On March 28, 1944, six-year-old Tati and her four-year-old sister, Andra, were roused from their sleep and arrested. Along with their mother, Mira, their aunt, and cousin Sergio, they were deported to Auschwitz. Over 230,000 children were deported to the camp, where Josef Mengele, the Angel of Death, performed deadly experiments on them. Only a few dozen children survived, Tati and Andra among them.

On 28th March 1944, Italian sisters Tati (six) and Andra (four) were roused from their sleep and taken to Auschwitz, to the infamous Kinder Block, presided over by Josef Mengele, the Angel of Death. By the time Auschwitz was liberated, 230,000 children had been murdered, and Andra and Tati were among 70 child survivors. They were sent to Lingfield House in Britain, a home for children orphaned or lost at the end of the war. 

La sera del 28 marzo 1944 i violenti colpi alla porta di casa fanno riemergere negli adulti della famiglia Perlow antichi incubi. La pace trovata a Fiume, dopo un lungo peregrinare per l'Europa cominciato agli inizi del Novecento in fuga dai pogrom antiebraici, finisce bruscamente: nonna, figli e nipoti vengono arrestati e, dopo una breve sosta nella Risiera di San Sabba a Trieste, deportati ad Auschwitz-Birkenau, dove molti di loro saranno uccisi.
