Publisher's Summary

When a mysterious text message summons May Wexler to a biker bar in downtown New Orleans, she knows something is very wrong. Her sister has sent out an SOS, but when May gets there, she's nowhere to be found and May is the one in trouble - she's wearing pink espadrilles, she's got a Chihuahua in her purse, and she's in the middle of a shootout.

After tall, muscular Ozzie comes to her rescue, May has no choice but to follow him to safety. At the headquarters of his private security firm, the Bourbon Street Boys, she finds a refuge for the night - and the offer of a job. But it's not long before a gun-toting stalker isn't the only complication in May's life: the more time she spends with Ozzie, the less she can deny that they've got some serious chemistry. A wrong number got her into this mess...Will it also get her the right guy?

Loved this book! :)

I wasn't sure about this book because of the overall low rating but I decided that under $10 I'll give it a listen and return it if I don't like it. I LOVED this book! I Cannot tell you how many times I LOL :). I LOL with tears when telling my husband about certain scenes. I was laughing so hard I couldn't get the words out. It has romance, one good sex scene, the mystery/suspense is light. The story focuses more on the relationship of the H/H and the secondary characters.

This is my first time listening to an Elle Casey book and I loved it. Emily Foster did a great narration/performance. I'm going to look for more books by Emily and Elle.

When I purchased this book I had just finished listening to two dark suspense thrillers and was going to go to a good 'ole funny standby but then I decided to give The Bourbon Street Boys a listen. I'm glad I did. It was great. I'm looking forward to Book 2.

Is this book worth a credit? I will have to say no since it was under $10 but I would not have been disappointed if it had cost the price of a credit.

This is a book that I will listen to over and over

Sadly, I Couldn't Finish It!

I might be in the minority, but I could not finish this story. I normally love stories that are set in New Orleans, have humor, romance and great characters, but the main character was too annoying for me.

The story is funny, which I liked, but it's told from one POV, and I think this is what killed it for me (well up to chapter 30, after that I don't know.) While the situations May got into were funny, her internal dialogue drove me crazy, and I could not take another four hours of it. There are too many audios I want to listen too, for me to try to stick out with this one.

Due to the overall plot, suspense, and secondary characters, I'm giving the story three stars. Had this been dual POV's, I probably could have finished it.

Not my cup of tea

The story itself isn't terrible, but you have to wade though May's inane stream of conscious commentary and her extremely childish actions. While the author seems to intend for the reader to see the main character as something more than a chihuahua toting bimbo, she never succeeds.

Funny, light and distracting

This book was perfect for the moment I heard it.
After a few sad, heavy stories this was like a breeze of fresh air...
The first chapters were a little slow with the heroine descriptions but it picked up and became very funny snd entertaining, a little break from the daily reality.
The narrator did a great job. I had the same fun with Rock Chick series from Kate Ashley that I love...
If you like to unwind a little and have fun, this is a good book.
I do not know if I would rate 5 stars any other day but, it was a great book for me today, I did not see the time pass...
Totally recommend for the ones looking for some time out.

Nails Against a Blackboard

This is one of the most irritating books I have ever listened. The female main character (first person narrative) spends most of the time agonizing over her feelings for the male lead, should she have sex with him, what will happen if they do, will she be good enough in bed.....and on and on it goes. The narration is dreadful - a high pitched voice splitting my scull into two. Amongst others the worst Cajun accent ever. In summary listing to this book equates to listening to nails being drawn down a blackboard without end or in my case until I deleted it from my device. I could not listen to the end. I don't know whether they had sex or whether the bad guy killed her. I'm hoping for the latter. I'm now going to my quiet place to detox.

Entertaining, LOL moments

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes. It was worth the credit. I appreciated the narrator but her man voices just didn't conjure the men she was discribing. I appreciated the humor. It was a pallet cleanser for me after heavier depressing novels.

Who was your favorite character and why?

The protagnanist.

Have you listened to any of Emily Foster’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No this was my first. Quite a. It of her dialog is immature, eye rollers, but overall I liked it. I was in the mood for this book.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

The beginning was really funny especially if you have ever had even. Tiny similar circumstance.

Ditz

I really did not like the female protagonist in this one. I rolled my eyes in the back of my head for most of the story. Everything seemed to perfect and rushed too.

Awful!

The main character is so ditzy and juvenile in the way that she speaks that I just couldn't finish it! I read others reviews and some came to like the airhead main character so I kept plodding on through 2/3 of the book trying to give it a fair chance. Sorry, I just can't take it anymore! I listen to a ridiculous number of books and this is the single worst character ever written! Her dialog sounds as though she in grade school! I love a sassy snarky female lead but this one sounds so dumb that I cannot possibly buy into any guy being remotely attracted to her.
If we could swap out the main female character, this may be a decent book. The plot has promise but good luck getting through it without cringing every time the female lead speaks. So so bad!

I did not enjoy this book at all.

The lead character was insipid and a constant contradiction. she was supposed to be smart, graduated Summa cume laude, but constantly need the most obvious things explained to her. Maybe the author assumed her readers were dumb. The narration added to the vapid air surround the heroine. Thankfully by the end of the book she gave up her half hearted attempt to pull off a Cajun accent. I cannot recommend this book.

Bimbo heroine

nothing wrong with narrator but really did not want to waste time listening about a bimbo with a tiny dog.

It has charm

It is a light and easy read, not much depth is given to the story or characters but it has a lot of charm. The audio book is well matched but, as usual, I missed a male voice being used for the male lead.

Don't bother

The one star is for the story idea which could have been so good. I gave up on it in the end.
The female character is so annoying. At first I thought it might be the narrator that annoyed me but the character's constant internal debates and freak outs over nothing were just too much. I skipped a few parts that were so cringe worthy listening to her.
There is no character development. How can the reader fall for ozzy and may when we know nothing about ozzy at all really. A male POV would help this but even without the characters having conversations about their past etc. would help.
The only consolation is it was free to listen to with my kindle app so didn't waste credit. if I had I'd be asking for exchange.
I was tempted to try the second book as the sister may be completely different but honestly if the author can't develop their characters I can't see it being much better tbh.

light and funny

Light hearted, loved the dog relationship it made the book for me.
Otherwise it was a bit twee for me.
I can understand her beating Dev with an unexpected tazer but she was no martial arts student all a bit too unbelievable for me.
I will listen to the other books though as I liked the characters.

starts great but...

the love story part happened a bit too quick. I didn't feel like we got to find out enough about Ozzie. He seemed to have so much depth but the story just ended suddenly and we didn't get to find out more. some great humor tho, especially for the first half of the book.

disappointed

I really liked the start of it, it was engaging. There was some word choices and the way the main character, May, reacted that made it feel not very genuine and broke the spell that a story weaves. I also hate the sex scenes, I'm no prude, but I just found them unsatisfying and awkward to listen to, compared to others I have read or listened to. I also personally was disappointed he actually owned a security company having worked in one means, I thought he was an undercover cop.

entertaining book buy felt short

Overall it is an OK book. The characters are entertaining but the story felt a bit too superficial.
