Lou Prophet is in mixed company these days. He doesn’t mind being close to his pretty pistol-packing partner, Louisa Bonaventure. Known as the Vengeance Queen, she has his back — and dare he say it, part of his heart. But accompanying the vile outlaw Blanco Metalious back to Nugget Town to see him hang isn’t exactly Lou’s idea of a good time.

Legendary Montana lawman Ben Stillman is transporting a prisoner, a former friend of his, back to the town where the man and his gang had robbed a bank to stand trial. Stillman’s also packing the stolen loot. Along the way he picks up a young White woman and her Indian boy who are on the run from a pack of bloodthirsty human wolves led by a prominent area rancher. The rancher wants revenge on the woman because she killed the man’s son in self-defense. Stillman finds himself on the run from not only the woman’s enemies but from his prisoner’s gang, as well.

Love and death, bullets and blood.... Sheriff Ben Stillman finds himself in the unenviable position of having to arrest a young man for murder on suspicious evidence. But the cards are stacked against the young firebrand who calls himself Johnny Nevada. One, Johnny has gotten Judge Hoagland’s daughter pregnant, shaming and enraging Hoagland himself. Two, Johnny warned Dave Bliss he was going to kill him because Bliss ordered Johnny to stay away from Bliss’s daughter, Sarah, whom the young Casanova was also sparking. Johnny made the warning public and two weeks later Bliss was dead.

Most of bounty hunter Lou Prophet’s man-hunting jobs have been purely business transactions that he’s carried out with cool professionalism. He’s seldom seen the depravations his quarries have committed to earn a price on their heads. But when the Red River Gang raids the town of Luther Falls, Prophet witnesses it in person - and can’t do a thing to stop it. It’ll be days before anyone can organize a posse - and a small girl has been kidnapped by the cold-blooded outlaws. Prophet will have to go it alone.

Life’s been pretty good for Cuno Massey since he went into the freight business with Wade Scanlon. Good, that is, until Scanlon stops in at a saloon and gets shot dead by a band of outlaws. When Massey comes upon his friend in a pine box with his freight wagon plundered and burned, he has one goal: to find the killers.

When Sheriff Ben Stillman’s deputy and best friend, Leon McMannigle, shoots a young woman who was about to shoot Stillman in the back, Leon takes the outlaw girl’s lifeless body back to her mountain ranch to turn her over to her family. He feels the need to explain himself, to personally account for the girl’s death. His explanation falls on deaf ears. Old Watt Hollister sends his wild sons led by his eldest boy, Nash, out on the trail to exact revenge for their poor dead sister. Wounded, McMannigle is alone and on the run in the Two-Bear Mountains, hunted.
