents of the races, every troll sounds like a bastardized african accent.
can't tell the difference between, Nathanos, thrall or baine, at all.
the lady character voices are really great though.
overall, Amazingly written. but so awfully performed and produced.
go to a book store for this one.
