Story
One of Jane Austen’s most beloved works, Pride and Prejudice, is vividly brought to life by Academy Award nominee Rosamund Pike ( Gone Girl). In her bright and energetic performance of this British classic, she expertly captures Austen’s signature wit and tone. Her attention to detail, her literary background, and her performance in the 2005 feature film version of the novel provide the perfect foundation from which to convey the story of Elizabeth Bennet, her four sisters, and the inimitable Mr. Darcy.

Story
Shocking and controversial when it was first published in 1939, Steinbeck's Pulitzer prize-winning epic The Grapes of Wrath remains his undisputed masterpiece. Set against the background of Dust Bowl Oklahoma and Californian migrant life, it tells of Tom Joad and his family, who, like thousands of others, are forced to travel west in search of the promised land. Their story is one of false hopes, thwarted desires, and broken dreams, yet out of their suffering Steinbeck created a drama that is intensely human, yet majestic in its scale and moral vision.

Rule by head or rule by heart? Elinor Dashwood is a great believer in "sense," while her exuberant younger sister Marianne feels keenly that only "sensibility" (what today we'd call passion) serves to guide the heart. Through vicissitudes and, in the case of Marianne, outright betrayal by her lover, these two women learn the value in the other's outlook, and thereby prepare themselves for later domestic bliss that is the hallmark resolution of Jane Austen's novels.

Anne Elliott foolishly let true love slip through her fingers when she allowed herself to be persuaded that the man she adored was an unacceptable candidate for marriage. Publisher's Summary
Winner of Audible UK’s 2017 Narrator of the Year Award
In an Audible Exclusive production, Golden Globe winner Joanne Froggatt gives a powerhouse performance of Wuthering Heights, Emily Brontë's only published novel. This edition features an exclusive introduction written by Ann Dinsdale, Chief Curator of the Brontë Museum.
About the book
The unapologetic intensity with which Emily Brontë wrote this story ensures that it will forever be considered one of the greatest works of English literature. A passionate tale of a chaotic and often violent love, Wuthering Heights transcends your average romance and, with its Gothic undertones, takes the listener on a journey through one man's lustful hunt for revenge.
Believing he has been spurned by Cathy Earnshaw, the only woman he has ever loved, Heathcliff abandons the wild moors of Wuthering Heights, fervently wishing to reestablish himself as the wealthy gentleman he believes Cathy seeks. Having been successful in his ventures, he later returns to the adoptive family who raised him and hungrily seeks to punish those who once rejected him.
In an exclusive introduction written for this edition by Ann Dinsdale, Chief Curator of the Bronte Museum, discover how critical and public opinion of Wuthering Heights has changed over time.
About the author
Perhaps unsurprisingly, Emily is said to have had the most unusual character of all the Brontë sisters. A reserved character with few close acquaintances outside her family circle, Emily's dark and passionate nature is clearly reflected in her tale. Having been the consummate lover of animals and nature, in this book she also set out to paint an unforgettable picture of the stark and imposing moors that she so enjoyed walking along.
Having developed a highly intelligent writing style, Emily ensures that the listener is emotionally involved throughout and often even a little horrified at the events that take place. A true work of art, Wuthering Heights surpasses expectation with its Gothic love scenes and desolate landscapes. Emily Brontë's only published work, it stands alone and will forever imprint itself upon the listener's memory.
About the narrator
Joanne Froggatt is an English stage, film and television actress who shot to fame after her engaging portrayal of Downton Abbey's Anna Bates. Also celebrated for her roles in Dinnerladies, A Street Cat Named Bob, Murder in the Outback and Liar, Joanne has now been acting for over 20 years and brings a wealth of expertise to her narratives. Having voiced an Alice in Wonderland series as well as Audible's 2017 Thriller of the Year, Silent Child, Joanne succeeds once more in delivering an incredibly engaging performance in this unique and exquisite adaptation of Emily Brontë's Wuthering Heights.

Almost Peerless
I am a huge fan of Wuthering Heights. My book obsessed Mom gave it to me when I was a little boy and told me it was one of her favourite books. I mostly loved it that first time because of the ghostly romance, but also, I loved it because she wanted me to.
As the years moved on, though, other reasons made me love it more and more. A mentor of mine adored the book, and her take on it made me love Bronte's rich use of language and the way she captured her characters' voices. My own study of the book made me love Bronte's daring when it came to the unlikability of the denizens of Wuthering Heights and Thrushcross Grange. And when I went on to teach the book, as I have a score of times by now (I've lost count, actually), I found myself marvelling -- and still do -- that the story really isn't about Heathcliff and Catherine and their love at all, but about the woman telling the story to Mr. Lockwood. The idea that Nelly Dean is the true star of Wuthering Heights blows my mind more than anything else Bronte did in the book (and that was quite a lot).
And I loved this book so much that I named my eldest daughter Bronte, after Emily (not Charlotte nor Anne, although I love them too).
It was a joy, then, to find such a wonderful performance of a favourite book. There could not have been a better reader for this than Joanne Froggatt. From Joseph's barely discernible vernacular to Catherine's passionate struggles with the men in her life, from Heathcliff's anguish to Lockwood's stupidity, Froggatt (marvelous as Anna in Downton Abbey) strikes the perfect note for everyone. It is, however, her performance as the narrator of the story, Nelly Dean, for which she is most suited, and the dominance of Nelly to the story means that Froggatt is able to command our attention effortlessly throughout. I have a feeling that Joanne Froggatt gets Nelly Dean. It certainly sounds like she does.
The only "audible exclusive" I've heard that has matched Froggatt's (so far) is Rosamund Pike's reading of Pride and Prejudice. As a pair, they are the two best audiobook performances I have heard. You won't regret giving this version of Wuthering Heights a listen. Trust me. And I'd be willing to bet that if you were never the biggest fan of this dark, brooding, Victorian Gothic classic but were thinking of giving it another try, that this version and Joanne Froggatt's performance will make you a fan.

