The Christlike character and divine personality of Bhagavân Srî Râmakrishna is revered and worshiped in India today as an ideal manifestation of the divine glory. His life was so extraordinary and unparalleled that within 10 years after his departure from earth, it aroused the admiration, wonder, and reverence not only of all classes of people in his own country, but of many distinguished English and German scholars of the 19th century.

You see many stars in the sky at night, but not when the sun rises. Can you therefore say that there are no stars in the heavens during the day? O man, because you cannot find God in the days of your ignorance, say not that there is no God. 

True religion is extremely practical; it is, indeed, based entirely upon practice and not upon theory or speculation of any kind, for religion begins only where theory ends. Its object is to mold the character, unfold the divine nature of the soul, and make it possible to live on the spiritual plane, its ideal being the realization of Absolute Truth and the manifestation of Divinity in the actions of the daily life. 

As the human form, generally, corresponds to the human will, generally, so the individual bodily structure corresponds to the character, desires, will, and thought of the individual. Therefore the outer nature is nothing but the expression of the inner nature. This inner nature of each individual is what re-incarnates or expresses itself successively in various forms, one after another. When a man dies the individual ego or Jîva (as it is called in Sanskrit), which means the germ of life or the living soul of man, is not destroyed, but it continues to exist in an invisible form.

La filosofia Vedânta comprende i diversi rami della Scienza dello Yoga. Quattro di queste sono già state trattate a lungo dallo Swâmi Vivekananda nelle sue opere su "Râja Yoga", "Karma Yoga", "Bhakti Yoga" e "Jnâna Yoga"; ma non esisteva una rassegna breve e consecutiva della scienza nel suo insieme. È per soddisfare questa necessità che è stato scritto il presente volume. In un capitolo introduttivo sono esposti la vera provincia della religione e il pieno significato della parola "spiritualità" come è intesa in India.
