Story
The causes of Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder range from severe neglect to monstrous abuse. Many survivors grew up in houses that were not homes-in families that were as loveless as orphanages and sometimes as dangerous. If you felt unwanted, unliked, rejected, hated, and/or despised for a lengthy portion of your childhood, trauma may be deeply engrained in your mind, soul, and body. This book is a practical guide to recovering from lingering childhood trauma. It is copiously illustrated with examples of the author's and his clients' journeys of recovering.

Story
But It’s Your Family is a remarkable account of what it means to cut ties to toxic family abuse and thrive in the aftermath. Loving someone doesn’t always mean having a relationship with them, just like forgiveness doesn’t always mean reconciliation. Reconciling, in many cases, only sets people up for more abuse. A significant part of healing comes with accepting that this is a part of life; there are some relationships that are so poisonous that they destroy one’s ability to be healthy and function best.

This book changed my life
I'm finally validated in my thoughts and feelings for years I was told I was selfish, self centered and vapid. For example, I was running errands for my mother on my wedding day! Any normal person would see this as wrong and unconscionable but to her, she was spending all this money on me, it's the least I could do... just reading this book is like going through 10 years of therapy! Highly recommend!!

Spot on and very helpful for victims.
I generally like this book but the extensive and multiple chapters on EMP a technique that I’m not really sure about might’ve been a bit much. One maybe two examples would have been plenty but 4-5 chapters on just that one modality was too much. Everything else was spot on and so nice to get validation on some shared experiences of other victims.

Amazing book on narcissistic mothers and the damage they do!
This is such an amazing book on the subject of narcissistic mothers, it should be required reading. Danu Morrigan does a wonderful job as both author and narrator: it feels like sitting across from a friend who truly gets what you're going through and what you've been through. Her EFT scripts are FANTASTIC - and I say this as someone who has been practicing EFT for nearly 20 years.
For anyone who has survived a narcissistic mother, this book should absolutely be one to read and read again (or listen to over and over, for the audiobook). I also have the Kindle version so I could highlight especially notable parts, of which there are many.
Even if you've heard or read other books on the subject, get this one as well! It's truly wonderful and helpful more than words can say.

HealingBalmForInvisibleWoundsSurvivorsOfDONM
IF you are a daughter[err, survivor] of a narcissistic mother.... THIS BOOK IS A MUST HAVE!!!.... The book was of course absolutely great in every possible way..... If you are a D.O.N.M. (Daughter Of a Narcissistic Mother); as Ms./Mrs. Morrigan, (thankfully), simplifies into an acronym. For us fellow Daughters[survivors] Of Narcissistic Mothers.... I have found there is healing when we share our stories. I don't give a flippin flippity flip-flop dippity-tha-tha-doo-doo-doo all the flippin floppity flim flam all the dippity-doo day long... If you think I'm corny when I say I believe from my own experience and shared experience of others, there is such POWERFUL HEALING when we come together listen and share because we do form our own pack, tribe, sisterhood that no one else can fully understand. There's so much value in that. you will find that here. links to other resources. website all kinds of extra stuff.

Life changer for myself.
This book was written by someone with their experience and knowledge and although ours were different, they were exactly the same. Everything I needed to feel heard was in this book and it was only myself listening. I can’t tell you how this has opened me up. My mother started her abuse of me at a very young age and I have learnt through this all the aspects I still blessed myself for.
I threw my mobile down at least three times out of frustration. As I thought something Danu would answer it!
I am programmed to make everything my fault. This threw that out of the window.
Thank you

Fantastic, very helpful.
This book has proved to be nothing short of a life saver. Although the book is based on mother and daughter, being the son of a narcissistic mother it still tansfers well. Because of the experiences the author describes in detail being so close to what I have experienced, I have had to listen (audible version) over three months. The realisation is painful in my own experience and found it difficult to process over a short period. It has been immensely helpful. From my experience the realisation of years of pondering and self blame have been difficult and harmful. This book and the experience portrayed by the author have helped me so much and made me realise it isnt me that is broken. Also that I am not alone.Thank you so much. One word of advice the exercises towards the end of the book may help you at an early stage. So perhaps listen to the author at the beginning and the flick to the exercises at the back section. Thank you so much. I will be listening/reading again.

You’re Not Crazy
This book is the best I have ever come across about narcissistic mothers and their effect on your life. I have read about 7 of them. Danu knows what it was like. She articulates the fears, the issues and the sheer awfulness of having a narcissistic mother.
I was extremely cynical of the Emotional Freedom Technique but not only does it work but her phrases and descriptions of how it is are spot on and extremely effective. For example the one where “I am giving myself self-care with ease” has turned my life around.
She describes a narcissistic mother perfectly and some of her descriptions actually made me laugh out loud. I think she must have actually met my mother she is so accurate!
I cannot recommend this book highly enough if your childhood and the rest of your life was blighted by a selfish and narcissistic mother.

This book is my mother to a T...
My friend recommended this book to me as I've struggled my whole life to deal with my mother's behaviour. This book comfirmed stuff I did already know but it was a good thing to reconfirm. I now need to understand why on lookers when I was a child did nothing to stop it or help me. My family haven't spoken to me for years because of my mums lies which hurt very much so. This is something I need to deal with as well. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone. I hope one day before I die I can find inner peace from the pain she has and caused me.

Got more out of the first half
I have listened to many books on this topic. This one has been my favourite so far. Only negative is the EFT program in the second half, I struggled to get through those sections as I don't feel that they will work for me. Otherwise first half of book was very helpful.

Love this book!
This is a warm, entertaining but informative look at narcissistic mothers and their impact on their children. The author gives simple, practical tips for maintaining healthy boundaries and refreshingly, doesn’t encourage the child of the narcissistic mother to forgive or understand them. I recommend this to so many people!

A liberating life changing release- thank you!
Truly liberating! This straight talking, no punches pulled, awakening of a direct and simple explanation bundled with caring compassion, will truly have you shouting “OMG! That’s me, that’s my life! That’s my mother! A saviour of a book. I’m so very, very grateful for Danu and her clear, concise and accurate insight. You will never know how grateful I am that I found this book and you.
You’re not broken... it’s your mother! You’re not crazy it’s your mother!

So accurate.
It felt like it had been written for me. So validating to hear someone else say what you have known for years but struggled to fully accept.