Wonderful reader, terrible story
I read this book as a teen and hated it, but struggled through just to get to the end. I thought I would give it another try from the perspective of a couple decades later and my original opinion of it as a story of terrible people treating each other terribly for generations still stands. Where exactly other people find romance in all of this I guess I will never understand! However, I did gain a new appreciation for the author’s talent in creating her (terrible) characters and their world, and the reader was so impressive that I would gladly seek out other things she performs.

THE NARRATION WAS A PROBLEM FOR ME.
I’ve read the book & seen all the movies. I’ve loved this book since I was a child. I had a difficult time deciphering Joanne Froggats speech. Ive listened to her narrate other books flawlessly. But with this one, I found myself guessing what she said & often having to rewind because I didn’t know which character was speaking. It was annoying & distracting. Halfway through I just gave up on it. It’s a shame because it’s a wonderful love story. I really preferred reading the printed book to listening to this version of one of my all time favorite stories. If you can find another version of this with a different narrator then I suggest you listen to that one. The narration was a real problem for me. I listen to about three Audible books a week. I prefer English accent narration, just not this one, not this time. I just couldn't get through it. I hope this is helpful.

Excellent narrator for a classic book!
I found the narrator to being very engaged in the story and she brought the characters to life while keeping the story feeling very Gothic. I recall reading this book when I was 12yrs, but never really enjoyed it. After listening to this version of the story it was much more enjoyed and each chapter drove me deeper in to the story. Highly recommend this if you are a fan of the Bronte Sisters work. Jane Eyre will always my favorite classic novel, but this made for an enjoyable read.

Wonderful performance
I'm not sure how I never got around to Wuthering Heights as it was a heartened favourite of my mother's but finally I have! Joanne's performance made the old fashioned language easy to follow and understand (probably what had put me off all this time!). Her portrayal of Heathcliffe made me so angry at him I'd frequently sit on the commute to work with a frown at his actions, having to remember it was fiction and not stay annoyed ha! You won't be disappointed.

Disappointing
This is my first encounter with Wuthering Heights and I was extremely disappointed. Having recently enjoyed Jayne Eyre I was excited to listen to and experience Wuthering Heights. I just didn't enjoy the story line. I understand that it was unique at the time it was written and released. I just didn't enjoy it but that's my personal opinion. It is a classic loved by millions so don't be put off by my review. Joanne Froggatt's performance is excellent however. I highly recommend Jane Eyre though.

A True Taste of Yorkshire
I have loved this book for many years and to have it read so eloquently by a Yorkshire actress is perfect. She breathes life into every sentence and character. This must be the best reading of this story. Ever. Loved it.

Full of unpleasant people
I don't think I've ever read a book populated by such a range of unpleasant people. After the first few chapters I would've been more than happy if they had all been struck by lightening and the book came to an early end. Because I didn't have much empathy for the characters it wasn't an easy listening book, but it was a very good one that is worth listening to to the end.

Excellent narration.
I could have listened to Joanne Froggart all day. Switched easily between characters and accents.

I don't know why I didnt enjoy this
Started strong, yet then powered through this just to be able to get to the end hopeful that the ending was going to make everything better. It didn't. Assume this is one of those 'you either love ot or you hate it' things. Not that I regret it however wish I'd not done it as so to delegate the same time to the long list of books to read. idk. This is just how I feel now I've just finished it and strictly my own personal opinion. I may grow to reflect on the story with a certain fondness.

I never tire of this story
This classic book is so beautifully narrated - it was a pleasure to listen too. I’ve always loved this gothic-style tale - but I think new listeners/readers need to be aware that this really is quite a dark tale - before they read it. Even though it’s a love story - it’s definitely not a romantic fairy tale. I highly recommend it.

ridiculously stupid characters
leading female character chooses to allow herself to die because her friend and husband fight, I hated them all and feel like I've lost brain cells because of this book.

Highly overrated or just has a niche appeal
Perhaps it is considered great literature for the period, but I found it highly contrived, meandering and containing only shallow and obvious messages. Over the top is a fair summary. The narrator was good but some of the accents would be difficult for many (me included).

Narration Makes Classic Perfect
Joanne Froggatt's narration of 'Wuthering Heights' was the perfect partnership to Emily Bronte's tale of family dysfunction and passion.

a truly amazing read
what a classic and to think it was written in the mid 1800th by a young lady. One book that should be revisited always. I could not stop listening.
