Publisher's Summary

The fourth in the Faithful and the Fallen series from John Gwynne, an epic fantasy perfect for fans of George R. R. Martin, Brandon Sanderson, and David Gemmell.

Events are coming to a climax in the Banished Lands, as the war reaches new heights. King Nathair has taken control of the fortress at Drassil and three of the Seven Treasures are in his possession. And together with Calidus and his ally Queen Rhin, Nathair will do anything to obtain the remaining Treasures. With all seven under his command, he can open a portal to the Otherworld. Then Asroth and his demon-horde will finally break into the Banished Lands and become flesh.

Meanwhile Corban has been taken prisoner by the Jotun, warrior giants who ride their enormous bears into battle. His warband scattered, Corban must make new allies if he hopes to survive. But can he bond with competing factions of warlike giants? Somehow he must, if he's to counter the threat Nathair represents.

His life hangs in the balance - and with it, the fate of the Banished Lands.

Fantastic Conclusion!

Wow! This was a fantastic conclusion! Initially, I struggled to get into the series, but it has improved with each book. The final installment was epic and action-packed. I could hardly put it down. After spending so much time with these characters (and growing to love them), it was so satisfying to finally see it all come together in the grand finale. And it was an impressive finale! The “final battle” is one of the best I’ve read, filled with intense fights (Gwynne particularly excels at writing action sequences) and poignant character moments. Overall, I enjoyed the series and highly recommend it.

I never write reviews but.....

I have listened to hundreds of audio books, mostly fantasy. This is one of the best series out there.
John Gwynne should be as known and loved as Sanderson. Just can not recommend these books enough! I've already purchased all three books in his next series - Of Blood and Bone, and anxiously awaiting The Dragon Unchained - expected in 2021.
Don’t miss these books!

tedious, tedious, tedious

this series could have easily been contained in two books and been good. four books with way too many blow by blow skirmishes and stupid moves by the 'good guys' made for a frustrating tedious read. I skipped most of the last third of the book because I couldn't take it any more.

Decent series

Series started strong. Ended well but became rather too predictable for me. A particular villain(won’t name them) seemed to evade death too many times for no reason other than to make me roll my eyes. Another character spent their time in and out of capture far too much for my liking and was essentially an eternal damsel in distress. The narrator was decent though some of his pronunciations really got under my skin at time. However, I’d say it this was a worthwhile experience. Check out the series.

‘And then…’

If you want 120 hrs of the worst possible outcome in an unrelenting torrent then this series is for you. It’s non stop but you will be frustrated at every step. Characters you are made to like are killed on the regular. The author is gifted, it’s just to bad he uses it for I’ll purpose.

Fantastic story, but far too long

This epic is well worth the the read or listening. The author did well at bringing it to a conclusion. My only negative is that the whole story covers four very long books. Fortunately, it was concluded in a reasonable time (about 4 years between first and final book), unlike George R.R. Martin’s Game of Thrones which he never finished. I still highly recommend this series, if you have the time to get through all the volumes.

I thought for sure there were going to be more

a fast and furious end to the series. I laughed, I teared up a couple times. I was thinking how there could have been more story but the final battle was a breakneck end. I loved the series, worth the credits in my opinion.

Absolutely Fantastic

This conclusion to John Gwynne’s Faithful and the Fallen series was incredible. It’s my favorite of all the books. He brings everything together with skill and superb storytelling skills. The action scenes are incredibly vivid. The characters are beloved. The writing is superb. I can’t recommend it highly enough.
