Publisher's Summary

Youth wasted on the young? Not in this provocative, darkly comic short story of cold-blooded dreams by the cowriter of Ant-Man and the Wasp.

In the near future, older generations can reverse the aging process through weekly transfusions while, far removed from the realities of the outside world, aimless postmillennials or “blood chickens” can live a life of guiltless bliss in idyllic youth farms. Among the first wave of volunteer donors are Billy Cantor and Frankie Halifax, who quickly bond over their dream paradise. What’s not to love? Wine tastings, parties, yoga, and all the organic avocados they can eat. Best of all: not a single care in the world until their thirty-fifth birthdays. Then Billy and Frankie discover a few cracks in nirvana. And the reality that awaits them is the furthest thing from what they imagined.

Young Blood is part 1 of the Young Blood Trilogy, a provocative and darkly satiric commentary on youthful dreams and cold-blooded reality. Read or listen in a single sitting.

::trigger warning ::

This is a good short story, but let it be known that there is some moderately detailed description of sexual abuse toward the end.

Good

Good story. My only issue was the fake “man” voice during Frankie’s chapters. Literally like nails on a chalkboard. I would have quit the book because of it, but the story kept me hooked.

Well worth it!

Excellent read! Couldn't put it down until the end! Albeit short...which doesn't detract from my enjoying the book...it's well written and narrated using an interesting format. The characters come alive in this compelling story; particularly for its relevance with today's events. It brings back shivering memories of books I grew up with in the late 60's, such as, 1984 and Animal Farm. A reminder of our need to be vigilant!

Amazingly topical and twisted in the best way

This book really made me think and that’s my favorite sort of book. Although it’s fiction - like a good sci-fi it fits right into the realm of possibility for our future and more so the magic for me are the parallels it evokes to the present. Enjoy.

Harvesting Blood

I enjoyed this story, the narration was very good, I like how they had 3 different narrators for the 3 main characters.

Young Blood

This story was not what I was expecting. It turned out to be different and much better. It would make a great film or better still, TV show. I'm not going to spoil it for you, readers have to find out for themselves. It is a millennial dream turned nightmare, a smart, biting satire with truth. The author is the co-author of the Marvel film Ant Man and the Wasp, which I loved. I read this book using immersion reading while listening to the audiobook version. The narrators perfectly fit the material and brought the perfect balance of emotion and snark that was needed. An excellent story.

Great story

I read half and listened to the last half. Narrators were great and was seamless switching between reading and listening.

A different of kind of Utopia

This was quite something, and I'll be sure to listen to "Blue Dog" and "Crescent Moon" next.
What a crazy SciFi social experiment!
A futuristic story of consented imprisonment of young adults in their 20s, with required opioid intake and regular blood letting - as young peoples blood has become the wishing well of youth for the older generation.

Loved the performance for Billy - not sure which of the gentlemen listed was his narrator.
