Anthropologist Domenica MacDonald observes the lives of her neighbours and the neighbourhood in Edinburgh's New Town. Pat, a new young tenant, arrives at 44 Scotland Street to flat share with Bruce. Bruce is a surveyor with more of an eye for the ladies than a sound property. We're introduced to five-year-old Bertie, who is controlled by his pretentious and intellectual mother, Irene - he's learning the saxophone, speaks Italian, and is extremely knowledgeable about many subjects.

Set in Edinburgh’s Georgian New Town, these two BBC radio series follow the quirky adventures and ‘goings-on’ of the various inhabitants of 44 Scotland Street, where life and love are full of surprises. Little Bertie Pollock is at the centre of it all, and in Series 4, Edinburgh’s most hot-housed seven-year-old receives a rare respite from his weekly Italian, yoga and psychotherapy sessions when his ambitious mother, Irene, goes travelling.

They're an unlikely couple of cops - he's grizzled, old-school and wears a cardigan; she's young, instinctive and wields a Blackberry. But together they tackle cases so tough, they'd make Frost flinch and Rebus run away.... 

Michelle has been in drug rehab for the last few months, Dad has disappeared and the kids have been under a supervision order. But now Michelle is coming out of rehab, clean and determined to make a fresh start. The three members of the Children's Hearing panel have to decide what is best for the children. The panel - all trained volunteers - hear reports from experts and from the family, and face difficult choices as their perception of what should happen to the children is constantly challenged.
