Back when restaurant menus were still printed on paper, and wearing a mask—or not—was a decision made mostly on Halloween, David Sedaris spent his time doing normal things. As Happy-Go-Lucky opens, he is learning to shoot guns with his sister, visiting muddy flea markets in Serbia, buying gummy worms to feed to ants, and telling his nonagenarian father wheelchair jokes. But then the pandemic hits, and like so many others, he’s stuck in lockdown, unable to tour and read for audiences, the part of his work he loves most.

Now, in Start Without Me, Janetti returns with a hilarious collection about how sometimes the things we most want to get done and over with are the ones that define us for a lifetime. What is it really like to be a housewife? We all want to know, but only the women we love to watch and the people who make the show have the whole story. Well, listen in close, because they’re about to tell all. Nearly all the wives, producers, and network executives, as well as Andy Cohen himself, are on the record, unfiltered and unvarnished about what it really takes to have a tagline. This is your VIP pass to the lives behind the glam squads, testimonials, and tabloid feuds. Life’s not all diamonds and rosé, but the truth is so much better, isn’t it?

Yearbook is a collection of true stories that I desperately hope are just funny at worst, and life-changingly amazing at best. Publisher's Summary
You'll Grow Out of It hilariously and candidly explores the journey of the 21st-century woman.
As both a tomboy and a late bloomer, comedian Jessi Klein grew up feeling more like an outsider than a participant in the rites of modern femininity.
In You'll Grow Out of It, Klein offers - through an incisive collection of real-life stories - a relentlessly funny yet poignant take on a variety of topics she has experienced along her strange journey to womanhood and beyond. These include her "transformation from Pippi Longstocking-esque tomboy to are-you-a-lesbian-or-what tom man", attempting to find watchable porn, and identifying the difference between being called "ma'am" and "miss" ("miss sounds like you weigh 99 pounds").
Raw, relatable, and consistently hilarious, You'll Grow Out of It is a one-of-a-kind book by a singular and irresistible comic voice.

40?! Try 60!.
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Absolutely. After 40 women are all basically the same age. There was very little in this book any woman well into the Ma'm phase would not identify with.
What was one of the most memorable moments of You'll Grow Out of It?
The embarrassing, cringe inducing, achingly familiar complete awfulness of dating a man that wears loafers without socks. Are they stamped out of a mold on an undiscovered planet that might be called Tasselvania?
What does Jessi Klein bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Her voice obviously. If a memoir, autobiography, etc is read by the author I always choose to listen. If that person is also hysterically funny all the better. I will still buy the book, It is hard to find especially juicy passages in the audio books..
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I did, although I wasn't sitting. I was gardening, walking my dog, hanging out the laundry, all the while laughing like a crazy woman.
Any additional comments?
Thank you Jessi Klein and take comfort that you are stil 20 years from flyers offering cremation services.

I like this woman so much!
What did you love best about You'll Grow Out of It?
Her honesty.
What did you like best about this story?
She didn't omit anything that I would have been curious about if she hadn't included it! She bravely went all the way there.
Which scene was your favorite?
I suppose I'd have to choose The Cad chapter; the condom incident as related to Terry Gross was my introduction to Jessi and her book. I loved working through her process of learning that she is a true comedian. Jesters and music keep us sane.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
She Didn't Grow Out of It (and I'm glad).
Any additional comments?
As a 72-year old woman, I felt especially privileged to be part of Jessi's audience.

Started out a little slow, glad I stuck it out.
Would you consider the audio edition of You'll Grow Out of It to be better than the print version?
I can't read the print book while I'm working out or cooking dinner. For someone like me who thrives with many plates in the air at a time, having something entertaining to listen to while schlepping through mundane tasks and chores is a necessary element. And I don't have to sit still to do it.
What was one of the most memorable moments of You'll Grow Out of It?
It's going to sound crazy, but the chapter "Get the Epidural" was pivotal for me. The very last line brought me to my knees. Life is hard. Mothering is hard, an often isolating experience in which you're constantly judged and endlessly second guessing yourself. This chapter, her words, were validation for me. I cried so hard on those last few words that I had to pause the book and pull myself together. It was powerful.
What about Jessi Klein’s performance did you like?
Her sense of humor towards herself, while self deprecating, was genuine. I felt like I was listening to a friend tell me about what was new in her life. It took me a few chapters to warm up to her (I had no idea who she was when the book started) but after I got to somewhat know her through a few chapters, I couldn't wait to hear her take on the next topic. I kept thinking, I could hang out with her. Her chapter on her experience at the Emmy's, on chasing happiness, it was just so emotionally vivid and I found myself relating to it on so many levels.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I started out listening to it just at the gym and while cooking, but after the first few chapters, I would listen to it leaving the gym and in my car, which is the highest compliment I can pay an audiobook, as I am generally fully in camp "Music in the Car". On more than one trip home from the gym, I sat in my own driveway to listen to the end of a chapter before going in the house.
Any additional comments?
Loved this book. Love Jessi. Loved her story. Pretty sure that if I met her, I'd go full on crazed fan and run up and hug her. She's my spirit animal. Her dedication of "this butterfly" in the acknowledgements made me tear up thinking of how wonderful it must be for her parents to have their daughter acknowledge their contribution to her life's work. That would be worth a lifetime of waiting, even if I'm not lucky enough to get it in a book dedication.

Similar to Bosseypants & How To Be a Woman
I couldn’t be more thrilled that lots of female comedians are following in Tina Fey’s “Bosseypants” footsteps and bringing out their own irreverent autobiographies. All of the ones I’ve read so far are, in fact, better than Fey’s and “You’ll Grow Out of It” is no exception. I picked this up because it was recommended as similar to “How to be a Woman” by Caitlin Moran. The books definitely share the same gene pool: both funny, both hyper-honest about the trials of being a Modern Woman, and both inspiring about what it takes to follow your career dreams. The difference between the two books, and what made Klein’s book a 4-star read (instead of the 5 stars I gave to Moran) is that Klein’s essays were lighter. With one or two exceptions (her early disavowal of wearing any clothing that looked vaguely feminine and her very funny rejection of natural childbirth methods spring to mind) Klein doesn’t get quite as deeply into questioning social norms and the cultural background of Big City life as does Moran. Still, a highly enjoyable book (made even better in audio format read by Klein—who by the way sounds a LOT like Terry Gross). I would definitely pick up another should she choose to write one (fingers crossed).

I liked it.
This book was very relatable in some parts, but completely unrelatable in other parts. However, even the unrelatable parts were entertaining. Because even though I'll never go to some of the world class spas and hotels she describes, it was entertaining to hear how the upper class lives. There's also many parts on failed relationships, good relationships, career choices, and generally about being a woman that are so honest, funny and relatable. Having the author read her own work definitely adds a lot of charm to this book. I liked it a lot. I want to be her poor little wolf friend.

Jessi Klein is ALL OF US
Any additional comments?
There were many moments in Jessi Klein's book where I exclaimed, "YES! That IS exactly how I feel compared to all the pretty girls!" and I think many listeners will also relate to Klein's half-life story (she is only 40, after all). We've all gone through puberty, difficult break ups, and had the crippling self-doubt that comes with being a female (although if you're a dude, you'll still enjoy listening to this).
There are probably hundreds of books that have a similar "let me tell you my life story" concept on Audible, but Klein's self-deprecating and aware voice sharpens these mundane, collective experiences into something special that is simultaneously sad and funny.
Klein narrates her story in a voice that's part-NPR and part-drunk, which I thought was fitting as her life has this constant tug-of-war between maintaining control and losing her sh*t.
All in all, a very satisfying read.
