Story
We were fighting on the wrong side of a war we couldn't win. And that was the good news. The Ruhar hit us on Columbus Day. There we were, innocently drifting along the cosmos on our little blue marble, like the native Americans in 1492. Over the horizon come ships of a technologically advanced, aggressive culture, and BAM! There go the good old days, when humans only got killed by each other. So, Columbus Day. It fits. When the morning sky twinkled again, this time with Kristang starships jumping in to hammer the Ruhar, we thought we were saved.

It was just a random mutation - one of a billion that happen in viruses every day. But this one was different. It exploded out of Somalia and spread across the oceans before anybody thought to look up from their cell phones to see what was going on. The infected breathed the virus into the air around them, spreading it through the cities faster than anyone thought possible. Hospitals were overwhelmed. Police lines crumbled. Quarantine sites disintegrated. Cities started to collapse.

I can only say it's been 6 seasons and I'm still wanting more. Series review - CHILD RAPE.
I waited until I finished all 6 books before spewing my opinion. I feel like this series should've stopped after book 2 or 3. The story line repeats itself a lot. This person died then came back again,.. and again, and again. Multiple worlds, multiple versions of characters. It's like listening to a combination of Cocoon, The Matrix, Star Wars, Back to the Future, Fringe and The Walking Dead. If you've listened to the full series, you can probably pick out what I mean. Especially, from #6.
A side-story of a "Terminus"-like situation from The Walking Dead didn't need to be included in this. Brutality is an unfortunate thing in apocalyptic stories, but rape of a child is too much.

So many abandoned plot threads
The authors were pretty good at laying on mystery after mystery, but so many of those threads were just abandoned.
mild spoilers ahead.
Why was Charlie immune to mutation?
What was going on with Borissio's blackouts? What happened to his random sword?
What was special about Marina that the darkness couldn't possess her?
Why didn't a spaceship arrive on the other earth?
Why did the light pull over random people such at little kids?
What did the darkness do with the other vials?
How did all the people on the other world actually die in the middle of the night?
What happened to this world's Luis?
What happened to Roman? How did he escape?
The list goes on and on, but non of it really matters because the resolution to the whole six season main plot is just "more power of love magic!"
It feels harsh to say it, but this is a lot like how Game of Thrones ended.

Very disappointing. Proved that the authors didn't really know where they were going this whole time with the series.
The writing continually felt very lazy (sudden everybody's a telepath!)
Without wanting to spoil anything, this book made many of the the storylines from previous books completely pointless.
