The number of books in the Bible depends on which Bible is being referenced. Protestant and Catholic churches recognize 27 New Testament books. Protestants recognize 39 books of the Jewish canon in the Old Testament. Roman Catholics hold 46 books of the Old Testament as canon, along with expanded versions of Esther and Daniel.  

This work explores the heavens and the earth through the eyes of Enoch. It chronicles the events as a group of holy angels called the Watchers fall from grace, desert their heavenly home and trade eternal life to taste the forbidden lust for earthly women. The official editions of the King James contained the books of the Apocrypha until 1796. Most printers did not clear inventories and change to the 66-book version we know today until the mid 1800's. The Septuagint (or "LXX" ) is the Greek version of the Old Testament. It is a translation of the Hebrew Old Testament and certain Apocryphal books, which was written in the late third century BC by the order of Ptolemy II Philadelphus, the king of Ptolemaic Egypt (283 BC to 246 BC). Alexander the Great had spread Greek influence and language throughout "the known world" and the Jews of the area were losing their Jewish roots and tongue. This Greek translation was created for use by the Alexandrian Jews who were fluent in Koine Greek, but were no longer fluent in Hebrew.

The book presents the Jewish leaders Judas, Jonathan, and Simon as devout people and has little sympathy for people who favor Hellenization, but nowhere does the text mentions divine intervention. Chapter one to two: The Hellenization of Judah and the non-violent resistance by Mattathias is covered; Chapter three to nine: Tells of the Military actions by Judas the Maccabaean ("battle hammer:): after 166 where the temple is purified.

The Late Mattia Pascal is a 1904 novel by Luigi Pirandello. It is one of his best-known works. The narrator-protagonist is a young Italian man who, after his father’s death, sees his family ruined by a mean swindler, the man who was supposed to help them. Mattia finds himself in a miserable social condition. He feels that his promising youth has vanished into a dreary dead-end job and a unhappy marriage: His wife doesn’t love him; his mother-in-law, with whom he lives, hates him. So Mattia leaves to Monte Carlo, where he wins a lot of money in a casino.

The author must have been a cultivated Jew living in Judah, and can be dated to c.100 B.C.E.  

The relationship between Judaism and Christianity has been acrimonious throughout most of history. Often confronted with persecution, with arguments of Divine rejection, and with religious practices and beliefs that appeared pagan and even idolatrous to them, most rabbis viewed Christianity negatively. However, quite surprisingly, not all rabbis viewed Christianity in this light.

This portion of the Septuagint contains the books of Osee, Joel, Amos, Obdias, Jonas, Michaeas, Naum, Ambacum, Sophonias, Aggaeus, Zacharias, and Malachias. As the known world became Hellenized, the Jews began to lose their ability to read and write Hebrew. Jewish leaders were alarmed that soon no one would be able to read and teach the Torah. Owing to this, a Greek version was commissioned. The earliest writer who gives an account of the Septuagint version is Aristobulus, a Jew who lived in the second century BC.

He tells them they are like an unfaithful wife, rebellious children, and their infidelity and rebelliousness made God’s judgment inevitable.
